Chair…since he’s come back
at 12:48 6 Nov 2025

There are always fans around where I sit who criticise Chair. He has his faults, but for a couple of seasons he carried this club and we'd have been relegated without him. Since coming back from the latest injury I think he's been as good as anyone on the pitch with the possible exception of Burrell. His corners and crosses created more danger than any other QPR player. Yes, he sometimes holds on to the ball too long looking for the cut in and shot, but as we struggle to find any other way to score not sure I blame him. He certainly didn't gift 2 goals to Southampton last night.

My wife had and still has a bit of a crush on Jamie Mackie. Will watch to see how she feels about Burrell.

If this is true I'm appalled. We've all worked in organisations where individuals don't get on/don't like each other or words are said. But people have to be professional and find ways of getting along or managing differences. There have been many football teams where some players disliked each other but they've found ways to play together. Football clubs aren't like other companies but this is just unacceptable.

tonight
at 12:08 6 Nov 2025

We played well in spells and the stats support that. I know they don't tell you everything but we won the xG, had 20 shots to 9 and Nardi didn't have to make a save. We had over 3 times as many touches in the area and even our passing accuracy was better. Their keeper was busier and they only had 2 shots on target. I do know that it's goals that count.

But, very big but, some of those passes and touches in the area were predictable. When Saints controlled the ball they could pass more accurately, finding better angles and moved the ball quicker. Our defence has become very iffy. Mbengue, surprisingly, can be barged off the ball quite easily and Morisson never quite convinces. He was arguably at fault for both goals not getting close enough and not making a strong enough challenge. I like him but he doesn't dominate situations, although he has made some terrific goal line stops.

And then we come to the midfield. Clive has spent much of the last 2 seasons, maybe longer, explaining why a 2 man midfield doesn't work. We've got it away with it for the first few games when our new strikers, the pace in the team and Madsen's passing made teams wary. But now we're being worked out and players who haven't played at this level are now struggling, with the exception of Burrell. So, surprisingly, a 2 man midfield isn't enough to protect a vulnerable defence. Decisions for Stefan, but I can't see him putting more bodies in midfield yet.

In spite of that we were much better tonight. So we're 16th, our natural position.

QPR supporting family....since 1882...anyone knows?

The chub should find a way to honour some of these families whose support goes back 3,4 or more generations.

A lot of us can relate to that, especially after sitting in cramped LR seats for 90 minutes.

Just back - Watford reflections
at 19:40 16 Aug 2025

Agree about Mbengue. I imagine Cook is seen as cover these days.

Unfortunately. I thought Morrison might deserve some blame for both goals, although not just his fault. I thought he was good last week.

I'm not sure we can play 2 creatives (Chair + Madsen) together. We need Sam and Varane in there with Chair the main creator.

Kolli added something in the second half, but that might be because Smyth wasn't 100%. I was disappointed in Burrell, but far too early to form an opinion.

The main issue for me was how weak and slow we were especially in the first half. Watford seemed to win every challenge with their greater physicality. Stephan may still be getting used to the physicality of the Championship and how he needs to prepare and select the team.

Ah Stoke, that was magic. It was his determination to win the ball that led to the OG and victory!

Preston Reflection
at 19:46 9 Aug 2025

There were some really scintillating movements in the first hall, especially involving Dembele, Poku and Madsen's passing. But Preston made it easy by giving us space especially in midfield.

The second hand they pressed and denied space. We struggled to get going and the defence had to work hard. Having said that we mostly defended ok and created at least one great opportunity in the second period.

No need to panic, but Stephan will need to decide if he can risk Madsen in the deep lying role. I'd love him to succeed. He is the best passer of the ball at the club and made a few challenges and used his height. But if Varane comes in who drops out? You could make a case for playing Madsen instead of Chair, but I wouldn't.

Celar didn't do much. I know most fans have given up on him, but this is a new
season and he needs a few games. Burrell looked exciting when he came on. It's a long time since we've seen a striker like that.

For me the biggest question is over Walsh whose distribution was poor, including one free kick straight into touch. He needs a few games as well, but Nardi, if he stays, will be breathing down his neck.

A lot of good performances, but I think Morrison was my MotM.

I've still got the tape of the 5-5 game. Someone outside the ground was flogging them. But I don't have a VHS player! Perhaps they'll put it in my coffin when the time comes!

"A clear path to the first team" is the Comms team writing the statement for the youngsters in line with the corporate message.
But it's still a good message.

Cricket - tickets for Test at Lords
at 18:11 6 Jun 2025

I have 2 tickets for next Thursday at Lords for the World Test Championship Final between Australia and S Africa. I now can't go.
They are £75 face value but I'd be happy to give them both for £75 - two for the price of one, or even less if it's a good cause, eg youngsters who otherwise couldn't get to Lords.

The World Test Championship is a bit of a nonsense, but it should be interesting cricket. And the weather looks good.

If you're interested let me know.

WOW ! That was amazing.
at 18:17 14 May 2025

On one of my first visits to Loftus Road (1975?) there was a fan standing in the Loft holding that very album. Made me think QPR must be a very cool club. And then of course they played wonderful football and we all know the story.
Stanley Bowles and John Coltrane, an unlikely pairing, but definitely cool.

Madsen

The criticism of Madsen has been justified but he did ok last night. He does give the impression that there's a psychological problem. Whether he can't cope with the physicality of the Championship, whether he's found it hard to adjust to a new country or maybe he's just a quiet, shy lad but whatever the coaching staff need to work hard with him, probably they already are. We need to get the best out of him and last night was a sign of progress. Let's be grateful.

Marti post-Cardiff
at 11:13 7 Apr 2025

We need to be realistic. We're a cash poor team, possibly punching slightly above our weight, but tend to put in quite a few feeble performances although on our day we can match the best teams in this division.

That is mostly down to finances. Changing the Head Coach, DoF, CE, Head of Recruitment is as likely to blow up in our faces as it is to discover a genius who can turn the club around. Brentford and Brighton have done brilliantly, but they aren't the norm. There are 60 or so teams bouncing around the lower divisions who aren't successful, except the occasional promotion (or cup run - I know!).

No one has to support the Rs, although I know it's hard to give up the drug, and there are glamorous (?) Premiership teams not far away if you're disillusioned.

Marti has his weaknesses and we can all do so much better from Row G, but does anyone really believe we could find a better manager? And it's not clear that there's a better CE who would come and take over.

PS that does not mean I'm a fan of Nourry, just careful what I wish for.

Reason to support Bournemouth
at 12:18 30 Mar 2025

Apart, of course, from enjoying the demise of Abu Dhabi City, a better reason to support Bournemouth this afternoon is that one of our all time greats (if you're old enough) played for them before coming to QPR. Brian Bedford 258 games and 161 goals over 6 years in the early 60s.

And an interesting piece on why smaller clubs find it so hard to break into the elite.
