However bad these players have been the past couple of years, least they’re not like this lot.

They wonder why everyone hates them.

I was mascot QPR v Chelsea in 1984 and the Chelsea kit man forgot to bring any balls for the warm up so QPR had to share theirs and there were not enough to go around for a kick about when we run out so never got a chance to score at the loft end. How times change eh!

Isn’t that their new £100million signing on a 20 year contract?

This is a real bugbear of mine generally, it's not just Chelsea.
Watch, when the cameras are in the tunnel before Premier League matches, how few of the players actually even acknowledge their mascot if they're given one. That kid is likely completely starstruck, very nervous about going out onto the pitch in front of a big crowd, would it kill you to just drop down to their level for 30 seconds and ask their name, ask what school they go to, if their parents are in the crowd, what they think the score will be, or something? It'll absolutely make their day.
Be a fcking human being about it, you're in a tremendously privileged position, that kid dreams of being you.
Alan McDonald was fcking great with me when I did it BTW.

John Terry walked the mascot out at Anfield on Wednesday, but he ran inside to change when he became envious of the mascot's full Chelsea kit.

Suffering since 1978.

Us against Bolton a good few years ago, the mascot is trys playfully to pass the ball with Dean Holdsworth who returns the pass by hoofing it as hard as he could right up the other side of the pitch and turns to his team mates to share a laugh about it. The kid is just left standing on his own with all the players backs turned to him.....it says a lot about the human that does that and what a way to treat the kid! Always knew Holdsworth was a prick but that cemented it.

I do agree but I think psychology in football is massive now. Getting into the right head space before a game, doing the pre-planned routine of how you envisage the 90 minutes will play out, going over game plans in your head, visualising all the good things you plan to do during the match, visualising the players you're picking up on corners, where you should be for various pre-planned tactical drills. Ideally you don't want to break away from that to check-in on others. You need to be selfish and focused, the best are. That all said, I'd definitely take 30 seconds to chat, but I'm old school.

Yer, all that mass of info in the poor overpaid player's head leaves no space for anything else. Our current players must be great with the mascots as they definitely don't think who they're supposed to pick up at corners

As a player, you can't wake up on a match day and straight away go into 'the zone' - you'd be burnt out mentally by the time kick off approached. I'm pretty sure it's around about the 'tunnel time' that the sports science people go on about the intense focus and visualisation period - switching themselves off from 'outside noise'.

I always think the best time for player interaction and having a kick-about with your heroes is during the warm up as the intense focus hasn't started, players are generally trying to stay much more relaxed and not getting themselves too worked up.

As I said, I'd still be chatting to them in the tunnel if I was a player but players are bred differently these days, both on and off the pitch which I agree, is the detriment of the experience for the mascots, and also for us, the fans, in terms of the rubbish we've been dished up on the pitch.

That's a bit weird. Shouldn't there be somebody looking after the mascots (apart from the players)?

Yes, at LR there's always somebody telling them where to go, when to line up for photos and to escort them off the pitch as well. I would have thought that is the least that's required. Makes me angry watching the poor kid get left there without a clue where to go and the only person who talks to him at all is a photographer.

My boy was with Gavon Peacock back in the day when being a mascot was free, he was brilliant.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Footballers are generally young these days and young people are generally c**ts now.

Also, UGH. Why did I click this video? It's like a perfect storm of C*NT.

Depends which young people you meet, but the ones I tend to come across are fairly inoffensive and barely drink or smoke either.

Unless of course they support Chelsea.

I think young people have always been cnts. Just as we get older we forget we were young once!

Chelsea fan or not, do feel for that kid. Looked so awkward and no one came to him except a photographer.
If I was that kids parents I'd be requiring a refund.

Old people haven't fcked the planet. Big business has and today's young people will keep buying the same shit, taking the same flights and having more kids anyway. And younger people adopted Bitcoin which really fcked things up.

People blame the old. Blame the rich.
