The finale is in huge danger of being a celebratory stroll for York

Not sure how many non-regulars who've bought tickets would bother turning up in those circumstances... but we're not at that stage yet

The fall-off in form of at the back end of our 2009/10 campaign, whilst disappointing, came after securing promotion. I've said all along that unless we finish top of the pile, i really don't fancy our play-off chances

Not conceding today (first game in six) at least halts that particular slide. How the hell do we get our mojo back, though? Surely Hendo has to start against Wealdstone, as much as anything to try to help rejuvenate Mani D by playing him in with intelligence

It started before securing promotion.

We were shocking for weeks before beating Northampton. Two terrible performances at Chesterfield and Torquay and a beyond awful display at home be Darlington who were already down.

Henderson needs to start instead of Mani because we need a centre forward who offers movement. Unless the latter recovers his fitness/form in training.

York scoring doesn’t change the point being earnt. We would have to win last day.

Of course it means we have to win the next two, but that was always going to be the case.

We’ve 99 points playing the way we do. I know you want to find a way to blame McNulty, but it’s not about how we play because that has proven to be successful. It’s the personnel choices and performances that need looking at. We tried to go direct today and were let down by our main striker offering nothing.

Wonder what they do in training? Were you wondering two weeks ago?

As was pointed out 2/3 months ago, it needs supporters to support and keep their head as much as well as the players and management keeping theirs. Chuck in the towel now if we want, but imagine if we knew those at the training ground do the same.

Will ask the same question that got ZERO response after the Sutton game: people talk about a Plan B. What does this look like?

At least offer an alternative idea.

The opportunity for plan B has slipped when the window closed. Cian Hayes type player is exactly what this team needs. Distinct lack of pace and skill at the moment which sometimes it’s that individual brilliance which can just unlock a result. We don’t even look to counter attack because we don’t have the pace to carry the ball.

Absolutely agree the team has played a way all season and it’s been mainly down the channels. It’s this area where it’s gone wrong which has seen us try go down the middle more and Rodney is on his holidays and Mani is having a go at mimicking Mitchell.

Perry isn’t Beckwith and Gordon’s form has dropped without TAR. I think we will find a rhythm again but run out of games in doing so.

The reality back then was that promotion was never really in doubt, and the resulting easing off not a crucial factor. The win against Northampton was just a matter of when, not if

Citing that example, as you did the other day, adds zero to the current end of season, except as a truism that sometimes teams run of steam. The reasons are various, not comparable

Would totally agree.

We’ve missed that pace of TAR carrying the ball and Allarakhia to a lesser extent in the left. We carried on getting results for a long time with Moss out there but once everyone’s levels dropped a bit it’s started to cost us.

We’re a functional team that has been extraordinarily successful. Without that individual pace and brilliance - something Rodney can offer but unfortunately hasn’t - we look restricted.

It’s even further restricted when the focal point is not fully fit-badly off form. The out ball is gone. McNulty addressed that by brining Dieseruvwe in, his subsequent signing of Duku hasn’t provided an alternative.

Those last couple are on the manager for not making changes/bringing in the right player.

Glad you noticed. So it didn’t come “after securing promotion”. It started before. Which was the point. It happens.

Football teams have dips. Best to carry on supporting and hope this season ends better than 09/10.

If nothing else, we know this team has the capability to win football matches.

And as poor as today was, that’s where I am too. Hopefully everyone at the club as well.

We were defensively better today and played no worse than at Sutton when all was right with the world at full time.

The lack of conviction in the final third is a major concern though.

Yes,I agree, that if we win the final three games, we are up, but we need a manager to realise his mistakes and attack with pace and purpose, because we have nothing to lose now in not doing so. Sadly I cannot McNulty changing anything.

Five days until the next game then two full weeks. The squad needs energising. Hopefully Tobi and Gilmour can add that. Match York's next two game and winner takes it all.

I agree. The depressing aspect is that you just sit and wait for York to score. Knowing damn well they are peppering the opposition week after week. They are going for it and they deserve it. Attack is the best form of defence always has been and always will be. I think they have had more shots today than we have had in a month and that’s without one of their strikers.

Our lack of shooting is actually coached, it can’t not be? It’s the aim of the game!

As someone said, win the next three, and we are up with that important point, and in ours, as well as York's hands.

Hartlepool edged that in performance and felt they were the better side. Felt more chances to score.

Be patient, and the goals will come, feels like the mantra preached.

Too much patience.

Such a shame we are unravelling at the end now, looking like a team ready for the beach. They aren't, though, just too patient and nice to the opposition. I imagine if we had scored, there would be incredible scenes again.

In the final 3rd, back the ball go's.

I don't know if Jim is firing his players up with enough rhetoric during the crunch games. It always seems the opposite teams become the alpha. but need a sprinkle of bravery and creativity. Link up with midfield and vice versa. Trust each other.

Henderson looked like our best player, bright and enthusiastic again and gave me hope when coming on. Mani D looked lacklustre especially in the first half and shame it was another case of Mcbride passing when just the keeper to beat.

While I too agree we are better when we attack with pace, it’s reliant on having players having the right options. We know how Moss limits that at wing back, and we’ve discovered how much the way we play is reliant on a central striker who provides an outlet. It was proven last season with Bird and this season when Dieseruvwe arrived. Even when Henderson is there it works to an extent.

We are suffering because players aren’t playing as well. Yes, the manager (and his coaching team when it suits) should be better at recognising those out of form could do with time off the pitch, but individuals have to look at themselves too.

On the shooting, we always take one touch too many. It’s so frustrating. That said we had 19 shots v Morecambe and didn’t score enough.

On repeat, we should have a ‘midfield three, two up front option’. That’s offering a Plan B.

My concern too. The players look tired and have for a while, after months of looking calm and comfortable in what they are doing. A reinvigorating win could change it all - against Morecambe they looked full of energy before the equaliser. Pressure is a strange thing.

Don't know if it will make a difference but York K.O at 12:30 Saturday whereas we're 5:30 so marginally more recovery time. If they slip up it will be a huge psychological boost but likewise if they get the job done the pressure really will be on.

Didn’t attempt to add anything. Quite clear in what occurred previously and how football teams, Dale specifically in this case, are affected by pressure.

Still, it did correct a factual error.

If you were there, which i'm pretty sure you were, there was no error in using the term "secured" as a descriptive term rather than a pedantic mathematical certainty

It's the same, for instance, as having a "secure" defence, which obviously doesn't mean never conceding a goal, if the term were to be taken literally

We've had a secure defence all season until the injuries, although mental tiredness and nerves come into it too. The pressure has been relentless, a campaign like no other and whatever the outcome, one we'll be talking about for years, when perceptions will be salient, as ever

I recall the dismay as we threw away the chance of winning the title and nervousness around Spotland as each game passed. There was also a lot of criticism of the manager for suddenly going all reserved in how we set up by playing a three man midfield - albeit a tactic he was looking at ahead of the following campaign which served us well in L1.

It is indeed difficult to compare any season to another, only find some similarities in reference points. Would take stumbling across the line this time around too. For that to happen, everyone needs to raise their levels and try and remove doubt.

"That said we had 19 shots v Morecambe and didn’t score enough."
A lot of them were after those extra touches, or an extra pass, allowing defenders to get a block in.

The theme I get from player and manager interviews seems to be "waiting for the next moment" but at this point of the season players need to be busting a gut to go and force the next moment. I didn't see much evidence of that today in the second half.

On to Saturday and to get behind them again at a time we can afford to be be nothing less than perfect.

Yeah, it’s one area where we’ve been lacking all season - being totally ruthless when we’ve created a good situation to score. They’ve often seem to need to have more courage in their convictions to get a shot off quickly. Well, apart from Mani who is excellent at it.

As fans we were pretty much unanimous about that, even when we were winning every game. Not sure what the answer is apart from the players and management team now realising the next moment could be the last moment.

Looking at the bigger picture, this squad misses a Roberts/Nolan if we want to play with three forwards. A player who looks to get shots off as well as create. It was the one reason why trying Allarakhia more there could have worked because he does like to shoot when the opportunity arises.

Like it or not and yet so desperately wanting to see us return to the football league this season, I am afraid that I have to allow a personal reality to kick in. Watching the last 15 minutes of our game at Hartlepool and the last 15 minutes of Yorks game today have left me in no doubt which team will go on and become Champions. The contrasting approach in the two games was there for all to see. The way we played has been sussed and used against us in all our matches recently. We are no longer a team to be feared we do not put teams to the sword in the same way York do. The opposition are happy to let us play around at the back and build our attacks slowly using up countless minutes of game time. York by contrast attack often and quickly and sustain that pressure throughout. Their style gradually puts fear and desperation into the opposition whereby ours makes them feel they are still in the game and have a chance. Unfortunately, although we have picked up so many points playing this way this season it is not a style that is suited to the sudden death nature of playoff football. Whether it be a one off game with York or a playoff match at home I fear we have not got what it takes mentally or physically to win those types of game. We are deservedly guaranteed a home playoff place so time will tell. I hope so much that I am wrong and that the management, players and supporters get a reward for the magnificent season they have had. It would be so sad to end in disappointment for the second season running.

And there was me thinking it was Rodney’s inconsistency that that frustrated fans, but in fact he is consistently poor. Can’t have that. He was an asset in our run of games against the best in the league. Especially the game against Scunthorpe at home, and as recently as the Southend encounter some Southend supporters were wishing they had him in their squad.

Still loving this season, and the way this side has stuck to this cause regardless of the circumstances that have confronted them. It’s now a 3 game shoot out for the title. I would definitely have taken that on December 6th when Beckwith and Mani both picked up serious injuries.
