Back to the future - Preview 31st Oct 2025 17:23
Football's back to the future 25/26 brings a classic 90s fixture to Loftus Road this Saturday, but who's coping better with the throwback? 2

Cheers Clive. Personally, this is the second most important game of the season, with the visit to Portman Road topping the bill.

My expectations for tomorrow depend on whether we can survive the opening 15 minutes, which is the period where Ipswich have dominated lots of games. Withstand that & we will have every chance. Concede & it might be a very long afternoon (week for some of us).

The one position that Ipswich are far better than us is the goalkeeper, but that has been nullified by the injury to Palmer. I actually prefer Nardi to Walton!

Apart from possession, there is quite a simlarity as to how both teams play, with the right sided "winger" staying wider than the inverted left sided "winger". In fact, Philogene cuts inside defenders more than anyone I can recall seeing & shoots from outside the penalty area more than Chair has ever done.

This might be designed to try to leave the wide area for Davies, who is their most creative player, but although their left back, is their worst defender. There will be lots of space for Burrell to use behind Davies if we can supply him as we should. It's also close to which team has the least under performing right back, with Dunne & Furlong a long way behind their past performances. It might be that Johnson is preferred for Ipswich, although it would be nice if Young got the call! And hopefully, Taylor will retain his place in midfield.

Please Rangers, make me a happy man on the 6.00 train back home!

I've got a bad juju on 1-2. Ignore me.

So Ipswich top the table on “chance creation”. At some point they must surely turn those chances into goals.

Step up Charity Park Rangers. Our propensity to give away soft goals gives me palpitations, so I am not feeling confident. At all.

Just a thought, but is it possible that the 9 games winning streak while having less possession is given slightly too much weight due to the fact that the modern way is to sh*t house your way to 3 points from the minute you have the lead?

Thanks Clive, great to see positivity.

Re Harvey Vale he is potentially that good, that he could play a number of roles,, which might work against him. If Madsen was injured or suspended ( that won’t happen) Vale would be my 1st choice in front of the back 4.

Could be a monster subs bench

Why do posters think Vale could play CM?? Any evidence or reasons or just #finger in the air stuff'??

Tbf mate we’ve had a couple of managers recently who weren’t much more than that.

Quality analysis, Terry.

Really look forward to watching that tomorrow, and - more importantly - watching how we hopefully win the battle.

Thanks Clive.
Re: the Sheffield Wednesday comments. I was at Hillsborough last Saturday, to see them lose 1-2 to Oxford. (Yes, I know I could have been at Derby, but sometimes an invitation from a friend cannot be turned down). I have never been to a competitive match where the fans of a beaten home side were as happy when leaving the ground. It was bizarre.

Thanks Clive.

Mention of Bardsley and Wilson made me feel very nostalgic. IMHO the best pair of full backs in the Premier League at that time.

Fantastic weren't they.

Anyone else notice how everything went through Wilkins with those three goals. World class.

2-0 QPR for no other reason than having watched that clip.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

My thoughts are with you Terry, having to get the 6pm train after that second half non performance, if Norrington Davies had started and we had a better keeper we probably would have got a point.
