We stayed in Spiez, which was half way between Interlaken and Thun. Regular trains to both. Great views over the lake and surrounded by mountains. We went down to the lake edge and swam almost every evening as it was 30 degrees the whole week.
Walks up in to the mountains was a great way to escape everything, including the heat!
To be honest we avoided Interlaken after a short wander around as even in late May it was heaving with tourists and the price of a normal meal out was insane. |

We did a holiday in Switzerland in May this year and managed not to come back bankrupt by finding a very reasonable priced AirBnB with a stunning view. We did all our travel there and back by train which other than the Eurostar on the way back at Paris went very smoothly. We booked quite far in advance too so it wasn't too costly and it was far less stressful than flying. Even at St Pancras there was barely a queue and we got through check in and baggage control in under 10 minutes. As I have got older I have found I really don't need to get somewhere as quickly as possible all the time. Enjoyed some tasty train snacks, read my book and enjoyed some beautiful views out of the window.
We stayed in a smallish town just far enough away from the stunning mountains near busy Interlaken but close enough that we could get there and do some mountain trails without too much bother. One of my favourite holidays in recent years. The amount of (very) affluent Asian and American tourists was interesting to see, they generally just dawdled around the mountain villages and craned their necks up at the stunning scenery without going anywhere remotely far having come so far to see it all. Each to their own I guess. We found that after following a trail for 5-10 minutes you could have all the amazing views all to yourself. You do have to plan things carefully though because it is REALLY expensive. The town we stayed at had a Lidl which was pretty handy for avoiding spending a small fortune every night on a 2 course meal. |

They have to do maintenance and upgrade work at some point, to be fair they plan it months in advance and publish it to the public 28 days ahead on their website.
Unfortunately they can only do so much work in the 3-4 hours at night when the current is switched off.
Although the upgrade and preparation work for the new Piccadilly Line trains is really dragging on. They keep finding all these safety issues, apparently the fleet they have ordered has got quite a few issues with it. |

It doesn't feel like a small minority any more.
You only have to look at the amount of people who push through the gates at tube stations. I see it at my local station without fail EVERY time I use the tube. Within a 30-60 second period me walking in, tapping through, I can guarantee some one has pushed though. So that number must be in the 100s just for that one station. Add to that the sheer number of people who vape whilst on the train itself.
To attack a member of the emergency services is disgraceful. The courts rarely dish out any kind of meaningful sentence to offenders either. |

Yes okay, you shouldn't walk unless you are given out but don't say I think I nicked it after the event. Just ingrains the cheat tag you already have. A world class batsman but he will always be tainted. |

For reference, a few years ago I bought a second hand Nikon D5500 camera (£200) and a 18-200mm lens (£180). It has been great to learn the process of taking a good photo and you really don't need the top of the range camera. A second hand DSLR like mine will take a fantastic photo. You could spend 4k on a brand new mirrorless camera and get almost the same results. Just depends if you are going to be taking photos that will be in a gallery on a huge scale. I would say not,
I got in to wildlife photos of birds, butterflies etc and got a 2nd hand 400mm lens for £350. It takes amazing photos, again, you really don't need to be spending £1000s over a very slight improvement on image quality.
I've found photography has increased my affinity to the natural world, made me appreciate things by slowing down and helped reduce my own stress/anxiety I have developed (no pun intended) over the last few years due to various life changing events. It's a great hobby and I recommend just getting your self a half decent 2nd hand DSLR to start with. |

Both England and France should just say, no thanks to FIFA and head off home. What are they going to do, fine them?
The players won't be bothered, the fans won't be bothered. Why play one game more in this corrupt organisations tournament?
Incidentally I haven't watched a single game of this World Cup, decided to avoid it all for various reasons and actually I don't feel like I have missed out on anything. |

To be fair, if it is actually possible to get the shirt without the sponsor, that all black kit could be a winner for me. Perfect for when I go out for a run (unless it's sunny, then maybe not!). I remember we played Blackpool at home once in 30 degree heat and they had an all black bin liner of a kit. We won 5-0 and at the time I thought that was surely a contributing factor! |

For what it's worth I already decided a few months back that I won't be watching this World Cup. I didn't watch a single game of the Qatar tournament either and actually didn't care.
This whole situation just confirms my decision.
Yes America and a lot of Americans are decent people but their current government and 'leader' are a total joke.
Trump said Somalia is barely a country and they run around killing each other. Has he looked at his own back yard and the number of mass shootings and death by guns?
I'm not going to put much more because much has already been said but I still think there needs to be solidarity over things like this. All the match officials should just refuse to referee the games. |

I wonder if we as fans have enough collective cash to buy out that sponsorship deal and get it replaced with the Grenfell Foundation charity.
Say 20,000 supporters, fans, friends and family donated on average £20 each. Would that be enough?
If there was enough interest I would love to be able to help make something like that happen.
Eliminates the need for us to be associated with another gambling company. Promotes a worthy and local cause and on a smaller level makes the shirt look a lot better and will give supporters a lot more pride to wear them. In fact, it would probably increase sales of the shirt fairly substantially. So the club benefits from this financially too. |

It would be totally insane.
They've now just told Middlesbrough that they are playing in what would be the biggest game of most if not all of their players. And for the club the biggest financial windfall and most importantly the fans, the biggest match and day out they will have for years, even decades.
They can't then suddenly snatch that back.
Here's a conspiracy theory. Tottenham finish 22nd but don't get relegated because they can't solve this playoff issue. The Premier League would love that. |

Why does the kick of time now change? Totally bizarre. Is that some sort of regard to Boro fans because they live further away?!
Tickets have now gone on sale to M'boro and Southampton fans are now getting refunds.
They can't then decide on appeal to suddenly allow Southampton to play in the final again.

I used to make up a bowl midweek, let it set in the fridge and then eat the whole thing whilst watching the Champions League on ITV. The days when football could be watched by everyone.
If I was feeling really flash I would top it with Smarties. Now in my early 40s I cannot believe how I don't have diabetes. |

Because my father lives in Cornwall and is terminally ill.
So I travel down at both planned and unplanned moments to be with him and where he lives there are 3 buses a day or something. He also doesn't have a car (can't drive now anyway).
My missus doesn't have a car either so between us we use it when we have to.
I have thought of selling it but at the moment it is a useful thing to have. I just never use it if I am going somewhere local.
I am not against having a car, for some people it is fairly essential and I am sure a lot of journeys made are unavoidable unless you can walk for hours or have a very good public transport connection for where you need to go.
I just think there appears to be a large number of people driving on the roads (at least in London) who take trips based on pure laziness, status or snobbery of public transport. Then complain when they are stuck in traffic. And this new trend for some people of having to have a large vehicle is just weird, especially if you live in London with tight roads and traffic jams. |

The USA are probably looking to get to the moon and mine the f*** out of it before any one else now that we've almost depleted the world's natural resources. It is believed it has a lot of precious metals and ore seeing as it is made up of a large chunk of material similar to here on earth. The current global agreement is no one can own land on the moon but if you are occupying an area of it in order to drill/mine/farm etc then no one is allowed to interfere with your operation.
But rather than seek out an alternative to the mess we've made we (and largely the USA) will continue with this linear route to plundering every possible resource until everyone has access to a 5 ton gas guzzling vehicle. That's progress, apparently. |

Another problem is the huge number of people who are entrenched in their world view that they must drive their huge SUV for less than a mile or two for any sort of mundane trip that you could walk in less than 20 minutes. No wonder the traffic is so bad and desire for fuel is high.
For example if you exit out of Harrow On The Hill station to the opposite side from the shopping centre at certain times of the day the short road in is totally blocked up despite double yellows on both sides. People, usually just one, sat in their huge vehicle with the engine running waiting to pick up someone off the tube.
I can walk home from there in 10 minutes yet I have neighbours who DRIVE to the station and back to pick up partners/kids etc. It's totally insane. There are about 15-20 different bus routes from the station if you really need them. I know they aren't always the best but they'd be much better if the roads were less clogged up.
I get some people have mobility issues or need a car for specific reasons but honestly I think most trips can be avoided. I have a car but I think I use it once a week if that. |

If they could prove that the cost is based on them providing fair wages and conditions for the people who actually make the shirts then maybe, maybe I would see it as a justifiable purchase if I knew it was going to help some one earn a fair living.
It's like coffee. I don't mind buying it at a slighter higher cost if I know it's been sourced ethically and the farmer is getting a fair chunk of the profit. I can't afford to make all my purchases with that ethos but I try where I can.
But Nike. Ha. Another scum multi-national corporation who exist just to make excessive profits that feed their shareholders. You would have thought a fairer price point means there would be a good balance where they still make a lot of profit but actually sell more kits so that more consumers can enjoy them, I guess not.
It doesn't matter to me what the England team wear anyway. I'm not going to watch a single World Cup match this year again. |

Just saw this has been voted for by the clubs and will come in to play next season, with a system which is currently in place in the conference league.
Obviously, this won't effect us and our usual season finish of 16th!
But I can't decide whether or not this is a good thing really. If you finished 3rd and a good number of points clear of 7/8th place and you lost to them in the final you would be pretty hacked off. But I guess those will now be the rules. |
