I’m one of those with no road in front of my house. All very well having public charging ports but it takes me 10 minutes or so to fill up with petrol so how long to fully charge an electric car |
To get from say 10% to 80% charged, probably between 10-30 mins with rapid chargers being installed now. Lamppost chargers it’s an overnighter. |  | | |

I drive a diesel 65 plate Mazda 3 and the wife had a petrol 60 plate Astra. We've had them for 8 years and yes we would both like a change but given the price of getting a decent EV or Hybrid and selling our current cars we simply can't afford to change even though we want to.

That's not strictly correct, OP. At the moment, the UK plans to ban sales of NEW IC cars from 2030. You'll still be able to buy them used, so expect IC cars to be around for a while yet.
Moreover, the EU recently agreed to review it's date for banning sales of new IC cars because of the emergence of synthetic fuel. This fuel is carbon neutral and older cars can run on it. If it takes off (still a big if given that it's in testing and is expensive) then we could see a reversal in policy. |  | | |

Yep the electric can charge over night for about 5 quid , gets me about 250 miles fill the petrol car up 90 quid petrol and get 450 miles . . The electric car is better to drive quicker , more comfy more spac more reliable so far.
The petrol car is an Audi Q7 the electric a Tesla model Y both worth around. The same per month to lease . When the batteries get slightly better for range the Audi will be going and we will have to electric cars , nothing to do with environment for the leasing just for the cars themselves electric wins every time for me . |  |

As a home owner in Andalusia Spain, and witness to several forest fires over the years in this region, wildfires and started by humans. Either by Arson, wild campers, discarded glass or a in the case of the one we had last year an illegal bonfire. We always have hot summers and the forest / grass is always tinderbox dry at this time of year. I have never ever read a report of a forest or grassland instantaneously combust!

A couple of thoughts from a council estate in the IoM.
1) Where are council house residents going to charge electric vehicles? I can't see the council putting loads of power points in, and running leads across the pavement isn't really viable.
2) We've had an electric bus on trial here. With a relatively small power grid, they've said they couldn't turn the whole fleet electric because of the burden on the power infrastructure. Now imagine everyone trying to charge their cars....
Talking of infrastructure, the actual weight of these vehicles is also a concern.
3) Living on an island, the ferry is our lifeline. Two cargo ships full of cars have sunk due to electric cars combusting in the not too distant past..... | | | |

And that's the science of over 95% of scientists involved in climate science disciplines. There is no valid scientific argument that disproves the combined work of the global scientific community.
