Jesus, what did they have for breakfast? 22:20 - Oct 28 with 10174 viewsRed_Ranger

Pressed us all the way and very effective on the counter.
I honestly dont think we'll see a better performance against us at LR this year.
Why them?
Dejected.

I felt from the off we weren't in the game, similar vibe to the Reading game. Brentford played a high line and contained us, and we ran out of ideas. We really missed Hugill, would have been an ideal game for him.

I can't help but feel we lack confidence and the belief other teams seem to have. It's as though we think our good form is fluke and it's a matter of time before we come unstuck.

Brentford were good but we were well in the game second half and looked the better side and more likely to score until the penalty.

Agree, but that was only a 10 minute spell. FFS.

Was starting to wonder in the second half yesterday if maybe our forwards' confidence to do their thing is being affected by how wide open and weak our defence is - felt like we were being overly cautious with the ball, but that's no surprise when every time they went forward our back four looked so vulnerable

First 10 mins of second half though, game could have gone either way at that stage, if we'd been given an equally soft penalty at that stage we'd have won the game imo

That ref was all shades of wrong for that penalty decision. Is this going to be another letter from the referees' association apologising for QPR-based myopia?

'Penalty you say...?'

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

The daft penalty was a momentum changer no doubt about it as it ended our best spell of the match. Whilst most of us would say it was never a penalty it should be noted that the pundit, Lee Hendrie, reckoned it was a penalty. This is why VAR isn't really helping games as it all comes down to one person's opinion on an incident when reviewing it.

The way Brentford players celebrated at full time was akin to a team that had just won promotion. It's as if the first thing they are taught when signing for the club is beating the R's is a must and means a great season. I feel there is a difference in attitude towards the game and I think it is because Brentford have been knocking around the lower leagues whilst we were at the top division that in that period they have never had a stab at playing the bigger London clubs like we had. Therefore QPR would be up for playing Arsenal, Spurs and co but having played them for years, the club as a whole doesn't get worked up playing fellow London Championship clubs. You could argue we got spoilt over the years playing London's biggest clubs

I bet if Brentford had a 10 year stint in the Premiership playing Chelsea they would forget about us and if we then got reacquainted playing the Bees in the Championship after they are relegated maybe we would treat the fixture with more desire and urgency, particularly if we have gone 20 years not playing the likes of Chelsea.

It does concern me that we have now lost 7 out of 10 to them. Anyone would think we were playing Liverpool with that kind of record. In truth it should have been 8 defeats but we got out of jail in the 2-2 draw in stoppage time. We do need to motivate ourselves a bit more for these fixtures and find a way to stop them playing and the first thing we need is a stronger midfield and defence.

Just my thoughts on why Brentford seem to come out on top but may be gibber...

In the sense that Brentford managers, whatever their nationality, keep saying it matters.
And Brentford players, whatever their nationality, seem to prove the fact.
The proof, after all, is in the eating of the pudding, as they say. 7 wins in 10 kinda indicates Brentford players have at least a rudimentary grasp of the concept of local pride.

Just because it matters so much to them, why should it matter so much to us?

Good for them if they see it as their cup final - over the course of time sometimes they'll beat us, sometimes we'll beat them.

"Whilst most of us would say it was never a penalty it should be noted that the pundit, Lee Hendrie, reckoned it was a penalty".
Good point but he was sneaky in the way he conveyed it. He was being asked if he thought it was a pen and as far as I recall, he came up with an evasive answer along the lines of it was because "The ref had a good view of it".

Whether the ref had a good view was irrelevant, I felt. Lee, did *you* think it was a pen?

In my view, while these derbys do matter, it's a long season and we shouldn't draw too many conclusions from two games against, in this example, Brentford. If we are rank against them but decent in most of the other 44 games, I would take that.

I think it's a bit harsh to have a go at a Rangers that has overachieved on the basis of a ref-affected defeat. We didn't implode, we weren't shocking. They were the better team and won with some serious assistance from the ref.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

On a general note I think there's something in your argument but on this occasion the prospect of going 2nd in the table should have been enough incentive for our players.

I noticed Warburton mention in a couple of interviews that he's told the players that they deserve to be where they are in the table and should push on. Clearly the manager is right to demand continual improvement but the reality is that whilst the team has made great strides this season it is not quite ready for a promotion push. Given the amount of churn, top 10 would represent a good season with a view to pushing on next.

One word.
Pride.
We shouldn't want to be beaten as often, as we are by them.
We are no longer in the same league as Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea......But we are in the same league as Brentford, and as such, our worsening record against them should be of concern to our club, our management, our players, and especially our fans. I cannot stress this enough, they have won 7 out of the last 10 games against us, we've won two. That is nothing to be proud of, except if you're Brentford, and we all should be demanding better from our club in respect of this fixture.
If Brentford can do it, then QPR sure as hell can.

Absolutely this. Does anyone seriously think we’re ready for a season in the Premier? Building steadily is the way to go and people were generally on board with this early in the season until we started so well.

I’d much rather win ten matches against northern teams and lose against Brentford than the reverse.

They’ve been adopting the strategy a while ago (overseen for some time by an M Warburton) that we’ve just started with. We have to be patient. Apart from anything else we’ve seen some sublime moments from this team. Notably last night that sublime flick over his shoulder from Ebs.

Exactly what I thought, going 2nd should have been the motivation, which made me questions the teams mindset and belief in themselves. The gaffer will always come out with positives but the players have to believe it. Brentford players had that confidence and belief last night.

Fine you're obviously obsessed about them, I couldn't care less. Every game we play is of equal importance to me, you don't get more points for beating a so-called local rival.

There's nothing "so-called" about us being local? Just look at a map and you'll see we are. Many fans of both sides live in the same areas, socialise and work together, and most of them enjoy having the bragging rights within their area. Many R's supporters do care, but it also hurts them as it highlights their fall from the top flight, so they try to pretend it doesn't.

When Benrahma scored his penalty, he rushed over to hug Peter Gilham our stadium announcer........ why? because Peter Gilham and many older supporters like him remember 1967, I don't, but I appreciate it is the big reason why our rivalry against QPR is more passionate than yours.

It DOES matter to me. That game was f cking horrible. We have absolutely no right to look down on our nose at ‘little’ Brentford. We need to wake up....this lot regularly turn up against us and we don’t. It’s unacceptable. Period. .....and MW absolutely has to get that defence sorted. It’s a shambles - we cannot keep conceding goals at the current rate.

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.
