Act three – Report
at 09:35:49

I agree that Saturday's defeat is not a reason for despair, but it may mean plenty of nail biting moments through to the end of the season.
On current form and from where I'm looking Marti is the best manager we've had since...Warnock? But I'm sure we'll all continue to think we could have picked a better team or made better substitutions.

Frey ties up cliffhanger on home debut – Report

Agree about the ref. Thought he was very good and then seemed to make a series of bizarre decisions and of course all of in favour of the opposition.

Especially like the Allen clan twitching, even more so as Chair showed he can do more than check back on his right foot for the shot.

Light at the end of the tunnel, or a train coming towards us? – Analysis
at 22:30:01

Really good piece, but would be even better if you'd shown how we end up with 50 points!

I'll also be interested to see if good coaching can improve our goal scoring. If Marti can improve the defence is it reasonable to expect that, given a bit more time, he can do the same with our attack?

The QPR is strong in this one – Report
at 12:06:04

We go from rubbish to over confident so quickly and have done it under most of our managers. I agree with Clive that Marti's almost certainly the man to keep feet on the ground and make them work hard, rather than the bizarre first 20 when we were teeing up Argyle for shots.

Marti is also learning with every match, every line up and every substitution. The squad may not be great but I've more faith in his ability to get the best out of them then any recent manager.

Cifuentes influence undermined by familiar failings - Report
at 09:36:37

How do other clubs find 12-15 goals a season strikers? There are players in this league who will score goals but aren't great goal scorers or natural strikers. Isn't that a matter of coaching?

Bad, seriously bad, but not as bad as Blackburn so is that progress?

There doesn't seem to be any argument for Ainsworth staying but who could we get? We can't afford anyone decent - I'd settle for uncle Neil but could we afford him? - and surely any of those talented young managers I hear about won't want to touch us with a barge pole.

Clunky QPR left to settle for Swans stalemate - Report
at 09:41:22

I agree Chair as MotM. Sitting in the upper Loft behind the goal I didn't see the handball for the Swansea goal so maybe it was difficult for the Ref and lino to spot.

I thought there were glimmers of Willock getting into the game. For whatever reason he looks as though he's been through a really difficult time and hopefully the arm around the shoulder and some managerial love will do the trick.

Return of Wild Thing, desperate nostalgia play or just the tonic? Column
at 09:15:18

There is no genius manager who coaches like Pep Guardiola, recruits on peanuts, still picks up future internationals and plays exciting progressive football while drilling a watertight defence. There is Nathan Jones and then there's a Wild Thing. Clive is right, Ainsworth is the best choice. We'll just ditch him when we're promoted to the Premier showboat!

Something about a massacre on February 14 - Report
at 22:05:42

Of course we're bad at the moment, of course we might end up in a relegation fight, of course we might be relegated. But whose fault is this. Happy to blame the board or DoF, but a few months back we were saying how well they'd done to get Beale and a few smart signings/loans. Since then they've bought in possibly the best candidate as manager. It doesn't look like that now, but most of us thought Critchley was a good appointment.

Critchley has clearly not been able to motivate this group (so far). But there aren't dozens of great managers out there keen to come to QPR. It's easy to point to Brentford as an example of what we want to be (or Luton) but there are 70 teams in the lower divisions who are not Brentford, who yo-yo up and down, sit mid- table or flirt with the top 6 or bottom three. That's what most teams do. With our financial restrictions we don't have much choice. On top of that we've lost our star (Willock), our striker (Dykes, I know he's limited but we can now see what he gives us) and a couple of loanee kids have been crushed by Beale buggering off. And maybe a couple of our better players (Field, Chair) aren't as good as we thought. It's bottom half of the table stuff and with a bit of luck (please) we'll avoid relegation.

Luton humbling highlights scale of Critchley’s task — Report
at 19:16:27

Don't completely agree with this. You're not wrong but there is a bit more to it. We could have conceded 3 goals in the first 15 minutes (I think they may have all come from second balls) but after that we gradually got into the game. By half time we were controlling midfield and had a few decent balls into the Luton area. At half time I wasn't more than averagely concerned.

Conceding right at the start of the second half knocked the stuffing out of us and we have to believe the morale was already poor after Beale jumped ship. We then never believed we could get a goal, although we did go close a couple of times.

I agree we look too half-arsed at times just not pressurising the opposition, or willing to put the boot in when required and Luton just took the piss. It's also worrying if Critchley thinks 4-4-2 is the answer. We just haven't got the squad and waste the talents we do have - Iroegbunam, Chair especially.

Rangers stumble and fall to poor Baggies loss - Report

Agree we were dreadful in the first 15 but I thought we got better as the half wore on and for the first part of the second half were fairly comfortable but not, of course, threatening.

BTW I heard that Brandon Thomas-Asante was signed from Salford on the recommendation of one Matt Smith.

QPR endure a long night at hands of Eustace’s impressive Birmingham — Report
at 19:07:27

I agree we have to be pleased with being in the top 6 and there are probably too many signs of fallibility. But what did we expect? We have some terrific players and a great coach/manager, but not all 11 (or 18) are brilliant and some good ones aren't consistent, either because they're young, injured or old!

Most worrying is the possibility that teams are working out how to play against our marauding full backs.

I thought Beale's decision to bring on Armstrong when Roberts was injured was brave but probably wrong. We like him, he's got loads of potential, but he is very raw. And at a time when it was clear our midfield was struggling I think the wrong decision, but I know sweet FA so don't want to criticise Beale.

And we are still in the top 6 which I wouldn't have expected at the beginning of the season.

The Beale and end all? Column

Really informative and interesting piece setting out the hopes and risks. It is a risk, but as Clive says, it's the right risk.
I wonder how Ramsey, Hall, etc will take to a new guy with clear ideas about coaching which may be different to theirs?
And what's happened/going to happen to Eustace?

Out of the darkness cometh light - Report
at 18:13:35

Definite signs of light at the end of a grim tunnel. The energy and forward passing as Clive says a joy after some recent dross.

I hadn't noticed the argy bargy between Westwood and Dunne, but I don't mind that. I think it's a good sign, shows they care. Goalies are best placed to give 'constructive feedback' to defenders. In fact Seny should do more of it when he's back.

Thanks for a great report.

Second half slump incurs Warbs’ wrath — Report
at 19:12:13

This a test for Warburton and the coaching staff. How to restore morale and self belief. These aren't bad players. I think your point, Clive, about the impact of signing Hendrick is interesting, both in terms of morale, which we can only guess at, and position on the pitch. I think Field has got forward more in recent games, which maybe the plan, but we need him deeper.

Trying to find a positive thought maybe Hendrick is just taking time to get match fit and rediscover form. This afternoon I watched Kevin de Bruyne give a masterful display, but a few games ago pundits were saying he's not the player he was after his injury. They're not machines as Warbs says.

Thanks for the report and I thought your comments about Barbet and set pieces was remarkably restrained.

Paying dividends — Column
at 09:46:07

Very helpful and informative even though I'm not sure I understood it all! Very encouraging to see the progress the club have made in getting their finances under control, but the deferred FFP fine and repaying the EFL will obviously have an impact. Did the EFL make these loans from reserves or by raising cash on the money markets? If the former there may be scope for phasing the payments.

Will be very interesting, and as you say, tricky for the club to manage transfers out. I assume we'll have to realise one or two of our assets, partly to keep the conveyor belt moving, as well as maintain the better financial position. Inevitably some fans will complain - we've sold the wrong player, didn't get enough, lack ambition, etc - but difficult choices and of course some players will be getting restless or believe what their agents tell them about greener pastures.

QPR's slip continues, soundly beaten at Millwall - Report

At the beginning of the season if we'd been offered fourth place now we'd have snapped arms off. We're bound to have a bad patch and have been over-performing lately. I know it's hard but there's no alternative. Patience friends!
