Disciplinarian Required? 13:06 - Nov 5 with 1767 viewstemplarinexile

There seems t to be a groundswell for a new manager to send a few rockets up the player's appropriate body parts .

If Tondo wants to make an impression he could start by dropping AA, and any others of his shabby cohort who admit to having given less than 100%.

If that means major overhaul and a shedload of U21s coming in then bring it on.

Hansen once said "you'll win nothing with kids" - well we can't seem to win anything with "experienced" old pros.

Not necessarily a disciplinarian but we definitely need a manager that the players will instinctively respect as a leader, and someone who is going to be able to man manage any piss taking from individual players.

Their position is undermined by having a director of football ultimately in control of key decisions. The likes of Lawrie McMenemy and Alex Ferguson were able to get rid of any senior pros who didn't show respect towards them. That's not the case for our managers now.

I'm really not sure that having a director of football is such a good thing, especially not the one we have at the moment. There have been reports of senior players going above the heads of our managers to the DOF. That's not good for team disipline.

I think Gerrard is that man
not only will he garner respect there are a lot of our players who would be petrified of him as they aren't fit to tie his laces
he would sort the wheat from the chaff quickly

Villa fans will disagree. They couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

I think we tried a disciplinarian in the form of Nathan Jones: presumably Capt Jack decided that he didn’t like him and told the team to stop trying…🙄
Sorry for the sarcasm - still incensed by the AA interview.

Not sure we'll get anywhere with a disciplinarian. What's he going to do, drop players? That's exactly what WS did and look how the players reacted. The disciplinarian would drop JS and the Rusty favourites and they'd down tools again. What happens then? Manager sacked.

The problem is the toxic culture at SFC where players can get away with downing tools and it's the manager who gets sacked. There's a bunch of players there who like to have the manager treat them as their mate and it will be difficult to move on until they either lose influence or are gone.

Spot on.
The Great George Graham once said that the players will never respect you if you get to friendly / familiar with them.
Managers / Coaches should "Not" be treating players us best buddies.
And the even Greater Alan Ball once told me that it's virtually impossible to manage players that have a bigger salary than the manager.
