Opposition View on Tonight
at 23:00 6 Mar 2024

Just been reading the West Brom message board and such comments other than being very impressed were ‘This QPR team should be top of the league’, ‘on this display they should be challenging for the top two’, ‘best team we have played all season’ and my favourite so far ‘it’s been like playing Man City without the goals!’

Tuesday Nights Attendance
at 14:39 30 Nov 2023

Let’s be honest, given that we hadn’t won at home for 13 matches, scoring very few goals, it was a very cold Tuesday night, the game could be viewed on the red button, to have yet another near sell out was fantastic............except, let’s be really honest here, there was certainly at least 6,000 empty seats, and given that Clive’s match report suggested that there were 1,100 Stoke fans in attendance in an away end holding 2,800, although I noticed that the lower tier was sparsely populated with home supporters, the maths just do not add up, nor the vast empty rows of seats in the SAR upper. I cannot think for the life of me that season tickets en masses decided to stay at home. So what’s the reason? Increase revenue to help placate FFP fears or to show any potential future owner that this is a well supported club whatever the weather or state of the team?

VAR and the so called big clubs
at 08:51 15 Aug 2023

Despite all its obvious flaws I thought that VAR was there to try and make things fair and also for me take away the perceived and not without good evidence the bias refereeing towards the bigger clubs. Once again last night, in the last minute of injury time a major decision made by the on field ref which was then backed up by the VAR ref was so obviously wrong that it was totally embarrassing.

Any other fellow R’s collecting stuff. I started off a few years ago collecting Wisden Cricket almanacs. Have now achieved the full set from 1946 to the present day, and a yellow wall is a big feature on my book case. Now starting to get the war years and then go backwards towards the 1930’s and 1920’s, but that will be a slow process due to the cost of originals. Have some early ones, 1940 and 1934 at the moment and also a facsimile of 1916 which has a 35 page obituary of W G Grace.

Gazball
at 08:33 30 Apr 2023

Was thinking that if more teams adopted Gazball as we’ve seen in the last couple of matches, could it leave the ball left on the halfway line with both teams sitting deep in their own halves waiting for the other team to make a move?

I’ve read about what a great job this guy does in terms of identifying players not only for the current season 😮 but also for future campaigns but it has left me scratching my head that the heads of recruitment at Luton and Millwall, two clubs who are fishing in the same tank as us and yet have built decent, solid teams. The only players since the start of the Warburton era that I’d be happy to keep or have kept was Barbet, Ball, Field and Dykes. So with the likes of Ferdinand, Hoos, Ramsey, Hall, Furlong and Impey, what the heel does this guy do to earn his money?

Eyebrows

Anybody else who is in their 50’s and their eyebrows are the last attachment to their original hair colour when all else has turned grey or fallen out and then you start to get these white hairs within them that grow to a centimetre in length overnight with the thickness of barbed wire? I now have to pluck these fûckers out constantly and sitting on a train home there is an old boy opposite me who seems to have combed his eyebrows in different directions with a parting given the length of them! Is this what I have to look forward to?

Football Regulation Proposals
at 07:52 23 Feb 2023

Reading the outline proposals, particularly such things as fairer distribution of wealth of PL money and also the need for each club to provide viable business plans each year, could this part especially see the death nell of FFP? Can a viable business plan include additional shareholder funding for player investment? Certainly interesting that the EFL are all for it and the PL are not so keen. Now part of this should also be addressing the Cat1 v The Rest academy bias.

That’s all you can say. No intensity whatsoever. Usual pedestrian build up from the back going backwards more often than forwards and giving the opposition plenty of time to organise. If Critchley cannot see this then his supposedly high qualifications (one of 16 globally) is worth shît.

FFP or P&S Whatever you want to call it.
at 10:44 4 Dec 2022

Apart from the obvious flaws in the system which has been covered on here a few million times, I was wondering that given the current inflationary backdrop of the country as a whole which football clubs will not be immune to, especially given that such things as minimum wage increases have been higher than inflation (6%) last year for example and not forgetting that football like any other business will not benefit from the price energy cap, then why has the limit be fixed at a rolling £39million loss over three years. In addition to this there is a bias in the system towards more regional clubs, especially those in the north where probably the cost of wages and player wages will generally be lower than in the south and especially London. Could it be that we are probably more limited by FFP than any other club in the championship?

Gordon Jago Happy 90th Birthday
at 08:21 22 Oct 2022

And what a great manager he was. Laid the foundations for THAT team. Was the Rangers manager when I first saw QPR at the age of five and watching that team in the 72-73 season I thought that supporting QPR was a matter of winning every week, seeing lots of goals scored and a club in a very modern stadium. A team made up of a mixture of youth players, Clement, Gillard, Hazell, Francis, Leach and Busby and some fantastically astute signings, Parkes, Givens, Thomas and Stan and some great experience such as Venables, Mancini, Ferguson and eventually, McLintock.

Great days as a kid, scrambling up the perimeter wall of the paddock near the School End, hanging on for grim death and falling down every time we scored. Watching the shiny new Ellerslie Road stand develop and seeing the old Joe Coral scoreboard proclaim the score, fixed to the giant of a floodlight pylon on the corner of the Ellerslie Road and School End part of the ground. Happy, happy days.

Thank you for creating those wonderful childhood memories Gordon. Happy birthday!!!!!

Open Letter to Mick Beale
at 09:32 20 Oct 2022

Dear Mick

Firstly I would like to thank you for what you have so far achieved with QPR. I think that every Rangers supporter is looking at the league table with a huge sense of pride, but with a tinge of sadness with the reports abound of your ‘imminent departure’.

When you came to Loftus Road in the summer and during this time you stated that you ‘get this club’. It is a special club, it is a unique club and we know as a supporter group, especially in this day and age that when we unearth a special talent we will struggle to retain that individual, Eberi Eze being the most recent example. But Ebs, chose his time right, we had a couple of special years and great memories from him and it was the right time for him to move on and we all wished him well and retain great pride in him as his career continues to develop.

With your arrival it was certainly for most of us a case of ‘Michael Who?’ Most of us uneducated type had never heard of you, a few did. And it was most certainly a gamble as far as we was concerned and with the implosion of the team at the back end of next season, and with a support base split on whether the departure of Mark Warburton was the best thing, together with reports of a huge split between first team coaching staff and the academy expectations were low and after a couple of seasons of heightened expectations the ‘traditional’ position of 16th was being banded about as being seen as a decent return for a club once again in transition.

So to see the team top of the table and playing some fantastic football is shall I say more than a pleasant surprise. And for you to be linked so quickly with vacancies and even non-vacancies at PL clubs obviously speaks volumes about your abilities. But I would ask you to consider that at this time, this should also be about the group of players that you have inherited and added to. You have in my view provided the equivalent to a footballing university education to this group of players and you can see from the youngest Tim Iroegbunam to the oldest Leon Balogun that they are lapping up the knowledge that you are imparting. Every player in the squad that has appeared in the first team this season have improved immeasurably. But to depart and leave them behind within such a short time would be like taking away that funding grant for their education. In my view you owe it to these players to lead them to their destinies for this season at least, which I am more and more confident will be to replicate two of your predecessors, Terry Venables and Neil Warnock in winning this league and promotion to the top division. And for Tim Iroegbunam, I am more than certain that you are the reason why he came to improve his footballing education at QPR.

As a young manager, I can certainly say that as a 56 year old, you have plenty of time on your side and I am sure with the success you can bring to QPR there will be much greater challenges that would be offered to you than what is available currently at Wolves. Indeed as reports suggest you are now the third choice as manager there. Indeed Bruno Lage was sacked on 2nd October, one day after our win at Bristol City which took us into 5th place. At that time you was not even on the radar. To win a promotion with a club with a smallish budget compared to many of the clubs in the championship as opposed to saving a club from relegation who to be fair should not even be in the mix given their spending in recent years in incomparable when it comes to CV’s.

Whatever the outcome of your decision I wish you continued success.
