Nardi isn't playing well, but that goes for a lot of the team right now. Dunne, Varane, Vale, Kone have all regressed the last few weeks. It's a collective drop in form, Nardi is just a part of that.

Putting in an old man with as much time between the sticks as me the last few years would be drastic AF. He wasn't even that good to begin with.

The bed is made, Nardi is the guy until Jan at least.

He looks more like Josh Allen to me, been amazing so far and think Vrabel is a perfect fit there.

A better year than we're having in Washington... Injuries have been really bad but we've looked awful defensively. Lost 5 games total last season and already at that many by week 8 here...

Film 2025
at 13:57 29 Oct 2025

Obvs a series rather than a film, but I was really disappointed with this Ed Gein one. I thought Dahmer was great, and the brothers one just meh, but this seemed to be like an American Horror Story with too much artistic licence. I understand the angle, that he was like the Godfather and inspiration for the serial killer / shock horror genre, but I just didn't think it worked at all...

Keen on a cinema trip this week and Predator Badlands isn't out just yet, anyone seen anything good that's on now other than the Springsteen film? New Frankenstein worth a look?

I've also heard it's not great, but the issue seems to be more their decision to change the UI to fit more for a controller / console player, which seems a poor decision for me as it's always at it's core been a laptop or PC style gaming experience...

I'm tempted to try it but might wait a few weeks until updates kick in and fix some bugs, etc.

The Kone Kon-undrum
at 13:27 27 Oct 2025

Still only 22, a few years out of non league, playing at this level consistently for the first time in a team still figuring out its identity. The Derby miss was poor, but it's about the only chance he had and he got in the right area, which is the main thing.

His finishing will also improve. I think he can get better looking for the corners, etc and I think there will be times when he's allowed to be the lone striker and have more creativity behind/around him. The start might have set unrealistic expectations for some but he's still learning. I have no concerns with him at all.

This shows more of what I mean RE fullbacks. In the wrong quarter for both full backs, not enought that it's a huge issue, but something we can address in the future to help move into that top right section and be better on both sides.

Well it's not necessarily about inverted wingers, but we have a lot of players who want to be more central, and when that happens - specifically like it did against Millwall - we don't have the full backs to overlap and support from wide. It's not about protecting full backs, it's about full backs supporting wingers.

As for specific wingers. Saito, Chair, Smyth are all players whose typical position is LW but are right footed and like to come inside. Vale, Dembele, Poku are RW's who are left footed that like to drift centrally. So actually yes - we have focused more on inverted wingers. You could say that these players should just switch wings, but most were brought here or have played the majority of their games in the positions they're in.

Full back is a problem for how we're supposedly trying to play. We've recruited a lot of inverted wingers, but have exclusively defensive full backs or converted centre backs in the squad and when we have to rely on full backs for width, it falls down.

Not an immediate issue necessarily, but something to look at for next summer perhaps. We're still short the right personnel at full back and central midfield, imo.

QPR's road warriors sink ten-man Swans - Report
at 11:21 24 Oct 2025

As I said, I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm just not a 'win at all costs' person.

You can be aggressive and very physical at times, but don't deliberately injure a player. You can sit and defend deep to protect a lead, but don't play Paul Hart style abandon all attack for 80mins for the sake of protecting a small lead. You can provoke a reaction or get under someone's skin for an advantage, but don't pretend they've hit you and collapse clutching your face when there is no contact.

I want to see us win, of course, but I'd rather we did it the old fashioned way - by just being the better team!

My issue isn't specifically with Cook, it's with all of the fake injuries, theatrics and grabbing your face to con the ref stuff. Its embarrassing that these grown men and athletes collapse with the slightest of contact, let alone when there isn't any at all. Every week you see it and it's shameful.

There's a difference between going down with contact to win something you might otherwise not get from the ref if you stay on your feet, and falling to the floor like you've been glassed when another player gets close to you.

I don't care that it works in our favour, or that it's a 'if you cant beat them join them' thing. I don't like it in football at all, and especially not at QPR from your big centre half. Ironically it started because he went over to bollock him about diving, which I am all for!

As for the Smyth point, I completely agree and have pointed out the same in the past. He constantly tries to win free kicks or penalties even when he has the upper hand. It works against him often as he could almost definitely do more by staying on his feet and taking the opportunity that's there.

Great report as ever.

I personally think the Steve Cook thing is a disgrace and embarrassment to football, but feels like I'm in the minority as it went in our favour.

Still, 3 big points away and well earned. Roll on Derby

Exactly right, a big part of this is him actually putting it in and making the effort. Part of that is familiarity with the pace of the league, the physicality and the schedule, but ability alone doesn't move you from 0 tackles, blocks or interceptions in multiple games to the 10(!) recoveries last night.

Everything is going right at the moment and long may it continue!

Chair for No.10
at 12:27 23 Oct 2025

I love the idea of Saito, Chair and Poku all playing together behind a Kone/Burrell. All smart, good technically, can work in tight spaces, get in the gaps between centre back and full back, play on the line, and can alternate positions...

It'll be on a per game basis that you adjust, but I think it'll cause opposition all sorts of issues, especially at home, and gives you the chance to adjust into a more direct / 2.striker system if you want it.

I think away from home it's working great, but it's games where we have more control and possession that Chair and others will come into their own. Very nice problem to solve!

New pub ( never to replace the C&S) The Hawthorn
at 15:43 22 Oct 2025

Yeah Gerry knew how to run a pub, god rest him. The Crown has got slightly worse since, despite recent efforts to tart it up. The Thai kitchen has been knocking out the same menu of food for years, the beer is hit and miss, and they always seem so much happier about being a rugby pub than a football one. I think the seating is more limited now too, coinciding with increases numbers since they got Sky back.

All of that said, it's still the best pre and post match pub in the area for my money. The Shepherd & Flock is a better pub, the Askew too probably, but this is just like a comfy pair of slippers at this point and I hope it keeps going forever.
