Yes, performances need to improve. After a weeks rest i'm confident they will. The work load isn't heavy now, there's rest between games and the players now have clarity of mind. It's 100% in our own hands, we aren't relying on anybody else. We have a lot of very good players and form can come and go in the blink of a eye, that also applies to our opponents over the remaining fixtures which needs to be remembered. Nerves will affect all the play off teams but the pressure to keep winning every week has been with us all season so maybe we will handle them better in that scenario if it comes to it. York will be just as nervous as us, probably more so, if we can take it to that last game.
Maybe something different might be needed, some out of the box thinking to give everybody a mental boost. There are two people who have recently done this and got us over the line and they are friends of the manager and all the coaches, they are inspirational speakers and a different voice. Invite Hill and Flitcroft to come down to the training ground and give the players a inspirational talk, they will be able to identify with how the players feel and i'm sure they'll inject plenty of humour and lighten the mood. When things are getting tough there's nothing wrong with calling up your mates to help out a bit. Never be too proud to ask.

It wouldn't undermine McNulty, the games moved on since Hill was manager and tactically McNulty could probably tie them both up in knots now. They are both completely different characters to him though and Flitcroft in particular has loads of fire in his belly. They could take the players on a journey with tales of how the club was and how they changed the mindset and gave everybody belief, how they can go one better and do something they couldn't do, win some silverware. Two Dale legends who can command a room and are respected throughout the game. Friends of the manager and coaches. |  | | |

Whilst i appreciate the thinking around this i personally wouldn't have Hill or Flitcroft around the club at the moment..Jim and his staff have taken us to game 45and id hate for others to cloud the waters in anyway.
Jim knows these players inside out ..i don't think a motivational ex member of staff has any understanding of the present playing staff.

Yes, there are two ways of looking at it. A realisation that the players from every other club fighting for promotion will also be feeling the same way is also needed. It's not unique to our set of players and we have plenty of experience in the squad and in the dug out. This is what the players have worked so hard for, mental and physical tiredness is normal at the end of the season and it's what you have to handle to be successful as a professional sportsman, especially if you want to play at a higher level. York were pre-season favourites to win the league, they blew it last year having spent a lot of money. I'd suggest their players will be under more pressure than ours should it come down to that last game. [Post edited 16 Apr 10:44]

Your last point really should be taken into account by our management and players, to try to offset some of our own nerves
The general point about not introducing anyone from outside the group also makes sense, particularly since you disagreed with my point last week about giving even Done and Taylor a greater say in motivating the team! |  |

I made the point that if Done and Taylor weren't making any difference from last season, they might as well not be here. Of course, they have made a difference, so it wouldn't be a case of "isolating" the head coach, simply allowing them to add greater emphasis to the difference they've already made | |
