Finished work for the christmas Holidays so now my thoughts turn to christmas day with the family. For me, I'll be round the mother in-laws in chigwell Christmas Day, and consequently, will have to spend all day with a Belcher chain and Lacoste v neck jumper wearing brother in law, whose the biggest Lairy West ham c unt from woodford, i've ever had the misfortune to have met..and the competition has been fierce in this department.

Mum-in-law flying in tomorrow.
As her and my missues don't really celebrate Christmas on December 25th, it's January 7th for them, it's always a bit surreal. They love Christmas and the tree and the decorations and the pressies... all of it, but it would be like us having it on December 12th.
Of course, my 4 year old is totally immersed in it so it will be a great day for him. As always, I do the dinner as our traditional Turkey dinner isn't the same for them.
I don't mind, they can entertain the kids while I'm in the kitchen with a bottle of wine.

Looking forward to it. It's an up north year rather than a back to south London one so that means no major driving.
On the plus side, my mum in law is hosting and keeping it to just me, the wife, the brother in law. So that's just four of us. usually the wife's extended family are there but they're a struggle given that the kids are dull as pisswater and the cousin's wife is a dick. |  |

I will be going into the lion's den, so to speak, by taking my parents out for lunch. It could be tricky because they don't like Mrs R from Afar much, well, actually, they're not too keen on me either. They expect everyone to live and think exactly like them and when that turns out not to be the case, they wear a glazed "Does not compute" look on their faces.
I so want my parents to be happy but it is not easy because they're stuck with a 1950s mindset and the world is passing them by, resulting in ongoing, crushing disappointment. The Mrs and I are getting adept at steering clear of topics which get their hackles up, though, and can change the subject faster than a Chelsea fan can get his hand above his head, so there is hope and if I can keep my dad on gardening and football and my mum on the royal family, jolly memories of long-dead relatives and irregular French verbs, there is a chance that "a scene" will be avoided and we will be able to share a few pleasant moments.
It's so much easier with the in-laws, but then alcohol greases the wheels when we're with them. Even my "got to have the appropriate tipple with each course of the meal" father in law raised his eyebrows when he saw the glass of Cointreau his wife poured herself last Christmas. A small child could've drowned in it.

It left me thinking that the place is nuts , one woman (quite tasty btw ) who works in the accounts dept has been having an affair with the head of IT , well her husband found out and offered him out in the car park only 4 weeks ago , he ended up keying his company car
I’m taking a risk with this new job as it’s an hours drive away ( this job was on my door step and a piece of p1ss ) and it’s more responsibility but the money is really good
Like I say I’m on gardening leave which I’m loving I just have to make the most of it |

Plans all changed this year and it’s all round me Mum and Dads gaff.
Bit gutted as means will be leaving the pair of hounds guarding Block Towers as they are madness with food and booze about. Have permission to collect them and allow them to join the festivities at about 6:00pm
I’ll be into the second bottle of Malbec by 5:00pm though so dogs could be walking me back.

Christmas Day I will be working as usual. Christmas Day is not a holiday here. But I get 6 days off around New year which is the big big holiday here.

I'm out tonight with footy mates at a hotel Xmas do on milfwatch!
Xmas day with friends who have adopted me since split from ex; they are inappropriate and great fun. Only 4 minutes away too. Love my parents to bits but they live 60 miles away, don't drink, have my aunt & uncle too who are also dry and my brother has moved back in following a split. Will see them boxing day when picking dad up for footy and it's a bit quieter.

2018 not a good year for marriages. 3 couples who are close friends have split plus 2 fellas i work with are going through messy divorces.
Two of my best mates(husband and wife) have 4 kids under the age of 10. I'm heartbroken for them but i guess some marriages just don't work out.

My family is all in Scotland but my wife has rellies in London, Berks & Wiltshire who we see a lot. We take in turns to host family gatherings and this year it's all round to ours. 12 on Christmas day, 16 on boxing day. They're a good crowd and they muck in so I'm looking forward to it
Prepping all day today & tomorrow. And I'm already hungover.
Like Bluce there's a plan in place for a 4k run round the local park on Boxing day for all the keen people. I've done my back in so might resort to cycling.
