Eze and expectations 23:10 - Feb 26 with 1813 viewsHunterhoop

The bloke is class. Most of us recognise this. Great. Enjoy him.

But the right thing for the club to do is sell him this summer.

He has 12 months left on his contract from June. We cannot let this golden goose go for free.

We’ll finish on 55-60 points probably. We’d need to make up 15-20 points next year to be in the hunt for promotion. And we’ll have no money to invest in the team to do that with (unless we sell someone for big bucks...).

Do you really want to gamble letting Eze go for free in 12 months, with our defence, for a shot at the play offs?!

£20m gives us £10m to invest in the playing squad and £10m to book and give us breathing room against FFP whilst all around us flounder!

Accept it; he has to be sold. The time has come. Do not ask/demand he stay or the club keep him. It is short sighted. Good luck to him. He’ll be wearing the 3 lions in 12 months.

And Chair will take on the mantle.

As intended by Les and out strategy of the last 4 years.

I should add, £20m absolute bare minimum of clubs can Fark Off. He will piss all over some of these current Prem attacking midfielders.

100% agree

Its a massive summer coming up and selling Eze has to be the priority so we can invest in the team

We need to try and keep BOS for another season at least though

Yes he has to go. More worried about Bright and Manning myself. If they don't sign a new contract, they'll have to go too and I am not sure we could recover from losing those three all at once.

Hope a top European team come in for Eze as I couldn't bear it if Palace sell Zaha and use the cash to get Eze in. If he plays regularly in the Prem, he'll be at the World Cup in two years time...

Can we go out yet?

Forever Rs whoever he plays for.

I'm sure he's got two years after this...
Going this summer obvs, and agree with everything said, but I think his contract is 2022, possibly via one of Hoos' favourite options.

Agree with the sentiment, but how was that £20m price tag calculated?

The price tag is probably where us fans will have to bring our expectations in to line.

Can someone remind me what Bowen went to West Ham for? 18 mil? I think we all know that Eze has way more growth potential but if the top goal scoring talent coming out of the Championship goes to a side like West Ham for 18 mil we have to be realistic when it comes to Eze. It will be tough.

Fair enough, enjoy him whilst we can.

Which is why, in hindsight, it's a bloody shame we didn't realise how good Eze and Bright were and got the extra player or two to have really had a crack at going up this year while we had them. We practically are the best team i've seen all season mistakes apart. Certainly not far off. It might be a while before we have such a depth of good attacking talent again and we've kind of wasted it. Albeit exceeding expectations, i just can't help but feel we could be so much higher up so easily (Smithies Nahki). And with an FA cup in the cabinet too.

I think a lot of credit has to go to MW for actually improving a few of our youngsters this season. When was the last time this happened?

Yes, this has basically been the case for every club in the world, bar three or four (even Liverpool and Man U have had to admit defeat and sell their best players to big Spanish clubs in recent history) for the last 30 years, and pretty much since most of us were born. It never was different and it's still not different. Unless you're Le Tiss at Southampton.

Bare bones.

Selling James Maddison when his Championship stats were not dissimilar to Eze's didn't work out too badly for Norwich.

Obviously I'd rather we could keep hold of everyone else - but didn't Norwich also sell the Murphy brothers that summer?

I'll cross that bridge when we reach it.

I expect this to go to 20 pages and the last dozen pages slagging Les and Hoos when someone suggests that we may get less than £10m and people demanding demos after games based on rumours. It's how our fan base behaves.

Really?. Well knock me down with a feather! Clubs sell their players.....?.. no way?

I dont remember many fans happy to sell any of them though.
Except on this occasion.
