Well I hope he picks himself up because they've given him a game Saturday and another on Tuesday - because that's how accountability looks at the EFL.

Yep, not surprising Norf.....its his part-time job Norf. Bit like a penalty taker who misses, doesn't mean he wont take the next one the team he plays for is awarded one.

That's fair but maybe just be careful about looking for supplementary evidence from other people for their own guesses and bits of conjecture. That's all most of us are doing.

Can't really think of any major undebatable fck ups between last night and Clint Hill's non goal v Bolton or have I missed anything?

Two massive hiccups a decade is a decent return and certainly not worth the sterile mood killer that is VAR.

I am a football purist and conservative. I'd still have string instead of a crossbar and fatty foulkes in goal, even if he is Chelsea.

I just like a bit of justification or reasoning Brook, trust me, he will be slaughtered by his basic error.....he is human and he will suffer mentally if he is any sort of man, no evidence but I just look at what I would feel like.

I would like to think the observer will not adopt the company line but I won’t hold my breath. It would be interesting to see the referees report on the game. They have already let Stroud off from a basic error in the laws of the game so I doubt they would want to go through that again. Worse that can happen is that both officials carry on till the end of the season so this game is forgotten and then quietly retired.

An officials error cannot be equated to players error and should be punished more severely. Every players error that causes his team to lose becomes a punishment in itself added to that most probably a financial punishment as well.

Not defending the decision in anyway at all - it was dreadful.

But, reading this and the rest of the spite aimed at the officials last night, is it any wonder why the FA are so short of referee's and lino's? Who on earth would want a job where a mistake (however poor) leads to the kind of vilification.

I have only ever run the line for my son's football team. He played a pretty reasonable standard for a junior (Surrey Premier league champions at U16). It was difficult enough at that level, so I an only imagine just how difficult it must be at a professional level

It's a bit like being a politician. You end up with average dross because the pay isn't worth anyone better for the responsibility you take.

There's plenty of money sloshing about in the upper echelons of football and it wouldn't need a vast chunk of it to incentivise better quality people to do the job.

For all that the key decisions last night were poor - or rather, wrong - you make a very good point.

I ran the line once - once - during my previous company's interdepartmental lunchtime five a side tournament.

It was a chastening experience and I vowed never to do so again, and that's in spite of being begged to do so by one of my best friends at the company, the gym instructor who was running the tournament. Much as I wanted to help him out, I really couldn't face the constant moaning, criticism and pressure, not just from the players but also from the dozen or so fans, many of whom weren't into football at all and who had just turned up because it was a different way of whiling away their lunch break.

Ugly scenes...

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Again I return to this idea of it was simply a mistake. In a fast moving game with a split second to see an incident mistakes do happen and I think while maybe not at the time, being caught up in the emotion, we come to accept it. This was a slow build up to the disallowed goal and the AR had plenty of time to follow the action. Surely the only explanation was he did not follow the game up to the point Austin put the ball in the net so just based his decision on Austin’s position at the time. Not a mistake but a complete failure to carry out the responsibilities of his job.

A mistake is one thing but if he was dozing as it were - and from the video QPR put up on Twitter this looks like lack of attention - and that's incompetence.

It's time Stroud was out out to pasture anyway he's always been pretty hopeless to be kind.

Supposing it was Keith Stroud's turn to be in Stockley Park?

It’s ok, I live near there and know where the plug is.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?
