Might be b0llocks but wouldn’t be massively surprised either way as he’s clearly enjoying being back at the club.

Some pretty persuasive arguments why that isn't true below though, sadly!

Just to add another one, not sure he can be a coach at this level without taking one or two coaching courses/tests/badges

I take no notice of anything until it's on Barnsley's official website.

I don't think you can sign a pre contract with a domestic club. Austin will wait and see what the summer brings. West Brom likely to be in this division next year so may want to keep him

England might be different rules but players are signing pre contract agreements in Scotland and have done for a few years.
Interestingly a player, Richard Brittain, signed one leaving Ross County to St Johnstone but for personal reasons (his wife was ill or something similar) he pulled out of the move and it was challenged by him that these were only 'verbal' contracts and not actually binding since the player was already in a contract.
Due to the reasons given St Johnstone didn't pursue the situation but it did throw shade over the legal situation with these contracts which I don't think has ever been resolved in a court situation.
This January Eammon Brophy left Kilmarnock for St Mirren as he'd signed a pre contract so Killie accepted a nominal fee for him to move it through earlier and Scott Wright left Aberdeen for Rangers in a similar move but Aberdeen signed a Rangers loanee permanently as compensation

Edit.
2 years gives Charlie plenty time to get on the coaching ladder, if he was fast tracked and motivated I would be surprised if he couldn't get his UEFA B Licence completed in that time and then keep moving from there, if there's any truth in the story then they've possibly seen him taking a coaching type lead in training and feel he's already worth investing in that.
I'm doing coaching courses and do feel it's supplying already motivated people with more information to be better, going on the courses won't necessarily make you a coach but it will improve someone who is able to be a coach, if that makes sense?

While you're there, ask them if he's mates with Joey Barton.

Whilst it is only a twitter rumour for twits, it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

However he is still only 31, and currently looks fitter than I've seen him for a few years, he's not carrying any timber at the moment, so I would doubt he's looking to hang up his boots in 2 years at the age of 33, that would seem a couple of years short for a player of his quality.

Mind you if this did have legs, and Johannsen also signs permy as reported as a possibility on WLS, then with Field as well, we're not far off promotion candidates next season.

I agree. Johansen, Austin, WLS and Field all on perms with Albert extending I would say we would have certainly a top 10 squad next season with the likes of Willock pushing on, hopefully Dykes, Bonne and Kelman etc pushing on and hopefully Amos and Carroll back. I still personally think Cameron has another year in him in the current position he plays in and if they bring WLS in then Cameron would still be great cover.

Never knowingly right.

End of contract transfers between English clubs can only be signed 1 month before the end of the contract and after the player has given written notice to his current club that he will not be renewing.

One of those rumours were, even if it's bollocks, it was a good effort.

Alright ... alright ... probably bollox, but wouldn't it be great to have Charlie back for good? I think I'll just believe it for a while in spite of reality.

If I was good at reality, I probably would support QPR, would I, know what I mean?!?!

Don’t think he’ll come back for “good”, after all he has to retire at some point!
