It was a great season but for me it did and does feel hollow.
I was raised with a notion of QPR being a club which did things the 'right' way and effectively buying success is not something I am comfortable with. We had also become a 'boutique' club by 2010 with a new badge and ticket prices which ensured many loyal fans were excluded from attending matches.
I can understand why after 15 years since we had last played in the Premier League many were just happy to get back there, but I'll enjoy it more if it happens under Warburton as we have done it the 'QPR way'. [Post edited 25 Nov 2021 9:53]

I don't get the dismantling of Warnocks achievements here.
The stars aligned that season. Warnock was in a good place off the back of his time at Palace. He had a core of good players here when he joined that previous managers couldn't get a tune out of apart from Magilton perhaps.
Yes he had some good money to spend but it wasn't Premier league money. Briatore,Eccleston were hardly throwing money around. Warnock had his challenges too.
For me it was a brilliant season . We tore this league a new one. |  |

Agree with this, if we do make it to the Prem with Warburton then we need to learn the lesson of last 2 failed promotions. We need to find the right balance between using money wisely, spending to grow and not throwing money and hope it sticks. Still we are in a great position with a very good manager and we are progressing on and off the field and look like a club going places again. |  | | |

We spent the most money on wages and 180% of our turnover went on salaries.
I don't think it's ridiculous to say we were financially doped that season.
It's also not a 'dismantling' of Warnock's legacy either but an acknowledgment of the facts behind that success.
Also, it's being honest to admit that if a time traveler had come and told us in 1992/93, for example, what kind of club we would be in 2010/11 many of us wouldn't have been looking forward to it. |  | | |

I think you'll find that Adel Taarabt tore this league a new one with a very able and competent support cast. The fact that it was only our own fans who didn't think he was the best player in the league that year speaks volumes about some of those fans. |  |

The facts make it obvious we were well backed that year, but Warnock still had to deliver which plenty of managers at plenty of clubs have failed to do (it would be interesting to look at that table of wages, and compare it to the final league table. Sheffield United very high up on the wages paid list, and they got relegated that year!)
So on that basis you still have to give Warnock full credit for what he and the players did that season. They were all magnificent.
Mind you I made this argument in regards to Steven Gerrard and his achievements at Rangers recently and didn't have many takers for it...  |  | | |

Well yes of course we had the best player in the league that season. Like I said, the stars aligned. Warnock let him off the leash which was a bold thing to do. It worked because of the players he had around him. He was probably more Stan Bowles than Stan bowles himself that season. | |

AS good as Taarabt can be it was the management of him that season by Warnock that was true genuis, he was made captain but Derry (and Hill) were the true leaders, but giving Taarabt that sense of leadership and the chance to simply play what he saw in front of him was genius.
Paddy Kenny made many brilliant saves, for me he was deserving of his Player of the Year for what he also achieved.

Its up to the individual if they think it is tarnished or not to be honest.
There are valid reasons for thinking it was so based on the ethos of QPR we were brought up on being completely at odds with the way we achieved the success and the way the club was run at the time.
There are valid reasons for thinking it wasn't based on the thought that the football World had changed long before 2010/11 and it was too romantic and naive to think otherwise.
If you extracted maximum pleasure and happiness from what we achieved in 2010/11 then I have no problems with that. For me, it was so at odds with what I want QPR to be that it didn't and doesn't sit comfortably with me. I don't look back at that period with the same nostalgia many do but am not alone. | | | |

I would sugest that we have topped, or nearly topped, the wages table on all of our promotions in my lifetime.
I don't think you could have put together the squads of top division players that Jago & Venables did without paying top division wages.

Very good point, Terry.
Probably true of most promotions achieved, regardless of the club.
I get Shadow's point completely. Personally, I didn't feel at the time that 10/11 was tarnished, maybe because we were also very well managed and coached as well as well-funded. I thought the promotion was well deserved. The 13/14 promotion meant very little to me, on the other hand - grossly overfunded, poorly managed and poorly coached (after McClaren left) we stumbled over the line and it all felt wrong.
But I get that different seasons mean different things to different fans. |  |
