Yes it is shocking but sadly a sign of the times nowadays and almost, almost not news anymore, whereas what apparently is news nowadays is about 15 miles down the road Man City are preparing a bid for some Portuguese bloke whom Iv'e never heard of called Cancelo, the bid is in the region of £52.9m and there you have it, them that have wealth thrust upon them and them that go to work everyday in the vain hope that they'll hopefully get paid at the end of the Month.
Can't imagine that those other near neighbors of Man City, Bolton Wanderers have paid their players/staff/or any other poor bastard/bastards who worked for the club.
Never mind It's all done in the name of equality and fairness in sport.

I thought players were overpaid in the 70s let alone the stratospheric amounts they “earn” now.
Were it not for the Rangers I would have no interest in football at all. I keep attending out of solidarity and a fond nod to the past.

What's wrong with that?

1) David de gay turns it down beacuse he wants to futher his career and get away from Ole's wheel?

2) United even offering him that after season he has just had?

admire him slightly if he has turned down 300k to get out of there when it's to take the money.

Problem is some caant will offer him the same, Caants all round.

We're entering into a whole new era of contracts. Players will wind down their contracts and be available on frees. The buying club will offer them huge money in wages cause theres no signing fees.. Like ramsey has done. Its a worry for smaller clubs.

at the top end maybe. from the realistic teams in the championship down, i can see how wages might go down. It's unsustainable for most of us.

I wish Bury well. Always enjoyed my trips there, found them to be a friendly lot

I can see players at the top level requesting one year deals. This will enable them to move around all the top clubs in Europe during their peak and hoover up large amounts. Got fk all to do with “winning silverware”.

When you’re being paid (I refuse to use the term ‘earn’) £300k a week (£15million a year) it’s not as though you’re going to starve if you dont get another contract.

I renewed my season ticket, as usual, for next seasons barrel of laughs....... but, that's more about the company I keep than love for the club, the game and football in general.
It's rotten, eating itself from the inside out and I feel will change again in the next 5 years or so. That change may actually be great if as I suspect the super rich jaff off and form their European Super League.

Bury a great little club. Had a fantastic day out there donkeys ago.
Wish them well.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I have renewed my season ticket to the Blue and White bar. Best thing that happened in the last few years is that it's open all during the second half.

If The Pav showed Rangers games I need never renew again.

Bury - great place and I don't think I saw us lose there(?).

Because that gap doesn’t just extend to wealth. It extends to the primary source of that wealth: interest.[...] “Nothing in the demographics of match-going fans, the changes in technology, the changes in the way young people ‘support’ suggests to me this is sustainable,” one source says. “It is not outlandish to worry that 75 per cent of clubs in the bottom two divisions have zero long-term future in their current form.”

Bit of a strange comparison.

I don't think he's rejected the new contract out of greed. De Gea's been linked with a move for years and may end up earning less elsewhere.

But even if he is negotiating, surely he'd be daft not to push for the best wage / contract available if he wants to stay at Man Utd.

Or do you think that he should be obliged to accept the £300k per week because of other situations?

Struggling to see your point.

Hadn’t looked at his situation too closely, just assumed it was another Ashley Cole situation.

Wilder got a Northampton club in complete meltdown, with players unpaid, promoted from League 2 with 100 points.

Yeah to be fair I don't have any issue with the money that players are earning. Was thinking about it the other day and don't see why the players shouldn't be the ones pocketing the ridiculous money in football today- after all, they are the ones who generate the income and in the current system any 'profit' would go to an owner or executive like Woodward at United for example.

The issue is with the governance of the game, and like the Miguel Delaney Independent article states, 'the pull up' factor which is putting clubs like Bury and Bolton in difficulty and indeed, the ordinary people who work at these clubs. The dominance of the Big Six is deeply concerning for the future of the game, and the FA and Premier League have neither the will nor the desire to change a thing. As Lblock says, a Super League may just be our only hope

Following any club now is now pretty redundant if it’s not one of the ‘elite’ clubs.

That infinitesimal chance that maybe, mayf uckingbe, we could has been shat right down our throats. This is social engineering for football.

Sport and money can’t mix without one killing the other and money has absolutely wiped this game out. Even if we ever got back up, so what. See ya struggle to win 10 games if possible. Nah.

Wembley was our cherry and now we’ve been f ucked we just have to swallow it.

Only alcohol can save us now
