Non-QPR - Baseball Postseason 17:29 - Oct 4 with 3170 viewsBrianMcCarthy

Starts tonight for me with the Sox taking on the Rays. Beer and hot dogs will be at the elbow. What do our posters in the think? Am I right to be afraid?

Postseason? Yes, I vaguely understand that term. I think the Mets were in that once...

Aw you poor man! The Mets? Tough station, that.

Here's the consolation, though. Was only thinking last week that every cool New Yorker in tv or film supports the Mets eg Seinfeld. Clearly a cooler choice than the Evil Empire in the Bronx.

Me, I got stuck with the Sox because of an Uncle who lives in Boston. Up until '04 they were the ideal team for a Rangers fan - entertaining and lovable but ultimately, literally cursed!

I really like the area around Fenway Park - something about it looks old school.

I actually used to listen to the Yankees on the Armed Forces Network - I remember one summer when there was a big scare over Perrier water - my mum bought loads of it a knock-down price and I spent late nights listening to the baseball while quaffing questionably safe yet delicious sparkling water :))

Then when I moved to NY in '99 the Mets had an exciting playoff series and I was hooked on their entertaining Jekyl and Hyde style. It's funny to think that in the 80s they were the big bullies - there's a great book about the Mets in that era - The Bad Guys Won.

To be honest I've had trouble following them the last couple of seasons though - they've coughed up SO many games and I spent too many nights rolling into bed at 1am after yet another 9th inning catastrophy.

Got hooked on baseball a couple of years ago when spending a lot of time in Bermuda and the us, Bermuda especially seemed to show every single game known to man, it was awesome.

With the sox being my first team watched they are my followed team, I'm coming out to boston early march next year, so hope to watch some games if they play (I have no idea on season dates but they did appear to play some games in feb this year, though it could have been some preseason stuff I guess)

Cubs and orioles, I enjoy the post season more than the regular season, there seems to be too many games, you can afford to lose several. It's a great day out too, similar to the laid back cricket atmosphere

Sorry, man, they'll be in pre-season in March and that will be down in Florida. You might catch some minor league games (reserves and youths, so not the most exciting).

I was in Bermuda once, visiting friends. You're not wrong about the blanket baseball coverage on the box!

I've followed the Mets since '88. Not closely mind but close enough. They've been pretty poor for a lot of that time. Late 90s culminating in Subway World Series in 2000 was good but ultimately disappointing. Started well last season but petered out, did terribly this season - although I have to admit I haven't paid much attention.

The evil empire for me.Ever since watching a game against Toronto at The old Yankee stadium in May 2001.Typical though, they lost without even scoring.
We also did the trip up the twin towers, and I hated every minute of it until I got on the roof and couldn't look down and see the ground.

Good man, Plumstead. I'd say two seasons from now we'll have a competitive team. Gone about 4 years backwards to go forward.

Stowmarket - yeah the top of those towers was really something. When I first came to this country I job coached someone who worked in the pizza restaurant just before the escalator to the roof. I used to sit up there every chance I got. Truly sad and pathetic that the new and ridiculously named 'Freedom Tower' is all glassed in. They can call it whatever they want but that to me is chickenshit.

It's not like there haven't been other sh*t threads on LFW, I mean naked dwarfs, posts about golf and American football, I could go on, but baseball? I mean ffs! Basically it's a inferior cousin of cricket that should have been left behind in the mists of time, and probably would have been - given cricket's vastly superior qualities - if it hadn't been for America's penchant for creating strangely unique games, easy to commercialise and sell to an undiscerning public.

Baseball is Irish in origin. It's called rounders in Ireland. So the sport is our fault and the thread is my fault.

Mets fan so the post season is quite enjoyable and unpressured for me. Like to see the A's get it this year, fantastic club and one we should base ourselves on.

Sogard instead of Barton would be a genius move!

Big night for the A's tonight. Looking forward to it. Would love for the Sox to face them. Agree with you - they're a brilliantly-run club.

Only been to one baseball game - At fenway, so support the Red Sox. I went in the mid 80s, Wade Boggs was their star player at the time.

I keep up with the results about once or twice a week, and am please the Soz are through to the ALDS. I think they hve a real chance of going all the way.

There are a couple of decent you tube vids on the 2004 series (when the Babe Ruth curse was finally broken) which are quite emotional...

Ya, that's a good documentary alright. The 2004 run and win was pure drama. I'll never forget it.

The one with Kevin Millar's home video? Great documentary!

I try and go to a different team each season, so far done Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington. Great way to see the country. Hopefully doing Chicago next season.

Baseball is better than cricket, which isn't hard. Glorified game of rounders though.

Now THIS is a pwopa sport.

the two I've watched are 4 days in October and Faith Rewarded... dont remember the Millar home video bit... but that Ortiz home run in Game 4 of the Yankees series (and Rivera's blown save) will certainly live long in the memory.

They say therecent America's cup was sports biggets turnaround, but that ALCS series also comes close!

With the Swallows finishing last this year, anyone who beats the evil Yomiuri Giants gets my support. It would be great to see the Carp win, as 1)they've got no money and 2) they've got the best name.
