Team for cup game at Hull
at 08:48 4 Jan 2017

I'd say this is the perfect time for a bunch of U23s to get some game time, seeing how excellent they've been in PL2. Sigurdsson at the very least should get a rest.

I doubt Hull will field a very strong team.

Anyone else got the feeling Ash has realised he doesn't really want to play this game?

The BIGGEST game of the season

Exactly.

Also, to be fair, Norwich has played well and deserved to get points against both Chelsea and Leicester. That after a draw against West Ham.

It's foolish to think that this should be an easy win.

Has qualification changed for Europa League
at 11:50 13 May 2015

When did it change? Do you have a source? From http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/features/european-competition-qualificat

"In the event The FA Cup winners also qualify for the UEFA Champions League, The FA Cup runner-up will qualify for the UEFA Europa League, but in the place reserved for the lowest ranking Barclays Premier League representative."

"If The FA Cup winners, runners-up (if applicable) and the Capital One Cup winners have already qualified for Europe, their place goes to the next best placed clubs in the Barclays Premier League."

Sounds to me that Aston Villa will get the Europa League spot no matter what and that you need to be 6th in the PL..

3rd highest? From the stats I've seen, we're 9th this season…

edit: Seems the post I replied to was edited as well..

I've enjoyed this season tremendously and think Monk looks a great manager in the making.

That said, one cannot argue that we play with less possession this season than previous ones. The stats:

2011/12: 57.7%
2012/13: 55.3%
2013/14: 57.1%
2014/15: 50.6%

That's a huge difference! This season, we've had more possession than the opposition only ten games. In 6 games, including the three latest, we had the majority by a clear margin. In the 11 others, we mostly weren't even close to 50%.

Is this a bad thing? Obviously not, judging from the results. We've got plenty of points and are well on our way to safety. Almost half of them are from the 11 games with least possession.

It does however indicate that we are moving away from what we've called "the swansea way" for quite some time. We're starting to somewhat "blend in" with the other teams style wise. How important has this uniqueness been when it comes to e.g. attracting players or promoting the club globally? I hope not much, though I feel I've read about new players mentioning our style of play as a factor more often than not.

Montero and Dyer on the two wings? Modou Barrow is a winger as well...

Perhaps a bit off the current topic, but you guys seem to be assuming that this is a striker. In Ostersund he's been playing winger (on both flanks, from what I saw in their last match).

Transfermarkt also lists him as a right midfielder/winger. When Routledge plays on the left, Dyer is basically our only option there.

Modou Barrow - Apparently signed 3 year deal?

This swedish article says £2m.

I have no idea how good this guy is, but that is a huge figure for a swedish second division player...

I don't see how anyone could feel that Bony needs defending after his team beat Manchester United on Old Trafford…

If the alternative was to not sign him at all, I'd say that it was a brilliant move.

As I responded to the statement "his goals alone kept us up", I hardly see why that matters.

Been hearing that his goals kept us up a lot, though it's not true. If you "delete" all the goals Bony scored or assisted throughout the season, we'd still not have been relegated. Those goals made a difference of 7 points (none against the bottom three) in the PL, and only 2 points before the last 4 matches. Nearly all his goals were in matches we either lost anyway or won by a larger margin.

I still want him to stay, but am hoping he'll score a few more in the tight matches as well next season.
