92/93 Season Review 21:21 - Apr 1 with 4195 viewsslmrstid

Anyone watch this on the club website/Facebook page tonight?

Really enjoyed it.

Oh for football to be like then, felt so much more innocent, much better spread of teams across the league, everyone closer on points....

Oh and we were pretty decent too!

How dare you. They've ALWAYS had St James's Park packed out with loud, passionate Geordies.

Yep, quite right!

It's a good job that the ground only held 10,670 for Rangers visit in 1982, or some people might doubt the truth of this!

Hope they do 94/95 season

We beat Liverpool, Arsenal twice, Chelsea, Newcastle and Spurs that season

I found my scrap book in the garage last night of that season when I was 11

The Offy has the R's Story showing now. Fantastic to watch again.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Has anyone got footage of Penrice making it 2-0 on the break against Villa a couple of days before we beat Liverpool in October 94? One of my favourites for what it meant as we were on a terrible run but I can never find it.

Suffering since 1978.

Really enjoyed it, though that Dixon on Sinton non-penalty decision still makes me angry even now. Just about the worst refereeing decision you'll ever see.

The thing that stood out, and a quick fire highlights reel is never likely to be kind to defenders and goalkeepers because all you see them do is concede, but we dind't half let in some defensively shambolic goals that year. Stejskal, Roberts and Peacock all particularly culpable - this was the season peacock seemed to fall over at crucial moments a hell of a lot to me - Villa A, Spurs H, Wimbledon H.

All the interviews at the end were about how we should have been better than fifth, and we really should have. Battered Ipswich twice and took two points, annihilated Liverpool all night and lost in the last minute, the penalty against Arsenal, poor Stejskal error at Chelsea and at Man City, diabolical defending at home to Palace. I reckon there were a dozen points dropped through really basic stuff. Ten would have put us third and 12 would have put us second.

I just watched it and really enjoyed our attacking style and incredible goals. However we looked pretty shaky at the back and Peacock was directly responsible for at least 12 of those goals by my loose count.I know its a team game and only a highlight but you can clearly see his mistakes plus we gave up a few OGs as well. Not saying we would have won the league but a few places higher was a given.
The standard of refereeing as mentioned here was pretty bad and yes we did benefit from a few decisions as well but some of those tackles against us were brutal and would be long bans today .

A lot of people were upset when we sold Peacock to Newcastle. I couldn't believe our luck. According to Wiki we got £2.7 million for him! Never rated him, he was so error-prone.

That was a great game

I think Hodge made his debut and Dichio scored his first goal

He was good until Alan Hansen said he could easily play for England on motd after one of our numerous victories earlier in the season.

My hazy recollection is he was really good at first, and absolutely brilliant 93/94 season when he was easily on course for POTY until he was sold, but 92/93 he just developed this habit of losing his bloody footing all the time.

Ya, I agree with that.

A very good centre-back with really bad studs!

He was developing very nicely when we sold him and was still only learning as he was inexperienced when he joined us.

He came from Hereford didn't he back when we used to sign young promising players to develop into decent players to improve the squad/sell on...

How do you think this seasons squad would have got in the PL in 1992/93?

Seems mad now but we did under achieve that season, going into January we had a real chance to challenge for the title. Man Utd and Villa were both hit and miss, we had United at home early January and Wilkins got inured the week before and I think Ferdinand missed that game injured as well, we lost 3-1 and our form dipped over the next 2 months. Clive WIlson ended up covering in midfield.

If we had spent at that time on a replacement for Wilkins and cover for Ferdinand we'd have gone close to winning it.

Yes, Wilkins was the biggest miss I think, he really did make our midfield tick back then. As I posted earlier in the thread we only won four times in the three months he was out. Up till he got injured we had won nine games and the last six games of the season he returned for (the 4-3 Forest game on Easter Saturday was the first), we won four and drew two.

Poll: Which is the worst QPR team?
