I found it almost unwatchable not so long ago but it's improved so much. I like most of the presenters now. Emily Maitlis, Kirsty Wark, Emma Barnett. Mark Urban was really great tonight I thought.

Actually Owen Jones was encouraging people on twitter to punch people he disagreed with in the past, so perhaps he got what was coming to him.

His own twitter funnily enough, this is the first one I found, but there were a lot more of him encouraging "violence against the extreme right" ie. anyone with a different opinion to him.

The only Newsnight stuff I watch is what pops up on their Youtube channel.

A lot of BBC reporters try and create a story by interrupting every sentence of whoever they happen to be interviewing when it would be more beneficial to at least listen to a few sentences of what their interviewee is saying before moving in for cross-examination.

I've quite enjoyed watching Gary Gibbon on Channel 4 Youtube trying to make sense of the Parliamentary shenanigans with a slightly bemused look on his face.

Oh, does the law say assault is ok in those circumstances?

And he didnt say people you dont agree with, he said the far right. Unless of course you think we should have tried to debate the nazis out of existence

No best thing to do is throw milkshakes on people or turn up at their houses and frighten their kids & families

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

You dont get to make a point until you apologise for lying about him being assaulted.

Lot of people here who bang on about "british values" until they want someone they disagree with beaten up

The hypocrisy on this God forsaken island stinks. Always good to know who turn a blind eye

Robith so we`re clear in our minds when you speak of the far right and nazis in todays context, you are talking about the Conservatives and those amongst us who dared to vote for Brexit ?

Do you know, I came on to edit most my post because I thought it pointless to create arguments and because I'm so exhausted from trying to tell people an alternative point of view exists.

But then you just savage me with this fresh hot content. Damn, I'd just look like I'd been murdered by this SAVAGE post!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mostly stopped replying to you because your political posts irritate the living hell out of me but I really respect your perspective about QPR. I should stick to it cos all it does is cause threads to derail .

being honest (this is not aimed at you PP), I dont feel massively safe on a platform where people would happily see me filled for disagreeing with me. My wife and I have had threats due to our advocacy too and seeing people on here go "lol good" about other people chills me

No, I'm talking about actual nazis. Theres a large number of them around these days. I am very confused as to what I posted that made you think that, unless you're being wilfully disingenious

Since someone mentioned Guido Fawkes I think we need to have a conversation about its corrsoive influence on the regular media.

Several ex Gudio staffers - Wickham at Buzzfeed, Waterson at the Guardian, Cole at the MoS - now work for more "regular" news services as well as Rob Burley from BBC News's desire to put Tom Harwood who still works there on the telly non stop.

So now what happens is Guido can conduct their barely legal bin scraping or launder gossip for people, and then the mainstream press amplifies it. Further Laura K's doxxing of the guy in the hospital yesterday was straight from the Guido playbook.

This is a website that is so toxic they've had to ban the use of the word "jew" in the comments section so rampant was anti-Semitic posting, now at the heart of modern news cycle. It absolutely stinks.

The only upside to it is thinking about Harry Cole having to write gushing articles about Boris, through the tears as he thinks about Boris rattling his fiancee

agree with this, Robith, the acceptance of Guido as anything but a vitrolic rag is just another terrible indicator on how rotten our media is and is increasingly becoming

and now because people right got cross with LK official BBC accounts are now retweeting the Spectator. the f*cking Spectator

I get this is all a snowballing Conservative and conservative aim to propagandise the BBC until it's reputation is worthless so they can wind it up/sell it off/etc but it's working for me

So people like Mervyn King the former Bank of England governor who thinks we should leave the EU without a deal:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/mar/29/uk-should-leave-eu-with-no-deal

Or is he a thick idiot as well now?

Mervyn King is a genuine expert and I have no problem with him being brought out to argue the economic merits of Brexit, No Deal or otherwise.

Larry Elliott at the Guardian is another pro-Brexit writer, from an interestingly left-wing POV, who knows his economics.

The problem isn't with those sort of people, it's when someone like Mark Carney (equally expert but with a different approach) makes a measured judgement and some tw*t like Mark Francois is allowed to get away with dismissing it with no detailed argument whatsoever and no credentials in the field himself.

The absolute peak of that is Nigel Bleeding Lawson not only being brought on to spout his nonsense on climate change but going unchallenged when he responds to some massive study with more or less the equivalent of saying "B*ll*cks, innit"

Ignorance is strength.

Cheers TacticalR.

I was starting to feel a bit depressed because a) i'm totally out of the loop and have no knowledge of guido whatever, and b) never good when debate looks like becoming abuse, when you made me feel really good about myself.

I am STRONG.

(And ignorant. So, so ignorant)

View point, exactly. Which to come back to the point of this latest godforsaken thread is why Newsnight shouldn't be allowing their staff to come on as journalists reporting facts. They're not, they're activists stating opinions. Same way you wouldn't put a documentary on the environment out paid for by BP.

I know nothing about whether Owen Jones was assaulted outside a pub in political attack or not. I don't condone violence of any sort.

But i do know for sure that i think he is a smug sneery self-promoting tw@t of the highest order.
