Good Performances, But When Will We Pick Up Points? 17:26 - Nov 2 with 1486 viewsDylanP

OK, so by most counts we have played well for three games in a row, but only have 3 points in the bank. Its all very well playing well, but its points that count; so will we ever start picking up points?

I am going to go out on a limb and say that the points will start rolling very soon. OK, maybe not next week. Citeh may be too strong for us. But after that, we have a string of games that have the potential to offer some relief, on the points front. Here is my best guess for the next 7 games:

Citeh, H -- 0 points
Newcastle, A -- 1 point
Leicester, H -- 3 pnts
Swansea, A -- 0 pnt
Burnley, H -- 3 pts
Everton, A -- 0 pnts
WBA, H 3 pts

OK, so that is a pretty conservative estimate which would bring us 10 additional points, putting us on 17 points going to the Xmas season. It would raise the average to just a point a game (which would project to just under the magic 40 for the season). I'd guess that 17 points would take us out of the bottom three.

What do you think?

I think we'll get some good results at home, even against the bigger clubs. When our crowd are on their backs they really don't like it much.

The key is beating those around us and getting a few results away.

with harold remaining in charge and perhaps augmented by the arrival of crouchie and defoe in the january window, i for one can see a top eight finish.

moreover, i think we willwin all our remaining home games, and possibly an fa cup run to the cradle of football, wembley, to boot.

and let us not forget, we still have the ace up our sleeve, rio to return in just a few matches time.

i think we can all agree, its only a formality that bobby ''Z'will find his shooting boots and fire in 10-15 goals in all competitions and leave plenty of egg on the faces of[posters such as discodroid.

possibly.

No points but an improvement but how we could be worse I don't know.
Give Harry a ten year extension immediately. Before Real Madrid poach him. Give him the Blankety Blank Cheque Book and Pen.
Who needs points ?

please john, im being quite serious.

if those magical balls , cradled in that soft black velvet bag , so delicately poised in bert milichip and ted crokers hands fall kindly for us, i for one can see us getting a draw with canvey island and bringing them home to loftus road.

ahh!! the magic of the cup...isnt it..marvellous isnt it...huddled round your terrace tranny monday 12.30pm for the draw.the nation stops.draws breath.small boys standing to attention...marvellous.

from there who knows..a glamour tie away to grimsby...under harold and his all seeing eye for the future..anything is possible.

do they still run the simod cup ??

I agree with the 10 points but I see the away point coming from Everton, if they comtinue to play as that have been doing, rather than from Newcastle. However a point in any of the away games is not beyond the realms of possibility (as is dropping a couple in any of the home games).

Good question from DylanP (with a LOL reply from Discodroids. Still laughing.

DylanP is right, though. We're better, but not much in the way of points. What I want to know is why WE always have to agonize? The supporters aren't failing to deliver the goods.

Why shouldn't the players suffer as they're responsible? Pay them ONLY WHEN THEY WIN.

They can hardly say it's expecting too much, since they expect to be paid so much for losing. Instead of the supporters having to be optimistic, positive, have belief - leave that to the players. Let them be positive and optimistic when they're not getting paid.

And if they're anxious because they're not getting paid, let THEM work out how they'll change things for the better. Instead of Rs supporters having to argue about whether the squad or the manager or the Board know what they're doing.

Isn't that what they call an incentive? No harm in some of them having a few grey hairs from worry, instead of simply turning Harry's face a whiter shade of pale, not to mention what it does to ours. Players are all behind managers until the manager is a dead duck because of their performances, then they're nowhere to be found.

If they're not paid when they lose, that might constitute sufficient incentive to work on their game THEMSELVES. Not just expecting Harry to conjure up a system that will cover up their deficiencies and mistakes. They have no reason to be pessimistic, after all, because they all assure us they'll get it right. Fine, when they get it right, then they'll get paid.

It'll make a change for them to put their money where their mouth is, while we can afford to be philosophical. No wins in a particular month means millions in the bank to spend on IMPROVING THE SQUAD.

We might not ACTUALLY look forward to a losing run, but it would be a damn sight more fun than it is now.

we might even be ready for PFP if the authorities ever get serious about implementing it.

Most of them earn enough in one game to live on for an entire year. Our 4 wins a couple of years ago was more than enough for people who were bought to win, but virtually never did.

Of course, it will be argued that we won't get players who can win if we don't pay them whatever they want. But, to date, and despite spending of around a quarter of a billion on players - £80 million in two Premiership seasons, plus £120 million of losses charged to the Club by TF and around £60 million this year, plus parachute payment spending in the second tier - they still can't win.

If they win, they get their money. If they don't, they aren't worth it.

Without wanting to highlight the obvious games against Liverpool with their pool of talent and our poor form and away to a rampant Chelsea was hardly going to be games we were likely to get anything from considering our seasons form.

City game will be interesting now as we are looking more like a team & seem to have some sort of a plan. The games we are looking at I'd imagine as real point getters are Newcastle away despite their form and Leicester at home.

I get a feeling we're gonna get 7 points from 9 from these games.

We should start to pick up a few although it isn't going to be easy, particularly if we pick up more injuries than we have players recovering from them. If Mutch could get fit then that would help. With a slightly fitter squad I'd go for:

Citeh, H -- 1
Newcastle, A -- 1
Leicester, H -- 3 pnts
Swansea, A -- 1
Burnley, H -- 3
Everton, A -- 0
WBA, H 1

OK !! , so by most counts now that the final pieces of the jigsaw are at long last starting to fall into place thus resulting in clean sheets, multiple goals from all areas of the team and a side which is now transcending into the nirvana of two wins from 11 this season ..i predict the following...

Citeh, H -- 3
Newcastle, A -- 3
Leicester, H -- 3
Swansea, A -- 3
Burnley, H -- 3
Everton, A -- 3
WBA, H 3

+3 bonus /code of points for holistic aspects such as our intepretation of association football laws, choreography , injuries, ferocity ofour away support chanting......if , as suggested by someone on here that we only count english players goals in the EPL.. , how much we hate scum chelsea and for being jolly well unlucky when it comes to giving away own goals and brain dead penalties .thus giving us a points total of 24 pts from 7 games .

exciting times ahead , i think you'll all agree given that i have not even factored in bobbys goals to games ratio of something like 1 in every 364.

or indeed our merciless away form moving across the landscape like a brutish roman legion conquering every town we visit with legionare harold planting the iron eagle/aquila of intent into every vanquished away ground with 3 points often the result.

S.P.O.R.

Same Plucky Old Rangers.

the future under harold is so bright i just got's to wear shades.

what do ya think guys!! if we all pull together and really moan about the penalty a bit more .....or start yet another thread about how much we hate chelsea fans (that will show them) we might get another point from The EPL out of pity.

so thats 25 pts then.

Typical Newcastle have decided to have a revival just as QPR plan to go up there but carry on this form ourselves and there is every chance of getting a decent points haul from all these games.

Leicester really is the crunch game form me.

It's dangerous to think we will beat Leicester and Burnley because they are not as good as Chelsea/Liverpool. Problem could be that the players think this also and this is where the performance levels have to be high as any effort put into honourable defeats become a waste of time.

Cliche but every game does matters and we can definitely cause City problems and get something. Cannot write games off home or away and looking too far ahead is a risk. So long as the effort is high and our tactics now seem to be in place we have a chance. Delighted for Charlie getting the goals but we need some input from midfield in the goals column as otherwise we become too predictable.

Loved them Discodroids, especially on a Monday morning. Both are gems. I'll keep this vision to hand to brighten up the long winter evenings.

Citeh, H -- 3
Newcastle, A -- 3
Leicester, H -- 3
Swansea, A -- 3
Burnley, H -- 3
Everton, A -- 3
WBA, H 3

24 points from 7 indeed. Even optimism has a silver lining.

Nicking the miserable hat from SoG, it's worth remembering that we got a grand total of one point from Burnley and Leicester last season.

Agree with this. Spot on.
Build from the last performance, take it into the next game. Lots of encouraging signs that we'll give City a good game. Agree that our midfield needs to step up in the goals department.

Trying to predict how many points we will get from individual games is very difficult. 16 of us are doing a Lawro competition at work. Out of 160 possible predictions we only got 70 correct results (not correct scores). 32 correct came from Chelsea v QPR and Arsenal v Burnley.
a better guide is how many points over a 6 game period. That way you take out the highs and lows. We wont win all the home games we think we should. We will improve on the away record, possibly with an unpredictable win.
8-12 points from the next 6 games, including City, is possible.

I think that we are more likely to pick up points against Chelsea and City than quite a few other teams down the bottom, but it's still more likely than not that we will lose those games. We haven't had a surprise result in our favour yet, which is what worries me slightly, so it would be good to get one soon.

After Citeh, in which a point would be an excellent return, we have to treat every game in the next seven or eight as completely winnable. We should even be approaching City like we did Liverpool, and hope for a better outcome. We need 18-20-odd points by Christmas or we're playing catch up again.
