This was the 'facts' bit of the signing story we had prepared for him...
Tommie Hoban is a 23-year-old centre back or full back of Irish descent, born in Walthamstow and brought up in Chingford and Woodford Green.
Although he’s a graduate of the youth set up at Watford, where he has made 44 starts and ten sub appearances scoring once since making his senior debut as a 22nd minute substitute away to Preston on the final day of the 2010/11 season, he actually started at North London giants Arsenal.
Having joined the Gunners’ youth set up as a seven-year-old (I know, crazy isn’t it?) he was released at 14 and picked Watford ahead of a clutch of clubs interested in securing his services. He was just 17 when he replaced Martin Taylor in that 3-1 loss at Preston and signed professional terms with the Hornets three days later.
He spent some of 2011/12 on loan at Wealdstone and it wasn’t until September 2012 that he made another appearance in the Watford first team. He started a 3-2 win at Huddersfield on the last Saturday of September and never really looked back, scoring on his second and fifth appearances against Charlton and Cardiff and quickly racking up 19 appearances.
However, he suffered an ankle injury that February which ended his season and so begins an ever-increasing tale of injury woe. He initially missed games after New Year’s Day with an ankle issue, and was then rated as a “doubt” for a February 2013 game at Birmingham with the same problem. In the end, he didn’t reappear in Watford’s first team until February 2014 — a full 12 months.
He made just seven appearances for Watford in 2013/14 between February 15 and May 3 but clocked up 30 the following year — picking up a first career red card for two bookings in a 2-2 draw at Wolves in March and attracting rumoured interest from Premier League clubs along the way.
Watford were promoted to the Premier League themselves that season but Hoban didn’t play a single minute in 2015/16 in the top flight. A groin and stomach problem that had been troubling him since February in the promotion season continued through the pre-season resulting in September surgery that sidelined him for four months.
The captain of the Republic of Ireland’s Under 21 side headed out on loan to Championship club Blackburn last season in search of first team football, and fitness, and there was some <a href= http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/08/26/watford-fans-react-to-tommie-hobans-loan-to among Watford fans that somebody they consider “one of our best defenders” was being shovelled out, albeit temporarily.
However, he was restricted to just 15 starts and one sub appearance for the relegated Rovers side because of a dislocated shoulder which required surgery and kept him out from October 22 to March 11. When he returned he scored the only goal of the game as Blackburn won at Forest but the team was still relegated on the final day of the season despite winning at Brentford — a game Hoban missed through injury.
He has joined QPR on a season long loan deal and been handed squad number…
That's hilarious! How many other players have a premature signing story?
Probably got a couple of dozen of those for players that didn't happen - Darren Ambrose we wrote up certainly. The opinion bit of the Hoban article got cut and shut into the Baptiste piece.

Ah yes Darren Ambrose. One of those players like Ashley Williams and Danny Graham. Constantly linked but never came. Probably would have been for the wrong reasons if they had!

Since we're on the subject of almost signings, who was the Colombian striker we tried to sign under 'Arry? photos of him landing at Heathrow and everything. is he a superstar yet?

Now plying his trade playing for Udinese on a 2 year loan from Napoli, which it looks like is about to finish so he'll be going back to Napoli unless of course we go in for him. Again!

going back in the day i remember us pretty much having a deal done for Mickey Hazard back in 87 what a signing that would have been, im sure ken bates pulled the plug at the last minute also we had a double deal for John Humphries and the Charlton striker Paul Williams agreed for 1.5 million back in 1990 until Charlton demanded more money , that season we went out and got paul wright and then replaced him wegerle
didnt we have a deal lined up for an Argentian winger about 10 years ago, im sure I recall a photo of him at Heathrow with a QPR shirt or scarf
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

any richard dunne types knocking about?
We are absolutely fine with what we've got IMO. Onouha might make a mistake, but is a great defender at this level, a credit to the club and a good captain. I'm not really convinced by Lynch, but he does a job. Perch tends to peform okay as long as he doesn't play RB. Hoban would have been back up, but we signed Baptiste instead, so that's our lot. Hall supposedly back after the international break, and Caulker will come back when last orders is called. That is 6 CBs for 3 spots, with youth players available to step up if we have some sort of catastrophe.

I agree with that. Think we can see how we go until January and then see how Hall's fitness is, if Caulker is back and still with us, whether Lynch and Perch are performing ok and whether the young defenders are developing.
