TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Wealdstone on 13:27 - Apr 13 by Daley_Lama

There was a small number of boos near me in TDS at half time. Facebook/Twitter full of it.

If you have nowt to say they say nowt is my viewpoint. In person or on social media. It achieves nothing, can only cause harm.

If we go up or not, this season will go down as my favourite and management and team deserve 100% support come what may.

Bang on!

The players and managers have so much to be proud of - whatever happens - which is why they need to leave everything on the pitch the next two games. Go for it. No fear. What will be will be. Don't die wondering what if. If we fall short, we go again and do it at Wembley (on my birthday!)

All this goes to the supporters too. I know its great when the team give us something to cheer but sometimes when things are hard they need to know we've got their back. Sing loud, sing proud and sing non-stop.

Agree with your observations on Moss and Smith. I rate Moss but the team can only attack down one side of the pitch when he's playing which makes us very predictable and easy to defend against. Smith is a impact sub, he doesn't appear to have the energy levels to start games. It looks like Gilmour and Tobi have been rushed back also.

When the dust has settled on the season i think key injuries over the last few months have really impacted us and shouldn't be underestimated. When you're missing players like Tobi, Gilmour, Beckwith, Pritchard, Rodney, Mani for extended periods of time then results are bound to suffer a bit. All compounded by playing fixture catch up following the implosion of the pitch. A lot of those were high pressure games in a short period of time. If we do pull up short this season i think the problem with the pitch will be the biggest reason and we're probably still suffering with injuries and fatigue as a result of it now, both directly and indirectly.

The mental effect on the players also needs to be recognised...training all week, getting yourself mentally prepared for games, will the game be on or off? The mindset of playing a home game at Accrington. Not playing a home game for weeks and weeks. If you put all of that together it's a fantastic effort by the players , manager and coaches. That's why they owe it to themselves to go out over these remaining games and play without fear, they deserve to win this league.

100 percent agree with the point about the injuries having effect.

At the turn of the year we had played 22 games and scored 52 points. But that was over a five month period with Beckwith, the only real injury llng term injury. Mani d was also out a short while.

Between the 17th January (our first league game of 2026) and Saturday we played 22 games and scored 50 points, that in a period of just over 2 1/2 months. That will have contributed to the injuries and tiredness we are seeing, and if anything we should be applauding the playing staff for maintaining the high standards.

Yes there is frustration in the drop of in form at the wrong time of the season but that doesn’t justify some of the levels of criticism thats been given.

Credit also needs to be given to York who have sustained a relentless pursuit and kept the pressure on. If a few close results had gone our way they may have fell away. The four games that spring to mind are York v Hartlepool, Rochdale v Scunthorpe, Morecambe v York, Halifax v York. 3 late goals and a ref cock up that had the luck had fallen our way would have put us well clear, before the injuries/ form struck. Who knows York may have lost momentum, instead its been with them since.

However football is not what ifs! Any of us would would have taken this position at the start of the season, and while we do need to reflect on the factors that have caused us to fall away slightly, that is for another time. Everyone should be focused on what positive contributions they can make to ensure we can get two more positive results.

While it’s obvious pressure and tiredness is impacting performance, there still looks to be a real belief in the players and staff.

If individual fans choose to have doubts, however valid, that’s up to them. This team has already proved the doubters wrong by getting this far and they have everyone willing them on to complete the job.

Just deal with the Braintree game. It's a game we should win but there are no 100% given's in football - then the biggest single game in our history (probably). York aren't super human - there is no reason we can't beat them at home - yes they are a good side but so are we, and the fact we most probably will have to win the game may suit us on the day.

Agreed this Saturday is the biggest game of the season so far..

Hopefully that’s not the case at FT on Saturday.

I am confident the players and management are fully focused on Braintree Town.

There are a maximum of four games left this season and there is only one of them that would bring deep disappointment to me in terms of progression, that would be game three. No defeat is good though. No matter what happens over the first two games, it's been a tremendous effort from the players and manager, in a normal season we would have been league champions but York have managed to chase us all season. We've set the pace not them and we probably should have won the league by now, that's why i dont blow smoke up Yorks backside and put them on a pedestal. They're lucky to still be in it and we are good enough to beat them at home if we need to do.

Game four would be a 50/ 50 game at Wembley but it would be progression from last season in the Play Offs. Losing game three would feel terrible, a lot of hard work for nothing irrespective of the points tally, in fact that would compound the disappointment.

The players mindset should be that there are still four games left, not two, that would cushion the disappointment if we don't win the league over the first two games. We're in a great position, two chances to win promotion over the last four games of the season. Throw everything at the next two games in the knowledge that we have the insurance policy of another two games in the play offs to win promotion should we need them. That mindset takes some pressure off the players against Braintree and York.

As it stands there is one certainty, we have to win one home to go to Wembley if we don't win the league..

All good thoughrs TS but the pressure on the players and the nervousness in the crowd in a first playoff game would be ramped up even beyond anything we're experiencing right now

Everyone knows that. Last season was an opportunity; this time the fear of failure would be multiplied even beyond the added pressure that losing the FA Trophy semi-final beforehand brought to the Southend fixture

This is all happening because we've proven ourselves to be a very good team: too good for this league, in fact. The points total we're proud of confirms that. Less accomplished opposition teams - and their fans - can sense we're there to take a pop at, an almost unheard of scenario in our history, and a hurdle we've never overcome

I, like everyone else, understand how little these words count when the players step out onto the pitch

If we do end up in one, for me the level of nervousness in a playoff semi, will depend on how we perform in these next two games.

What fans need to do is dismiss thoughts of ‘we deserve to go up’ and replace with ‘we can go up’ That’ll sort the nerves out.

The last few months has seen comments about 100+ points, 3up, how unfair etc. Not on here but elsewhere. Counts for nowt.

If we don’t go up, we’ll have a darned good go again next season. Quality squad.

Yes, performances need to improve. After a weeks rest i'm confident they will. The work load isn't heavy now, there's rest between games and the players now have clarity of mind. It's 100% in our own hands, we aren't relying on anybody else. We have a lot of very good players and form can come and go in the blink of a eye, that also applies to our opponents over the remaining fixtures which needs to be remembered. Nerves will affect all the play off teams but the pressure to keep winning every week has been with us all season so maybe we will handle them better in that scenario if it comes to it. York will be just as nervous as us, probably more so, if we can take it to that last game.

Maybe something different might be needed, some out of the box thinking to give everybody a mental boost. There are two people who have recently done this and got us over the line and they are friends of the manager and all the coaches, they are inspirational speakers and a different voice. Invite Hill and Flitcroft to come down to the training ground and give the players a inspirational talk, they will be able to identify with how the players feel and i'm sure they'll inject plenty of humour and lighten the mood. When things are getting tough there's nothing wrong with calling up your mates to help out a bit. Never be too proud to ask.

Unless of course Braintree's keeper has been playing like Banks, Shilton, Seaman, Buffon, Schiemecel (sic) and Cech combined.

It comes across that the players do have belief but the extra bit of impetus having 100% of the fanbase fully behind them, especially if things aren't looking positive on the pitch could be what pulls them over the line.

We have already progressed though TS as we with 2 games to go still in with a chance of winning the National League.

Game one would bring me most disappointment.. the chance probably gone to have that final shot of glory… losing in game 2 (York) not so much..

Not even thinking about play off scenarios yet and neither should the players or management.

100% focus and effort on Saturdays performance to get the desired result.

We can’t be certain, in fact all of the assumptions made over the course of the season remain just that, but it’d be a reasonable guess that the players have more belief in their ability to win football matches than some fans. Even when they’ve played badly (and those games can be counted on the fingers of one hand), they’ve kept going relentlessly.

This particular assumption would be based on how they’ve found so many ways to win over the last 8 months. If people want to doubt/boo/panic or anything else potentially negative, that’s up to them. It won’t help much but at the same everyone feels differently.

In my opinion, this squad deserves trust and support, it’s earnt it.

Correct. Which is why the manager was also right to mention it and why it was so positive to see the response in the Sandy on Saturday when we were 1-0 down. So noticeably positive that it deserved a mention straight away in this thread.

Yes, i've witnessed all of that too

DL is still incorrect in his assertion that "what fans need to do is dismiss thoughts of ‘we deserve to go up’ and replace with ‘we can go up' "

It's far more likely the vast majority are capable of holding both thoughts in their head

And that's not why a few fans were booing at half time, hence my reference to a straw man argument

It wasn’t a comment on what Lama had posted. More an assessment of the general situation.

In a further assessment of the general situation…

People have been wrong on here a lot. Nowt, er, wrong with that, especially when it’s acknowledged. When it can’t be particularly established (how people may/may not feel or think), it’s a matter of personal opinion. When it’s established with facts (say a list of “big” games we have done well in) then it’s up to the person who’s wrong to have the grace to say so.

But again, that’s on individuals.

What we are seeing on a national and global scale in things like politics/sport/wars etc is a culture where people will ignore a subject when they’re proven to be wrong. One need only look at the White House to witness this play out daily. The world is certainly not a better place for it.

Back to Dale, it’s only an opinion, but I’d wager that we will benefit if everyone chooses to follow the suggestion from James over the next 2/3/4 games.

No need to look at the White House, there's plenty of examples of such things happening much closer to home, but let's not go there... even though we're here, if you see what i mean

Just for the record, my take is that the half time boos were due to fans having the very belief that DL says they ought to have, but had witnessed a first half where they didn't see the same conviction on the pitch. That changed of course, but whether you were commenting on DL's point or not, this is how this discussion has arisen, and i just think it's worth putting the record straight

I agree, it'd have been better for the boos not to have happened

To be the honest i thought the comments from McNulty in his post match interview was a deflection tactic to avoid talking about what was another poor performance. There have been a few lately but fortunately the never die spirit saw us turn two of those games around at Sutton and against Wealdstone. Had we lost both of those games nobody would havd said we didn't deserve it. There were isolated boos in the Pearl street at half time but mainly from the area near to the main stand, not sure about the rest of the ground because it didn't sound significant enough to really notice. We've probably had a extra 600 new fans in the ground recently, they will have expected to have seen a better performance than the last couple of home games, maybe they contributed to the boos or whatever else the manager heard to annoy him.

There's no disputing that the last two home performances have been poor though if you have recently started attending games. They might have expected better from a top team having paid a lot of money to watch the game. Fans voicing their displeasure at games if they perceive performances to be poor is normal, it happens at every ground in the country, it's never been any different so i don't know why it upsets so many people. Probably 95% of the crowd did what they normally do and just accepted that sometimes we don't play well. We have some fans who shout their displeasure even when we're playing well. We also have fans who constantly shout abuse at the officials when they've done nothing wrong. Some give no verbal support at all and spend more time on their phone, we have a smorgasbord of fans. We're not all clones thankfully. It's a crowd of 3000, it's not worth making a big deal about it but as pointed out, verbal abuse and booing at games can only be a negative. The support this season both home and away has never been better, not even under Keith Hills reign and it's been immense in the Pearl Street, the U Block have been referenced many times by the manager and the players. I anticipate that stand will be on another level next season as more people want to be where the noise is.

While i'm at it, if it comes down to the York game then we need to turn Spotland into a caldron of noise, that means the main stand needs to make some serious noise also. We have to make it intimidating for Yorks players and not a friendly, passive atmosphere. This would be the game we've always dreamed of, the chance to be league champions, a chance for the players to go up into the Directors Box and lift a Trophy for the first time in the clubs history. Every fan can play their part in that by getting behind the team from the first minute and believing that we are capable of doing exactly what Gateshead did last month, beating York.
