In terms of stats and all that, Stokes' figures stack up pretty well for a modern test all-rounder (7000+ runs batting at 5/6 and 250 wickets). Puts him in the same conversation as Kallis and Jadeja. Fair enough, he's no Sobers or Botham but, realistically, who is? He was a great change bowler when Anderson and Broad had finished their spells and was a handy batter in a pinch. Personally, I always felt good seeing him in the slips or at point: great hands. |  |

When talking about the all rounders England have had down the years, I always feel Tony Greig gets overlooked somewhat. 3600 runs @ 40 and 141 wickets @ 32 in 58 tests, 34 of which were against very strong Australian and West Indian teams.
Bizarrely though, he performed better overseas. Both his batting and bowling were more effective in tests abroad than at home, more runs and wickets and better averages.
Just under half his tests were overseas but his batting average was twelve runs higher than at home and his bowling average nearly ten runs better than at home. A real world class all rounder overseas; batting average of nearly 47 and bowling average of 28.
