I've committed the cardinal error of buying a laptop with poor speakers. Is there such a thing as a sound amplifier that will raise the audio levels, or a pair of external speakers that also amplify? Something that goes up to 11? |  |

you don't really need and amp & separate speakers as a lot of speakers are active now (have an amp in them)
Unless you want to fork out some serious wedge and buy a good amp/speakers? I assume you'd rather just send the sound wirelessly. A lot of the newer amps can receive digital sound via bluetooth/wireless. And you would be getting into hundreds & thousands of pounds this way
The Megaboom 3's are really really good, loud enough for a party that would piss of the neighbours and better than most 'stereo' systems

We use the Bose wireless SoundLink Mini II which Is superb.
When I want Mans 'quite time' I have a set of Sennheiser wireless Over-Ear Headphones. (they are brilliant)
When Mrs Ted want's Woman's 'quiet time' she has a pair of over ear Bose wireless headphones. (apparently they are brilliant)

Yeah not a big fan of BOSE either.
There's tons of choices for this kind of thing.
Last time I bought this kind of thing I went for an Audio Pro C3 wireless speaker. Robust and well built and quite a few options for connecting to it. Battery powered too which I didn't really need. Good full sound, not tinny in the slightest. |  |

Yep and four little balls of blue tack underneath each speaker in the corners to keep them slightly of the floor or shelf - makes a difference. |  |

Before getting speakers, you may need to check what sound card/ DAC/ audio processor you have in the laptop. It's not worth spending good money on great speakers if the sound output is poor to begin with.
You can do this by searching for Device Manager and then in the window that appears, select Device Manager. Click the Arrow next to Sound, video and game controllers. Your sound card is in the list that appears. |  |
