Taken from the Indy Rs site. Didn't we win a few of those 5-a-side tournaments back in the day if memory serves correctly.

Yup, I was at Wembley Arena when we won in late 70s. Think it was six a side then but might be wrong.

5-a-side was our speciality:

'QPR enjoyed this competition collecting the title a record five times. Winning the trophy three times in four years in the early seventies.'

I was there in '85 and, yes, I remember all the beer cans...

Recall us winning on penalties in the final against the Gooners but I have a memory of the semi-final against Charlton (?) also being a great game.

Those 5 or 6 a side games were great and were shown on Sports Night on Wednesdays. QPR were indeed a force to be reckoned with in those competitions back in the 70's. If I remember rightly Leyton Orient were pretty good at it too. Look what's happened to them since.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

Orient had some good players in those days...Laurie Cunningham springs to mind.

Yes - John Chiedozie also. Think they reached the FA Cup semi-finals too.

Didn’t they used to do a tournament In Manchester for the whole of the first division ?
I’m pretty sure that used to be on sports night , if memory serves I recall charlton winning it and David speedie ( Coventry at the time) chipping a goalkeeper In a five a side goal

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Yes, there was a National as well as a London. But, I never watched the former, it was all about London to me and my mates.

When they took the fun out of football. Though I think that even this happy go lucky event suffered from a few of bouts of hooliganism.
