For trying to rob and assault Mesut Ozil and his team mate, the culprits got ten years.

For killing his 17 year old girlfriend in a premeditated attack, the culprit got twelve years.

Who thinks either sentence is fair or reasonable?

in the first case, if the culprits are repeat offenders with a history of violence then it would seem reasonable, if 1st time offenders then a bit harsh

In the second case if it was premeditated rather than spur of the moment then it would seem a very light sentence especially as they will be out in 6 years if they behave

I was surprised to see that the lad who murdered his girlfriend was sentenced to 12 years. I would have thought a longer sentence was more appropriate given the circumstances of the case.

The sad fact is that they never seem to even serve half the sentence nowadays.

It was only last night that I realised that the lad who murdered his ex-girlfriend deliberately took a knife to her house when he knew she would be on her own.
You can't get more premeditated than that.
No spur of the moment crime of passion circumstances here.
He must have had a damn good brief.
In my view he should have got life with a minimum of twenty years.

Not specifically about this case, but victims (or their relatives, i believe) now have the right to appeal against a sentence they believe to be unduly lenient. There have been instances where the sentence has subsequently been extended
