I like him (and I wouldn't even really class him as a socialist to be honest - he appears to be more about redistribution of private ownership rather than public ownership).
Where abouts do you live snork? Did you say the South before or was that another poster?
I live not far from Athens,Georgia right in Bible Belt country,so yes I am living in the Deep South.
Americans weren't they viewed back in the day by some as traitors to the crown and terrorists ? Weren't they something like a combined 5 years late entering the World wars ?
They probably think that others are a strange bunch when some others seem to think they are a strange bunch, in my many visits to the States I would say that in general they don't seem to know much about the World in general which makes you wonder if they can be easily manipulated by powerful people.

Americans that have passports and that have left the 50 states don't fall for that crap as they have seen there is a world outside of the Republic. But your average insular American falls for the nationalistic bullshit the GOP and Fox News spews out. I'll give you an instance, the GOP and the NRA puts out the line that the people in the rest of the world are undefended against terrorism because we don't all have pistols strapped to our hips 24/7 as some Americans are apt to do out here as if this was Dodge City in the 1870's. This is from a country that has over 33,000 gun deaths a year compared to 127 gun death a year in Canada or 54 deaths in the UK. Yet if you say anything against guns you are called un-American or if you are a foreigner you are told 'if you don't like it, then go home! '

According to the report I just read there were 13286 gun deaths in the USA in 2015 and not 33000 as you said there is.

Ah - home of REM and also the Love Shack unless I'm mistaken :-)
Would love to visit the Deep South - one of the parts of the U.S. I have never been to.
In fact, one of my little dreams (one that I can almost guarantee I'll never do, but have always hankered after) is to walk the AP which of course starts (or ends, depending on your view point) in Georgia.

I've been to the areas where 'Deliverance' was filmed the wife was very worried when walking around trails in the mountains next to wild rivers in remote areas where everybody seemed related to everyone else.

I'm not belittling anyone but I was in a remote area of America on holidays when an American came up to me and asked me where the nearest 'restroom' was ? lol
I refrained from saying 'see that bush over there luv', I just said I don't think there is one out here.

I'll avoid the tap-in :-)
Do you walk Trampie? One of my promises to myself for the next few years is to do more proper walking now I have more time than I used to. I was looking at options for the Pennine Way this week to see if I may do a section of that this year.
Lisa. I know the pennines well. They take most of the rain we get from the east.
We could walk off into the sunset over holmfirth hand in hand squabbling over the swans.
Lol - I'll bear that in mind :-)
Looking at doing the section from Edale to Horton-in-Ribblesdale - takes about 8 days apparently (about 90 miles). Beautiful scenery, Bronte country, and for about 9 quid a night, you can get someone to pick up your bags and take it to the next pub - sounds ideal.
Some of the prices for staying in pubs are absolutely ridiculous though - I guess it's just supply and demand. Very tempting.

Yes Lisa, Athens is the home of REM and the B52's who sang the 'Love Shack' they do REM tours here going around the places seen on the photographs on the album covers and places mentioned in the lyric of songs. Where Deliverence was filmed was just outside a city called Helen which had a huge German community and all the buildings are styled after the buildings you would encounter in the villages of Bavaria and Austria. In fact if you go to Helen you would be convinced you were in some quant village in the German Alps or the Austrian Tyrol. The only thing that stops you are the American flags and the US cars driving around the skinny roads there.

Doesn't everybody walk ?

Don't be so smugly supercilious about something you clearly don't understand.
Whereas the theory of evolution can in some cases explain how some life forms have changed over time, it cannot explain how lifeforms came to be, let alone what "life" is, let alone how "life" came to be.
And neither can religion its always worth remembering that science doesn't care whether or not you believe in it.
I'm still waiting for official confirmation that WW3 started earlier this week when 100 tanks rolled across the Turkey / Syrian border. Still appears to be a piece of news only known by yourself while the rest of the world's media remains blissfully ignorant.
To repeat - NATO have said they will not support Turkey if it provokes Russia. Think about it sensibly for one minute at least - do you genuinely believe the U.S. has an appetite for entering a major conflict with Russia in support of a Moslem state, given current sentiment? I mean really think that is even slightly possible?
Trump is a complete moron and is just making waves.

Say what you like about Trump but he is right...there are some very powerful war-hawk politicians and decision makers making a lot of noise in America right now about going into Syria.
The truth is none of us know which way this thing will twist and turn.
NATO certainly has not come out officially and said it will not support Turkey...a few politicians and diplomats have but not NATO. They are obligated to protect them under article 5, if it can be demonstrated they were attacked first.
As you say logic would dictate they stay out of it should Turkey and Saudi Arabia go in first and let them fight it out with the Russians and the Syrian Army.
But the USA wants the same as Turkey/Saudi...Assad out and a new government put in...the only way that is going to happen is by invasion.
As we know from history, common sense is the first casualty of war and things can escalate quickly. We dont know what will happen over the next few weeks...
