Did anyone used to go and watch the lads train there? During the school holidays in the early 90s a couple of us young teenagers used to go down the training ground (Barclays Banks Sport Ground then) most days (not on a Wednesday though - day off for the players) to watch the lads train. They used to pitch up between 9.30am -10am, be out on the training ground for 10.30am, then be done at 12.30pm. Ray Wilkins and Don Howe (and sometimes Macca and the Bard) were always the most welcoming - always chatting to us and regularly had us stood behind each goal collecting the balls for them, particularly on a Friday morning when it was set piece training. We used to love being stood on the Loft terrace on a Saturday afternoon waiting to see if any of the set pieces we saw on the Friday morning paid off with a goal on Saturday afternoon.

Done Howe, what a gentleman. And Super Ray. Ah, what great days they were.

Imagine doing stuff like that now at a top flight club's training ground - little to no chance I'd say

Part of the problem was fans going to training grounds and getting shirts signed “for their kid” then flogging them at vast prices on eBay.

I think Man Utd were quite accommodating with fans at their training ground but had to stop because so many people were going there to do just that.

Yes, remember going down there. Also watching South East Counties junior games there on a Saturday morning. A beautifully kept ground, great pitches - an absolutely huge area.
No sport played there for very many years now but the Groundsman has kept the entire ground in excellent condition. Although the social club house at the top has gone to ruin.
Now bottom end of the ground been sold off and will open in September (if construction restarts) as a new school - the Ada Lovelace CofE High School.

Went there about 15 years ago... maybe more and the ground (Barclays) had been sold for about 10 million pounds and had been bought by a Taiwanese family. As you say the clubhouse and pool was never worked on. Was after Qpr trained there.

I did go along quite often to the Gas board place in Twyford Avenue. One day I went there and the players had locked Wilkins in a little yellow parking attendants hut there. Went a few times with a football or birthday card and never had a issue with anyone signing anything.

What's Twyford Ave Sports ground used for now? Looking on google maps Wasps are using it. Potential stadium site for us?

Wasps amateur rugby ground now, taken my son to the minis in the past. Much too tight and residential for a stadium.

The grounds look about 10 times the size of our current plot. Almost as big as Ealing Common.

Local residents won't want us lot traipsing in and out 3 times a month.

Access from the north and East look like a big issue. Great location though.

Used to watch them train in Barnes Harrodian school.

Occasional providers of half decent House music.

In my late teens, following a night in the boozer, I revisited this ground, which held so many great memories from the past, and shagged a bird in the bogs at the bottom end of the ground

The access will be the problem. You can only get in from a narrow cul de sac off Twyford Avenue, which is itself very narrow or a gate in the fence on the East Side. If you bought the site, you’d have to buy and bulldoze a lot of the houses and probably the school to get at it. Shame, three tube lines within 10 minutes walk and all the pubs of Acton.
