Gordon Jago Happy 90th Birthday 08:21 - Oct 22 with 2101 viewsDWQPR

And what a great manager he was. Laid the foundations for THAT team. Was the Rangers manager when I first saw QPR at the age of five and watching that team in the 72-73 season I thought that supporting QPR was a matter of winning every week, seeing lots of goals scored and a club in a very modern stadium. A team made up of a mixture of youth players, Clement, Gillard, Hazell, Francis, Leach and Busby and some fantastically astute signings, Parkes, Givens, Thomas and Stan and some great experience such as Venables, Mancini, Ferguson and eventually, McLintock.

Great days as a kid, scrambling up the perimeter wall of the paddock near the School End, hanging on for grim death and falling down every time we scored. Watching the shiny new Ellerslie Road stand develop and seeing the old Joe Coral scoreboard proclaim the score, fixed to the giant of a floodlight pylon on the corner of the Ellerslie Road and School End part of the ground. Happy, happy days.

Thank you for creating those wonderful childhood memories Gordon. Happy birthday!!!!!

Just before my time but should not be underestimated for his laying the foundations for the great side of 75/76.

Happy Birthday.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Yep, Dave Sexton may have been the manager that season but Gordon Jago was the one who built the team. As Chris Guy says in the article on the club website, spending the Rodney Marsh transfer money to bring in Stan Bowles, Don Givens and Dave Thomas must rank amongst the shrewdest transfer business of all time.

My favourite manager & his team still remain in first position in my eyes.
Happy birthday Gordon & an enormous thank you.

First game back after the World Cup, can we please repeat the 2-0 victory over Burnley in the promotion season!

Growing up he was a God here. Best manager we ever had. Strangely played the game like Mick does. Great coach.

Never knowingly right.

Just an idle thought - I wonder if Warburton will be talked of in similar terms in years to come if Beale can come close to emulating Sexton.

Gawd, I usually reflect on something like it was yesterday - but not "Gordon Jago's Blue and White Army". Feel about 100!
