Can someone please show us a third way beyond flipping Vince. Failing a Chuka et al third way then Disco, you're the man no to save us from jezwecan, Diane, Sneery Emily and McDonnell no?

"I take it you accept that I did provide Facts"

No you posted headlines and dressed them up to infer that due to Brexit we`re all going to spiral out of control.

We`re not

'You didn't know that was wrong, but now you do. If you do it again, I'll know you are doing it on purpose.'

So on that basis, if you hire someone to build you a house and they get you a caravan, cos they think you don't know what you want that's fine LOL

You justifying her is unbelievable, well maybe not in your case, don't ever hire anyone, they will take you to the cleaners LOL

I think you are just trolling now
[Post edited 6 Mar 2019 16:23]

I assure you I’m not.

If I hire someone to build me a house I’m giving them a specific job to do.

If I was the only person in my constituency I’m voting for them to act in my interests even if I’m dumb enough to not see that. That’s quite a different thing to hiring a person to do a job.

An MP in a poor area where a slight majority wanted to Leave three years is doing their job by trying to stop a mad no deal. If they’re doing so to the detriment of their own future career, then that’s to be applauded. It’s those who are lying to themselves to stay in a job who should be being called out.

Surely the fact we did not join the Euro or Schenngen shows that we were clearly not “obedient members “
We are quite likely to have a very right wing Tory government in place when they divest themselves of Mrs May. Goodbye to workers' rights and consumers' rights. God help us.

We were obedient members in most things remember Blair was all in favour of the Euro. However we still had politicians who were not blinded by the glow from Brussels. If Gorden Brown had not been so strong we would have joined. Then if Brussels said jump we had MPs who at least asked why now our MPs just ask how high.

Nice to see you stick up for Gordon Brown, John. An underrated man. His legislation to give disabled people a better deal was wonderful. Plaudits for Amber Rudd who has secured payments for elderly disabled people. If the Tories had any sense they would see her as a possible future PM.
She has appeal across the political spectrum.

So let me get this right. We live in a democratic country and we hold two elections - one a general election in which the result gives us an elected government to run our country - much like a board of directors run a company.

We then also have a referendum to give the people of our country a simple choice - do they wish to stay in the EU or leave to EU. The result albeit close was to leave the EU.

Then during the process it becomes clear that the people we elected to deliver our exit from the EU decide they know better than us and try anything and everything to stop the process. The EU is an organisation that once joined can never be left and they will do anything to ensure a country like ours never leaves.

This for me was, and still is, nothing whatsoever to do with immigration it is about getting all the things that our grandparents and parents fought and in many cases gave their lives for to ensure our country was free to make its own decisions. Not have them made for us by people in other countries.

So we have another vote and the result remains the same - it does not solve anything. All the problems of leaving the EU are still there all that has happened is we are stuck in the EU, still paying our money and the whole process starts all over again.

I don't think it's that our elected MPs are trying to obstruct the leaving process out of bloody-mindedness. It's just that the more thoughtful ones realise that the leaving process is made legally impossible by the 1998 Good Friday Agreement - unless the UK stays inside a customs union. If you're not allergic to reading The Guardian, the position is explained very well here:

If what you say is true then the referendum was a fraud as the option to leave was never a possibility as staying in the custom union is de facto staying in the EU. It also leaves arrticle 50 redundant as far as the UK is concerned unlike the other 27 countries. Unlesss the UK government breaks the Good Friday Agreement or breaks up the UK itself then we cannot leave the EU. Of course the latter also requires the agreement of Eire or NI becoming independent.

Could we have the best of both worlds ? Stay in the customs union thereby preventing disruption to business and protecting the Good Friday Agreement, and being disconnected from the EU in all other matters. Many MPs mostly Tories are implacably against a customs union but something has to give or we are stuffed.

Yes, I'd say that's about it. The referendum was a fraud. Whether Cameron realised this or not is a moot point. He didn't have any legal background, and he assumed the Remain vote would win anyway, so probably didn't thoroughly investigate the likely hazards of Leave winning.

Anyway, do read the link. It's not written by a Guardian journalist - it's an opinion piece by an independent academic.

Andrew Graham (born 20 June 1942[1]) is a political economist, a Director of the Scott Trust, which owns The Guardian and The Observer.

The difficulty with this option is this is effectively the Norway option and would give the UK no political representation in the EU. Norway accept this since they're rich in oil and other resources, including new copper finds. Whether the UK, not having the same resource base, would be willing to accept that proposition is moot.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

I respect all the remainers fears about Brexit, I agree with you.
But all my life I have been screwed over my local government. Even more by the national government. I am petrified what a proper European government will do.

Surely this is fine though, we don't want political representation in the EU, that's why people want to leave?

I look at it the other way round. Imagine what the Tories would do if given total autonomy.

I knew you would.
Once again I agree with you, I remember Thatcher it wasn't good. This is far worse and we are going on a downward projection.
Maybe we should get a world government, to protect us from the tories and eu. Then when we find aliens, they can help us against the tories, eu and the rest of the World.

People want to leave not only because they do not want political representation in the EU but also they do not want political interference from the EU. Staying in the custom union means we have to obey EU laws without being able to influence them, a worse position than actually staying in. Being in the custom union without being in the EU also means we would have no control whatsoever in how we traded with the rest of the world .

Gordon Brown was well and truly shafted by Blair - he should now be visiting him in prison. Once all this brexit stuff has settled down Amber Rudd will be gone and frankly she only has herself to blame. Who knows next you will be saying that John McDonnell will make an excellent Chancellor.
