Got to say I'm surprised Dozzell came second in GOTS - great goal, but I couldn't bring myself to vote for him. I think Dunne's must have got about 95% of the vote, surely.
BUT, different award. What was the most *important* goal of the season? I think there's a few candidates:
1. Dykes v Stoke. 2-1 down, Stoke with 10 men, atmosphere flat. Out of nowhere Dykes chests and volleys in and brings us back from the brink.
2. Goblin boy og v Stoke. It's now 2-2 and the crowd is remiscent of the famous 3-2 v Liverpool. Larkeche, in his biggest contribution of the season, chases a ball down like a man possessed and forces the winner. Willock the cherry on top soon after, which signalled the start of his own renaissance.
3. Paal v Huddersfield. 1-0 down. A deeply depressing game and a horrible performance. Paal, I think at the time our top scorer, knees one in and rescues a point. Felt like not much at the time but a few said how important it might be. Looking at the table today, it was absolutely crucial.
4. Field v WBA. 2-1 down despite absolutely destroying WBA for the entire match. Penalty missed, shots cleared off the line by bodies and fists. Had we lost that, what effect might it have had? Playing really as well as we can (at least until last night) and still losing. But Fieldy forced a vital and richly deserved equaliser.
5. Dunne v Birmingham. Probably it's a double for Dunney. Not quite a must win game, certainly a mustn't lose, but this goal of the season was huge for more than one reason. Scary to look at the table without this goal.
6. Dykes v Preston. Our forwards hadn't scored for weeks. We'd picked the wrong time to lose a bit of form. We'd just lost 3-0. Someone had to step up, and Dykes did it, with an assist from Woodman. A big, big goal in a game we had to win.
I guess Dunne will win this, but how about your top 3?
obviously the leeds 4-0 game tops the list.....never see that coming
millwall at home 2-0....just complete satisfaction looking at their smug faces slowly disintergrate into anger...they were so sure they were gonna beat us that day... cardiff away..2-1..after the 4-0 defeat to watford the week before, i thought we might, just might have something there, how wrong was i.
anyone got any other favourites whether attended or watched on the box.
When trying to analyse the reasons we turned this season around, it is important not to underestimate the Jimmy Dunne effect. Of course appointing MC was the true catalyst, and it must have been his choice to transform our struggling, sluggish, error prone centre half into a joyously rampaging full back. But the way that Jimmy responded to that was incredible and invaluable. His spirit, his drive, his fearless, skilful runs and of course That Goal, have been transformational. Even on the bad days he never gave in, and he seemed to raise the spirits of fans and fellow players alike. Just seeing the big man giving everything was to believe that we could and would be better, and he might be my personal player of the year. Love that man.
Guessing there isn't going to be a huge hankering for these anymore, but if anyone wants to go and couldn't get hold of any tickets originally, PM me as got 2 adult tickets and not going now.
Were £37 each but happy to knock a few quid off for a good home. I would have to post them to you as physical tickets.

Is the court case impacting QPR fans opinion of him? Last night he was head and shoulders our best player, an opinion shared by the the Lids posters in their match thread and a lot of neutrals on the FB Championship page, yet there are several posters on here who can only see negatives in him whenever he plays. There were times yesterday when he was linking up with Willock and Paal that he was unplayable yet time after time I all I see on here is "he should have looked up and passed, " "Wasted a good opportunity" completely overlooking the amount of effort it takes to keep the tempo up for over 90 minutes. His onfield captaincy also seems to be overlooked too, not the shouting words of encouragement captaincy but the explaining runs, positions and transitions to the players around him. He even bawled out Dunne for not picking up Firpo in the first half as he could see that Firpo was making those runs that were assisting Summerville and Piroe in getting into good attacking positions (albeit they came to nothing). Maybe it's a QPR thing that fans only like defenders and attacking players are to be suffered rather than enjoyed. Go on the LUFC MOT match thread and see what they think of Chair, it was the same with the PNE fans after the last game.
After that rousing speech last night and the (bizarre / misunderstood / shameful) booing from the Leeds fans - the only noise they made all night - it inspired me to make a regular donation to someone actually working to make a real difference.
