January Transfer Window/Prem Loans 09:29 - Dec 16 with 2528 viewsenfieldargh

Article in the Athletic reports that Prem Teams may not want to loan our fringe squad players due to covid depleting squads numbers. If they do could be recall agreements put in place

This could well impact loans down into the Championship.

The need for wing backs looks imperative to us being able to sustain a push for the play offs.

Our wing backs are pretty fragile and with postponed games causing a fixture pile up not sure Wallace, Moses, McCallum will be up to the task.

Maybe we could re-visit the wing back playing for Fortuna Sittard, not that I know if he's any good

Everything 'up in the air' at the moment. We will just have to try any options that we can find/afford and get on with it. Going to be the same for everyone but the parachute payment clubs have yet another advantage.

We might have to resort to recalling our loans towards the end of the window.

Not usually one for hankering after ex players, but if Palace aren't going to field Eze can we have him on loan if Chair goes to AFCON?

HIghly doubt AFCON will take place after recent covid outbreak

The latest media reports say AFCON organisers are insisting the tournament will go ahead.

I guess they have to say now but, with the exponential rise in Covid infections, they may well be forced to cancel it.

I assume individual clubs can't ban their players from going but could for eg the Premier League and the EFL say to AFCON "we will not release our players due to safety concerns", or they have no authority to do that?

Kevin Gallen and those other blokes in their West London Sports podcast were suggesting we might go back in for that left back (Cox?) who we wanted pre season from Holland (formerly with Brighton from memory). Gallen was saying that tho Wallace is brilliant when he plays he clearly has muscle problems that only allows him to play a few games at a time. He also said of McCallum that with his hamstring injury once that goes seriously once, unless you 100% recover, it can just go again v easily. Basically he was saying you really notice the difference with us when we are bombing forward with a specialist left wing back and that this is essential for our season.

Tend to agree but obvs have to respect the board's decision as its their money.

No. It's a FIFA rule.

You have to wonder if Cameroon, the country hosting AFCON, might say no. After all, their current Covid infection rate is tiny compared to Europe's and there will be every possibility of teams bringing more of the virus into the country. However, as a very poor nation, they'll want the money that comes with the tournament.

I'd say that the George Cox signing is a bit of a shoe in.

Let's hope that he'll come here to work hard for his place and doesn't turn out to be a loafer!

I think it’s now or never for this AFCON. Given that the World Cup ends on 18 December next year, I don’t think it’s viable to host another major tournament a couple of weeks later.

Covid may be the biggest issue in Europe, it's nowhere near the biggest of issues for Africa. If this tournament gets cancelled, it won't be because of Cameroon's fear of covid

If he does sign, we can say we have a Cox and Ball story when they play together.
