30,000 feet
bomb bay doors open
target the populated areas
chocks away

It's not what you've got; it's where you stick it.

Get onto Fat Tyre Bike Hire - they do a Segway tour of the city starting at Alexanderplatz. Absolutely brilliant. Also, the Lowenbraukellar is cool for a traditional (tourist) stein. There is so much to see and do - you'll have a blast. I'm very jealous - Berlin is one of favourite places ever.

I thought the Checkpoint Charlie Museum was brilliant, well worth a couple of hours.

It's a fantastic place, loads to do and see.

There's a themed German resturant near check point Charlie excellent curried bratwurst washed down by a few local beers , your ring piece will always hate you though

Love Berlin, but my kind of stuff there probably isn't right for a 50th birthday.

Konnopke's Imbiss is the best currywurst in the city.

If there weather's good, Prater Garten is absolutely brilliant

Can't miss with the area around Boxhagener Platz in Friedrichshain. Tons of bars and restaurants of all types. Pro tip: you can walk around the city with an open beer! Have fun!

I was last there in 1969 when you could look into the Eastern part of the city, West Berlin itself was an eye opener way back then whereas East Berlin was an awful grey forbidden place to see, although West Berlin was in East Germany it really was where East meets West, two opposing pacts waiting to go to war.
An awful lot of East Germans were killed/shot dead on the Berlin wall over those cold war Years.
I really should go back, Berlin is steeped in history-enjoy yourself YR.

My eldest daughter has just today returned from a week in Berlin. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It sounds brilliant. I want to go now. In fact I've always wanted to go there.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

Treptower Park, the Soviet war memorial in East Berlin, is genuinely awesome and very strange. Imagine having a celebration of your defeat in your capital. Well worth a look.

Go to the Sony centre for atmosphere and restaurants right next to the Brandenburg, then the holocaust memorial and Reichstag, Sir Norman Foster designed the dome and it is the best vantage point to view Berlin. Mitte is a great place for restaurants and for great German food, a place called Marielschen just off Kufsendamn and for an excellent Italian (as 50 year olds normally want a bit of quality) Bocca di Bacco near the Brandenburg 0049 30 20672828, I can't recommend this enough. Check out the main train station, it is a work of art how four platform levels come into one central point. I know Berlin very well as been 20 times for exhibition so don't hesitate to personally email me. Whatever happens, you will love the place.

Bit like you Ted, I was there in 1984ish. A proper eye opener seeing the difference between east/west.
The wall very strange completely covered with graffiti including the imortal line 'England won the war'

I'm with Mona. They can keep the China wall etc, Berlin has been on the radar for too long. Must visit.

Great City you'll have a laugh!
I was mostly hanging around near checkpoint charlie on my last visit. The former east Berlin is great fun. Reichstag, Kollhoff Tower, get some currywurst. Beer is amazing and the guys in the street sell a great bratwurst.

The bloke is going for a 50th birthday and some are sending him to museums!

That being the case, then the Stasi Museum in E. Berlin is well worth the schlep. Ironically went to it on a cousin´s stag doo and I have visited twice more since.

Berlin is a cool city, but I have never managed to find any place decent to eat there, but hey, you`re on tour and eating is cheating! Plenty bars but do research.

Last time I was there, I was exiting a restaurant, and kept the door open for a woman coming into it. Yup, you guessed it.....Angela Merkel!

Sachsenhausen...

Even more painful because the Stasi continued to use the god forsaken place.

Berlin is the greatest European City. Enjoy, and book your party on one of the free walking tours before you go (although tips are expected).

I'm jealous

1st time I was there was 10yrs ago on a stag and all I remember about it were lots of quite aggressive brasses and one of the scousers getting a hand-shandy for 10 euro. Someone suggested we do something cultural like Checkpoint Charlie on the Sunday (having been on it until 5am) to kill a few hours and I told them I'd be checking out charlie alright but in an Irish bar watching whoever was playing the afternoon games.

That was a waste to be fair though and I've been lucky enough to go back a couple of times since for business and it's a fascinating city. All of the above mentioned above are worth a go and I'd personally recommend the Olympic Stadium tour as well; standing there by the flames looking at the 1936 medal winners (100m lauf - Owens - USA) gives you a real sense of history. Apparently, Hertha *fill* that ground as well every home game - all 90,000 seats - that's what sensible ticket pricing and true family inclusivity do for you (take note FA).

As for eating out, I'm a bit of a foodie (fat fúck) and there's always been plenty of variety from street food (think of currywurst like a doner kebab - best had after a beer, and you won't be far wrong) up to Michelin stuff. Don't know if it's still there but I had a great evening in La Buvette (perversely French). Rutz restaurant is great as well if you're pushing the boat out (although pricey).

50,000 average attendance last season. Not much success in their history and I believe East Berliners don't follow them. Someone on here used to talk about going to Union-Berlin.
