Much improved performances the past couple of games after some absolute stinkers. He looks physically bigger in the upper body to me, and is definitely harder to knock off the ball.
Maybe having a more mobile RB is helping as well.

Tracking back is improving but to me always seems to pretend to track back and putt a tackle in then gives up.
Definitely has the skills and passing quality to unlock defences, stick with him he'll come good. | |

I'm a harsh critic of him but have to agree his last two games he's gone up a notch or two.
Still needs to get involved more for me but last night and Saturday he did impose himself a lot more.
I kind of like that he's prepared to have a pop outside the box an all.
Him on one flank and Chair on the other doing that is a good thing.
Currently i'd still opt for Smyth / Saito ahead of him but fair play to the lad. He's doing what he can and I'll credit where it's due. |  |

Certainly been better recently & seems to be over the early season hamstring issues but still Needs to improve his decision making & final ball IMO.
Very skilful on the ball but can appear a bit selfish at times, shooting when other players are in better positions & still doesn’t track back enough for me. |  | | |

I tend to agree with what you. I wa t to see more of an end product and even better corners like the near post ones he too early last season.

Yes, he seems a bit more dialed-in and consistent lately.
I wish our three midgets could develop some sort of partnership/connection/understanding.
If they could all get on the same wavelength, Dembele, Saito and Chair could really stretch and test defences but currently they seem to operate as "sole traders" making individual moves and attacks.
Maybe the familiarity will come if JS remains patient and gives them plenty of minutes as a trio on the pitch. | | | |

I really think having Mbengue as a right back is helping him. A lot of the time although he is playing out wide his starting position is slightly narrower. It allows him to go past a player either side of them. Also if you have Mbengue charging down the outside it is something else for the defenders to think about. Same with RND going down the line. Allows Chair to come inside or start a bit narrower. Chair doesn't have the speed to be a winger but playing a bit more inside he has the skill to make some space for himself and make something happen | | | |

I would agree - only Morrison seems to have suffered from this.
I’m sure he was sent down the tunnel to change into Keeper’s kit last night after the injury to Hamer. So from starter, to sub to emergency keeper in the space of a month.
We look better in general at the back - Keepers aside. Field has been reliable standing in and Cook’s been getting back to business too.
Having your captain in the middle provides a lot more influence.
Overall Dembele looks much more at ease and better tracking back. I’d give him more set pieces than Chair. Chair is great at many things but set pieces are not his forte. |  |

His corners were better yesterday, agreed - also less of the short nonsense that usually provides an opportunity to the oppo.
But when was the last time we looked like scoring from one ? Chair’s crosses in open play are much better especially when we have players anticipating them, as per last night. Very happy with those in recent games.
Back to Dembele - he gets a lot of whip at pace and is left footed so why not give him the corners on the other side if he’s starting. Plus a couple of free kicks too - at least it gives the opposition something different to defend and that creates chances as we have seen with Arsenal’s SPs.
JCS also has a mean left foot for a point of difference (ok, it’s strapped up like Gump, but he can break the shackles 2-3 times a season). | |

Yep, it wouldn't be a bad idea to share set pieces between them, particularly as Chair's right footed and Dembele's left footed. I'd keep JCS in the box as he provides height. | | | |

He can be a really frustrating player, but when he's good you get a glimpse of the potential. He's young and clearly has a high ceiling, hopefully Stéphan can get the best out of him and we'll have a player.
Smyth's a whole different thing. We get his all every time he plays, which has its limits but deployed properly is very effective. Also he's just a brilliant character. Basically I have uncritical love for him. |  | | |
