Whatever your views on gender/race/religion etc, this is absolutely terrifying that a private company can have this much power

If this is a serious issue there will be better torchbearers than Toby Young . FSU is not a serious organisation, its priorities only ever skew one way. If they can't invent one they'll latch onto what dividing topipc they can ala this board's mate Monsieur Barton. You simply don't have to get stuck playing devils advocate for dodgy organisations like that.

Well Iā€™m not going to pretend Iā€™m perfect or donā€™t make mistakes in judgement sometimes, or just plain miss things, but given message boards (in general and QPR in particular) are dead or dying and yet this one is thriving numbers and poster wise after me running it for 20 years tells me I get more right than wrong. I think a load of bans, post deletion and moderation and rules would damage the board without achieving what you think or hope it would.

You do a remarkable job of keeping LfW going. Not only the MB but all the other things you do. I broadly agree with you about not over moderating the MB etc. but of course, it all depends on where you draw the line of what is and is not acceptable.

As others have pointed out, I feel some get away with dog whistle posts designed to enflame arguments. You've understandably called for restraint when it comes to posting political opinions and I'll continue to do my best to bite my lip at some of the right wing comments made on here.

It really isnā€™t a lot of the time.

This forum is horrible at times, especially after a defeat or if you say something positive or against the grain (political or QPR related) and frankly, some of the people who think they arenā€™t part of the problem really are.

It can be subtle, like constantly getting on a posterā€™s case in a snarky way if they defend Ferdinand or Ainsworth for example, or it can be clear and obvious, like some of the rancid posts still in place on this forum which I wonā€™t draw attention to.

Youā€™ll no doubt say ā€˜ah! But look at all the political threads you start!ā€™ but I havenā€™t done that in ages. Iā€™m guilty of being baited into things but that is very different.

Just my view.

Mate, you was one of the main antagonist that started this left/right thing on here. You went out of your way to draw people out into that debate for your own political agenda. There's still a residue from that time.

Yes you don't do that sort of thing now. Fair play.

Its a fine line when it comes to debating the right and wrongs of QPR or life in general and things will always spill over into fisticuffs once it starts getting personal, but id rather see online keyboard brawls on here than the type of censorship i see on other social media platforms. We're all adults.
And its not that bad on here. Jim the Hip the obvious candidate for the Bazza of the year award though.
I dont see any other way around it. Too many rules just ruins things. Clive will just spend his time banning and deleting posts. Nobody wants that.
I think what happens, you get threads like this one where it gets salty, spills over a bit, then we all discuss we all need to chill. And we do. Until the next time.. ;)

The thread is about a female Newcastle fan being banned from going to Newcastle games because she tweeted about trans ideology. Nothing to do with Natwest, Coutts, or Farage. It's pure whataboutery.

Dame Alison leaked confidential information about Farage's banking. Why did she do that? Because Farage is seen as fair game for that kind of thing by this kind of person. Why is he seen as fair game? Because he holds views she finds intolerable. In an internal dossier, Coutts wrote that he "is at best seen as xenophobic and pandering to racists" and considered a "disingenuous grifter" - You use all the Guardian links you want to try and pretend it didn't happen mate, but we all watched it in real-time.

Didnā€™t the inquiry find that the commercial decision to close the accounts were valid! It was handled poorly I think on both sides beyond that, itā€™s an interesting situation though

It would be really helpful if you Baz and, for that matter, any other likeminded thinkers, stopped using this word ā€˜baitingā€™.

You seem to confuse it with the words ā€˜difference of opinionā€™.

People are entitled to have different views, youā€™re more than welcome to disagree with them. I donā€™t dislike you for it, good luck to you, call me out on them, thatā€™s all fine. All I would like is for you to accept with good grace as you do unto others.

Thereā€™s nothing wrong with this site, itā€™s a broad spectrum and its contributors are pretty sound collectively at calling it out when itā€™s gone too far. Just donā€™t take everything so personally.

Difference of opinion? Fine.

Maybe they did, if so it's a pretty lame point to make in the grand scheme of that situation, and beyond giving already sympathetic people an excuse to believe their utter bullshit, I don't see what difference it makes

See also: The ongoing covid inquiriy. Another complete waste of time and money, doing everything it can to avoid the answer it really doesn't want to hear.

(Thatā€™s not hate. Thatā€™s just reasonable human behaviour.

Yeah, that's kind of my point. Some things deserve to be hated.

Irishman who hates the English? Cool bro, lots of history there
Palestine Protestor who hates the IDF? Yeah man, resist the occupation
LGBTQ+ blokes at Pride shouting "Fck TERFS" - Fair enough, if that's what you wanna do

Legacy football fan complains about Sky Sports using Karen Carney as an SME on Premier League football? "It's not OK to say some of the things that people say on social media. It has to stop."

Why do we let them get away with it?

And then, they have the sheer temerity to complain about being "baited" - With all of this above going on. Unless you just hold your lip and tolerate whatever the latest absurdity is, you're baiting. It's properly unbelievable.

I'm not doing anything right now, so I thought, why not enter the fray (Frey?).

So here's my tuppence worth: what I find extremely ironic in the borderline hysterical reactions by some on here to Toby Young having the temerity to even exist, is that he is not alone in backing Linzi Smith, far from it. She is also backed in her stance and her right to free speech by a broad alliance of feminists and lesbians, because this is not only an issue about the terrifying creep of a kind of techno-totalitarianism, it is also very much about the vicious attack on women's rights that comes under the banner of "trans rights".

Those of you who believe you are of the 'progressive' left should, IMO, be equally up in arms about both of these issues, and have the intellectual and moral capacity not to make this yet another 'identity' issue - but rise above that - because otherwise, you're just buying into the divide and rule agenda that underlies this.

I think we should all be concerned about what is happening in regard to our basic human rights in the age of technologically enhanced totalitarianism.

Now Iā€™m intrigued!

ā€œtechnologically enhanced totalitarianismā€ Iā€™ll have to do some ā€˜researchā€™ on that

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68293359 - The BBC's Psychological warfare unit has kindly put this report together for us on the Premier league's anti-trolling unit and the vitally important work they do.

Buried in this piece is bit that clearly addresses this Newcastle fans case while not mentioning it specifically -

"The team has also examined fans' social media accounts over allegations of discriminatory comments, even when they are not targeted at players or other individuals.

It has led to criticism that the Premier League is practising censorship and intruding into fans' lives. But Cooper says that in general they are dealing with "really nasty abuse", some of which could be considered criminal.

"We are not removing people's general thoughts or comments on a particular player, on a match or on the league itself," he says. "We're dealing with stuff that's really horrible and shouldn't have any place online."

Sure I'm not the only one "weirdly" interested in "the trans issue" (Also commonly referred to as "parents" interested in "safeguarding children") breathing a sigh of relief that FINALLY something is being done about this utter absurdity.

Wonder if Newcastle will now quietly unban this woman?
