A very good and easy to follow read. But then looking at the comparison of Preston in this article suggests that possibly half the Championship could find themselves in the same boat as us. Also given that club costs have increased in especially this year with energy costs going up, non-player wage costs increasing etc, why is it that the threshold level isn’t increased by inflation? Seems logical? Although I do understand this is the EFL we are talking about. |

Thinking about you added time I’m wondering if Chuckles Had decided that with the amount of time that Cardiff wasted drying the football that his answer to that was to reduce the amount of added time from what it should have been which if it was the case then I haven’t got any problem with at all. Watching Darnell Furlong with his ball drying antics with Brom absolutely boils my pîss and the positioning of towels around the ground should be outlawed as it is just another thing that takes time out of the game and reduces the spectacle for the paying public. |

I suspect that the reason that BOS is playing and the other contract rebels Manning and Lumley aren’t playing is due to the age of the players. BOS is still young enough for Rangers to receive a compensation fee at the end of the season, which if he has a good season should increase, whereas Manning and Lumley walk away with Rangers receiving nothing. So a nuclear winter for the pair of them won’t help the values of their signing on fees with new clubs or the potential of a higher salary especially if they haven’t kicked a ball in anger for a season. Both silly boys especially given the financial state of football during and no doubt after these times. They could probably save some money by sacking their agent. |

Another great article, humourous but also depressingly true about this once great sport that we would love to see somehow teleported back to the more honest and fun times of the 1970's. With the march of BT I would love to see SKY implode, hopefully the next TV deal will include the likes of Amazon and see SKY left with just the MLS to keep Jim White vvanking. About time you compiled a book of the last few years Clive, I suspect it could be a masterpiece. |

I too remember those three games very well. Standing on the concrete support of the bottom of the floodlight pylon on the corner of the SAR and School End, where as a nine year old you could get a great view of the game. 76-77 was the start of the 'adidas' era, and the big problem of that season was the absence of Gerry Francis who had suffered a trapped nerve in his back. Jim Gregory's mistake that he never gave Dave Sexton the same financial backing that he gave Gordon Jago, if he had then the team would have had a much more successful season, and despite this still played some great football, and not forgetting that more or less the same 11-15 players competed in 59 games that season with great cup runs in the League Cup and UEFA Cup, many of those games on quagmires compared to the pitches of today. But against, Everton, the 'freak results' never seemed to stop, or 'freak occurences, such as the hat-trick of hat-tricks in the early '90's, SInton, Ferdinand and Bradley Allen helping themselves in successive games. Will also say, that last seasons away game was without doubt the most enjoyable for me, not only the first back in the PL, but the friendliness of the home support, the congratulations of the home support after the final whistle and even the antiquatedness of the Bullens stand, which made any of the LR stands look 21st century! |

The next time that we play West Brom, may I make a recommndation of The Vine in Roebuck Street, which is about a mile from the ground walking along the tram route and for me is the best football pub I have ever been to. Four beers for less than a tenner with a decent selection of beers and which opens up into the biggest Indian restaurant and chicken tikka BBQ area, which then extends outside. Loads of big screens to watch the lunchtime footie and supporters of both sides happily mixing. And the cost of a decent plate of chicken tikka, salad and naan? £5. More than made up for the football |
