If we get Cat 1 status i presume we will be playing better teams , if so I can see a lot of really heavy defeats coming our way , unless the standard of players getting recruited improves.

On a tangential note, is his first name pronounced 'Ocean'?

It is now! Or 'Billy'. Oisín - Oh-sheen or Oisin - Oh-shin. [Post edited 13 Oct 9:00]

| Development team. on 10:13 - Oct 13 with 859 views | LazyFan | Cat 1 does not guarantee you get the next Eze. But it does help us stop Liverpool from taking Sterling or Fulham with Harvey Elliott on the cheap from us. Also, if little Trev, who everyone says is the next Messi, is on our radar, we can convince Mom and Dad (Sharon & Kevin) that we have the facilities and pathway to the first team. And even if he does not make it, clubs like Brizzle will take our players off us. So, they will become Champ players and so on. That's the draw: we develop players who actually get first-team chances. Scott is the latest one. You have to have it, or you will lose out. I said this ages ago, and the Bee on here just rattled off all their players who have come through as some sort of comeback as to why Brentford don't have it. Yet this season Brentford started with their Cat 1. Even Brentford have succumbed and now have a Cat 1 status. | |

| Development team. on 11:19 - Oct 13 with 753 views | TK1 | Good luck to Oisin. Interesting to read this line in the official welcome piece: "The youngster is now targeting more trophies in England with our 2024/25 Premier League Cup winners and reigning London Senior Cup champions." Because elsewhere on this thread a 1-5 home defeat is waved away by several as "results don't matter in boys football, it's all about development". Interesting then that the club is still going on about a "boys football" result from 18 months ago, that I watched celebrated with fireworks, and yet not one of those players is anywhere near the current first team, a few have left professional football altogether, none are playing above L1/SPL and those two had already turned out for the first team by then. We even binned the coach who achieved it. So in that very specific but significant case, the result definitely mattered more than development. | | | |

Indeed. I expected him to be off in the summer and I think there was some overseas interest in him. And nothing in what I've seen of him this season suggests he's improved.

I thought the recent podcast with Dave Mc, Kevin Gallen and Ben Jacobs was a great listen about this. All 3 of them made some excellent points. For me someone is making a lot of money out of academies, you spend a fortune to get the facilities for a cat 1 and then you loan players out to play at clubs with worse facilities so they can play mens football so to cover you sign loads more players to fill your academy teams. The whole thing feels a bit insane to me. Brentford had the right idea in scrapping it but they've now had to bite the bullet and sign up to it. I get the hype from the club about the dev squad and it's not terrible or anything but I'll wait and see if we get any results from it, very few players end up in our first team for a sustained period, the ones that do have usually signed from somewhere else. I've been hearing the same stuff from QPR for over a decade now about what we plan to do and this time next year things will be better, the faces change but we are always a year away from being able to judge anyone.

| Development team. on 20:27 - Oct 13 with 231 views | wortonr | I watched today’s game on the stream. Very odd. First half we were brilliant. Some lovely football and loads of goalmouth action at their end. Second half, we were totally outplayed for long periods. Still weirdly enjoyable though. | | | |
