He is crap though. He's played well over 100 games for the club at this point, probably closer to 200 and anyone who says he's looked Championship standard in anything more than a couple of dozen of them is lying. He's nothing more than an average AM, and usually much worse when we play him up front. What he does have is an almost supernatural ability to score late goals, which convinces some people that he's a much better player than he actually is. So then he starts a few games, is almost guaranteed to be shite in them and then ends up back on the bench again. Then he comes off the bench and scores, and the whole cycle starts again. We're going to be stuck with Cullen scoring 5-8 goals a season until the 2030's unless someone grows a pair and tries to replace him with someone who can score the 5-8 goals and play well too.

| Swansea City v Stoke City : Match day thread on 20:10 - Mar 7 by SgorioFruit | I’ve got one complaint. WHY DONT WE WHIP EVERY CORNER INTO THE BOX. We were taking a few corners short which literally leads to us struggling to get a cross into the box when we literally just had an opportunity to get a cross into the box from said corner. Then when we did whip the ball into the box from the corner we get our first goal, excellent. So don’t take any corners short. Whip the bloody ball into the box, why? Because it gets goals. I’m not whinging after a cracking win though. SGORIOFRUIT OUT!!!! |

I think they are trying with Widell who is not a 10 and Walta who is, only time will tell. Currently Matos is besotted with him and it is not an over statement.

Cullen scores those all important goals with a boot that’s got some super douper power to it. Always happy to see him come on the pitch. Gives his all and scores those important goals when they are needed. Job done.

| Swansea City v Stoke City : Match day thread on 17:45 - Mar 7 by Dr_Winston | He's going to hate his usual targets no matter what. You can't reason with an intellect that limited. Might as well ask a dog why it prefers one ball to another. You're not going to get an answer that makes sense either way. First 15-20 minutes or so we were well on top and playing some nice interchange attacking football, Key and Eom both showing good stuff there. Then we stopped doing it. Stoke forced our midfield back and started dominating until Sorba Thomas went loopy. After that we were mostly the better side, although I maintain we could fix a lot of our attacking woes by getting the midfield right. We spent too much time going from side to side because we didn't have anyone able to split a packed defence. Not one of Galbraith, Franco or Stamenic is an attacking midfielder. All are good at what they do, but we can't be asking Stamenic to dictate our play for example when he's so slow on the ball. Galbraith should be sitting deeper, with Widell at the top until Walta is up to speed. Perm any one from Franco or Yalcouye to be the dog. Cullen put in the most Cullen sub performance he has all season. Ballsing up a break where he had three wide open passing options yet somehow ended up falling over, and finding the back of the net with a chance that wasn't on. As a fanbase we should probably stop pretending that he's anywhere near good enough to be starting games, but if we're desperate he does have a knack of finding the net off the bench. Agree with you on Cullen,he really is frustrating ,comes up with important goals without really looking like he should be on the pitch The break we had that he ballsed up had people around me seething ,then he comes up with a great goal He really is an enigma | | | | Login to get fewer ads

But a well worked corner to give is the goal...obviously one we had worked on as Ttmon was clearly signalling .....and Vip made a great run |
And the third time this season he’s scored a goal from an identical corner. And there was me thinking Mark Robins was a decent coach.

Vipotnik makes that move at least once every game. If the defenders track him it leaves space in the centre/back of the goal, if they don't he scores or gets very close. We do vary our corners now even playing them low outside the area. At least we practice set plays unlike previously when we went months without scoring from one.

I'd rather keep him next season and he scored 5 goals. He loves the club he gets same stick as Fulton. Probably better at their jobs people having a go at them. Can't see many others in the team scoring 5 a season. What he good at finding space good at free kicks and vision to read the game. Or he rubbish according to people never kicked a ball.

Scoring a lot more goals from set pieces under Matos, wasn't O'Dea suppose to be a set piece coach? It did look as if Vipotnik marker got blocked by Cabango because Vipotnik started his loop around run very close to Cabango making it impossible for his marker to track him. On our defensive corners we ensure we have a man on the front edge of the six yard box to attack the low whipped in ball a man on the front post and the big men zonal marking, noticed Cabango near the back post instead of Stamenic who was in the middle, Cabango there to stop those back post crosses being as effective. Remember Potter using zonal marking in the box and it just didn't work leaving us conceding late goals. Teams will always concede at corner, all about limiting at one end and scoring at the other.

Off the bench definitely, when he starts, it's like playing with 10 men, but does have important goals in him.
| Swansea City v Stoke City : Match day thread on 08:29 - Mar 8 with 1635 views | RichardO | Still have my worries about how Stoke opened us up and had two very good scoring chances, great save by Vigouroux and block by Key, it came after a good period of play by us where we also could have scored but then did we get careless in our defensive work, getting caught out by pushing too many players forward without adequate cover. Our game became a little too open after a good 10 or 15 minutes did Galbraith push on a little too much too early instead of starting from a slightly deeper area keeping the midfield solid while allowing to be part of better distribution from the midfield he will have to be careful as later in the game while trying too hard .to effect the game he got caught on the ball luckily he does have a certain amount of strength and ball skills to get himself out of trouble this time. Nunes who didn't get a lot of ball when he came on went deeper in search of the ball maybe rotating with Tymon but he also did the usual thing a player with good ball skills and trick that are useful further upfield and took too many touches getting caught on the ball instead of taking the easier option in a dangerous area of the pitch. Stoke created chances as we did, we managed this time to remain unbreached. To be fair to Nunes he did seem a bit more motivated into tracking or tackling back but as with most inexperienced players gave away a number of freekicks. It is nice having some of these quality young players on loan but they are still relatively inexperienced at senior level and hopefully that inexperience will not affected us too much as we try to build an more effective squad for the future. Yeah. Widell is definitely more of an eight than a ten. Surprised we didn't see Walta at any point once they'd gone down to ten men. | |

A number of managers realised he wasn't the answer to who should take the corners and stopped him taking corners then they used him as that player who sat deep at our corners to counter the opposition counter attacks and then realised he was too slow to do that, with the recycling on managers they each had to learn over and over again, rewind and repeat for the fans, Grimes needs the right players around him, yes he is or was an integral part of the team but maybe having a quality midfield player as his manager has enabled Coventry to get the best out of him for their team. Cullens goal was excellent he saw an opportunity and executed it brilliantly reminiscent of Bode's goal. Trundles goal Pratleys which was an important goal for us at that time. 4 excellent goals fair play
| Swansea City v Stoke City : Match day thread on 12:07 - Mar 8 with 1296 views | RichardO | Excellent goal, awareness that goalie was off his line good position waiting for the players poor clearance and snap decision for the goal. Usually your first instinct to play the ball is correct, play the ball quickly before the chance goes. He delayed his pass on the earlier break away until it became unworkable, which he would have been throwing a tantrum if the through ball chance was missed by others. I for one was bemoaning a missed opportunity only to be relieved and happy for him to ensure the 3 points were secured. | | | |

Remarkable goal from Cullen. He’s a good player with an intelligent football brain and this goal is another example of his superb vision. That takes some doing, just to strike the ball wifh that precision and power but notably to look up quickly to see that the keeper had strayed. We have some difficult games in the run in but 10-12th is achievable now.
