Whilst I agree, after the Carlisle game they’d come up with a plan that involved keeping away fans away from the first few rows, as well as central to the stand away from each Dale end of the ground.
Against Darlington (and Fulham on 9/11) away fans were housed at the Sandy end of the Willbutts which would have involved a whole different plan to do the same again.

This level of segregation is completely disproportionate and like nothing I have ever seen before in English football. We could definitely have split the stand and still allowed sufficient segregation to satisfy GMP. This is a club-led decision. | | | |

The noise from the 3 home stands will be loud.. especially if we can get the important first goal.

There's no doubt that's a big part of it, as was explained at the fans forum.
Anyone who was at the Spennymore game and the Oldham game a couple of seasons ago however will realise and appreciate the common sense decision the club have made re the Wilbutts.
Sadly we ourselves still have a sizable minority of the usual idiots who I have no doubt whatever the result on Saturday will spend 90 % of their time directing their attention towards the away fans. Putting the away fans out of sight has worked at other clubs (ie Oldham) in reducing flashpoints, and negating the effect of a noisy following and I personally see the sense in Dale following suit.
Certainly in a game like this the logistics of a segregated Wilbutts would be ridiculous and frought with risk. | | | |

Netting the Wilbutts to stop issues with the York fans is not a bad idea. We don't want pitch encroachments and the problems that brings with fines etc. York fans have behaviour issues too - their club has had to make plenty of statements about fan behaviour this season. Keeping them away from the ends of the Wilbutts stand and the front of the stand is probably a good idea.

It’s very unfortunate that so many folk miss out. But the arrangement is there for the right reasons. Keeping away fans from the touch line, Dale fans behind both goals is potentially advantageous. Maybe if we got bigger crowds all the time, we could use the willbutts. But we don’t so it’s not going to work as a one off. The spennymoor game was proof of why things are the way they are. Up the Dale! | | | |
