Take Me Out to the Ballgame 14:35 - Oct 21 with 19578 viewsTheChef

Hoping there are a few other baseball fans here (in addition to the NFL malarkey).

Blue Jays just made it to the World Series for the first time in 32 years!

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

What a heartbreaker. If the Jays can come back after that it'll be amazing.

Except if you live in LA where it is All Hail The Dodgers!

At least not Yankees and best coast West Coast while not the elitist styling of San Francisco Giants.

Also Ohtani and Yamamoto like watching Pele or Maradona play football, Tiger in his prime golf, Steve Davis snooker. That good even if they are hired hands bought for gazillions.

Sometimes the rich kid schoolyard bully is just better than you.

We Love LA.

And don't sleep on true hero of 18-inning epic, Red bead journeyman relief pitcher Will Klein.

Yeah it's a real sickener but I suppose on the plus side they don't have long to dwell on it. On the downside it looks like Springer is out injured.

And much as we moan about refs, some of the umpire calls last night were somewhat bizarre.

That was a surprise waking up at 6am and seeing 40mins of baseball. game went on nearly 7 hours, as long as a cricket ODI!

LA had at least 3 or 4 innings with a guy in scoring position with 2 outs and never could get him in.

Ohtani was walked like 5 times not letting him hit. (He'd hit 2HRs earlier)

Hope they bring out some rappers like last year although I suspect it was more to do with West coast/East coast thing (LA/NY) Ice Cube was amazing, if you havn't seen it, Youtube it

I'm still learning, but it seems slightly mad that they can agonise over something like Naylor jumping into the ball in the Mariners/Jay game 7, yet an umpire egregiously calling a strike on a ball miles outside the box just has to be lumped

Well plus the fact the ump took so long to call it when the batter thought it was a clear walk, Guerrero on first base thought the same and then got tagged too, so it was two outs when even one out was harsh!

Well that was very satisfying. If they do go down the Jays won't go down easy. I'm even beginning to believe they may not go down at all...

...Nah. Pretend you didn't read that!

Fear and gloom in LA!

They will now have to win series in Toronto.

Top local sports columnist blasting Dodgers 'damn awful bullpen'.

Maybe Ohtani is human.

Game 5 on Wednesday basically must win for LA.

And if this is all Greek to you, oh well. Better than overpraised, muscled and moneyed NFL anyway.

And here's hoping England put up a fight in Ashes tour.

Blue Jays ahead and the last two games are back in Canada. Could the surprise be on?

What a performance by the rookie pitcher who started the season at a club four divisions below the majors. Amazing stuff by Yesavage! (And what a great name : )

BTW forgot to mention there is a photo of me at Citizens Bank Park wearing an R's shirt that got printed in a Rangers matchday programme! I'll have to dig it out and remind myself what I looked like before I became a silver fox!

Woe is LA!

The curse of Meghan and Harry who turned up at Game Four in Dodger caps and were roundly booed by fans when shown on the big screen.

The surprise is not just on but likely at this point.

Washington Post headline: The Dodgers stopped hitting, and the World Series suddenly flipped.

My headline: Rich kid schoolyard bully has now had his pants pulled down by plucky Canucks!

Plucky to a point: Blue Jays payroll is a fat $255 million, 5th in baseball. Paupers, no but good yes.

And politically Canada beating US of A at its own self-stled 'national past-time' has a ton of resonance, of course, given cross border trade war.

Glimmer of hope: Dodgers ace Yamamoto starting pitcher in Game Six on Halloween Night in Great North.

He's only coming off two complete games in a row. Kinda like Coventry putting together back to back 7-1 wins.

And if baseball is still all Greek to you ('glorified rounders innit?!) well there is some soccer/football/futbol news out of 'Tinseltown', 'La La Land' as no-one locally calls LA.

The mighty black and gold of LAFC won their first playoff game against Austin last night 2-1.

But MLS still v much fifth billing or less behind MLB Dodgers, NBA Lakers and Clippers, NFL Rams and Chargers, and NHL Kings.

And that's with the other LA Team, the less-than-stellar Galaxy being current MLS Champs.

OTOH. I just can't let rookie Trey Yesavage's pitching display pass without a mention. Last night was just his fifth start in the major leagues. Twelve strikeouts — a record for a rookie in a playoff. As Cathal Kelly wrote in today's Globe & Mail, he has "a splitter so wicked it looks like it’s being thrown into a wind machine." The Dodger's much vaunted hitters just couldn't get into the same area code as his killer pitch.

That's a great line, I love a splitter.

Is it the same guy who slept as a teenager with a a baseball cling filmed between his fingers to stretch them out?

That's commitment.

I hadn't heard that about him, but it makes sense. His arm action and release is, apparently, incredibly deceptive. He started Game One of the series and didn't have his best stuff but still managed to get out of it without giving up a lead. Yesterday though he was truly "lights out."

Come on Jays! I'd imagine this will piss off MAGA even more if they win. I live just around the corner from where the Vancouver Canadians play, they are a feeder team/affiliate for the Blue Jays.

I lived at 16th and Columbia back in the seventies. The Canadians were the triple 'A' club for Oakland back then, so I was up there regularly. Nat Bailey is such a pretty little ballpark, on a Summer evening there's no better place to be.

the commentators last night said Yesavage didn't start playing baseball until high school. he's now 22. so he's been playing a maximum of 8 years? can that be right?

even my son, who went last night and is true dodgers blue, thought he was great.

Especially on the days you can bring your dog - that's fun! I think the rookie Jays pitcher that did so well last night came through the Canadians?

Apparently he wasn't particularly good, or interested, in baseball until he was 14 when he went to a summer baseball camp.

Am just catching up now on the game 3 highlights. That was an amazingly bad call. You don't need a new fangled strike zone box thing to see it was so obviously up. I think the umpire switched off and then tried to cover himself.

Hoping to wake up in time for a decent amount of tonight's game anyway.
