Gilmour and Tobi and Pritch are vastly experienced players, the former two especially in this team.
The go-ahead goal on Saturday was 2 minutes after Hannant went off, JK came on and Morecambe skinned us at RWB position, cross came in, goal.
Decisive moment. Put Tobi there and less likely to happen.
Going forward Tobi is invaluable too. The link up with Gordon and East on that side was like clockwork. Visibly Gordon/Hannant is not working as it should as the verbal arguments showed after another attack breakdown.
So missing Tobi is affecting both defence and offence.
Co-incidence or not, York suffered v Gateshead when Kitching was out, conceding 3.

His play may frustrate but if the occasional joyous power bursts to break defensive lines became regular & he scored 20+ every season he wouldn't be a National League player. Equally frustrating you could say is Mani's current lack of hold up effectiveness or work out of possession - ditto above.
Disappointing as Friday was all in all we weren't as toothless against Morecambe as against Sutton but it's fine margins - we didn't covert good chances in the first 20 mins when we were dominant and we did try to block 2 of Morecambe's goals but the ball went through our defenders legs - it's football |
As with the majority of the season we've missed some great chances. Morecambe probably had 5 in the game and scored 4 of them. Unfortunately where earlier in the season we were conceding 0 goal or 1 at the most now we are conceding 2 or more and the missed chances are hurting us. |  |

Think there’s a lot of truth in that and also DDB’s point about the amount of opportunities we have that aren’t converted. This site’s Twitter account posted the stats for Friday’s game, Morecambe had 7 shots whilst we had 19.
There’s little doubt that we’re still very effective in the way we play to get into positions which give us the chance to score, we simply don’t convert those into goals enough. But it still shouldn’t detract from the fact that we lost on Friday because of how we defended, we are not as solid.
The wing-backs are vital, although do need to say it’s that York had Newby and Grey there at Gateshead. It was the omission of King on the right that probably cost them more and that Brookes is better defensively on the left. Kitching plays the Perry/Beckwith role on the left of centre. |  |

We haven't conceded due to a centre mid and a wide player not playing, we're conceding too frequently due to defenders not doing rank basic defending, blocking balls into our own box and schoolboy level tracking your runner and picking up your man in the box, again though too much attention has been put on the 'defenders' to pass the ball like a prime Rio rather than defend like a John Terry. |

He was choosing his words very carefully. He was emphasizing that the defending was poor "as a team". I was encouraged by that in that I think he was including the midfield rather than just the back 3. I don`t feel the East/Pettit/Moss axis really works, and it looked to me as though Hannant was under instruction to hold back. | | | |

agree with someone earlier your position now is the better one it will take the pressure off going into last few games and if you do stay 2nd from now to the end it will make it easier to take.
York will have the pressure knowing all it takes is too slip up, what are the run ins like for both clubs? i know you play each other last day.
their goal difference is like an extra point.

I agree, the absence of Tobi, Harvey and Pritch is a key factor (my words not yours ) as the three mentioned players all drive forward in and out of possesion whereas their replacements tend to receive the ball cut back and recycle thus putting added pressure upon the back three, also limiting an attacking outlet, this I suspect (it's been mentioned previously ) is partly responsible for Gordons recently drop in form ! |  | | |

It seemed clear that Gordon was berating Hannant for not recycling the ball back to him.
Hope BJ's able to defuse that, it's really not good

Yes its clear as day. We needed 3 goals to beat Brackley at home, We needed 3 goals to beat Tamworth at home, we needed 3 goals to try and draw with Southend away, we needed 2 goals to draw with both Halifax and Scunthorpe away and we needed 3 goals on Friday to draw with Morecambe (I'm saying had we got a 3rd to equalise they wouldn't have broke away for their 4th). Unless we seriously stop this we won't even get to a title decider v York. | |

Prior to the Halifax game we were limiting teams chances due to the defensive work of the midfield and the wide players.
Players like Gilmour, Toni and Prichard were breaking down attackes before they got to the back three. The replacements have just not been effective defensively. gordon has certainly suffered a lack in form since Tobi has been absent.
We play a very high line and if the midfield and wide players don’t press it allows teams to hit us in the break putting the back three under pressure. The second and third goals yesterday were came from players arriving into the box and not being tracked.
I firmly believe getting our first 11 back defending as a team will improve results. The energy that players like Gilmour, Tobi and Prichard bring is bound to be missed. I cant see what else has changed in the last month that has caused a team to concede 17 goals since halifax? [Post edited 5 Apr 19:15]

We are still creating plenty this could have easily been 4-4..
Snatching at chances and returning to being pretty wasteful in front of goal.. wide / high or both!!
This can still go to the wire…. Obviously a win today would help that cause.
