Nets what's turned out to be the winning goal tonight, taking West Ham into 4th place

I'm wondering if this is the highest league position of any team he's played for?

It might even be the highest league position of any team with an ex-Daley playing?

Seems to be playing as well if not better than ever too

Off the top of my head, did Liverpool get higher in the league with Lambert playing? It's a stretch to claim Lonergan at Liverpool counting as he never played for them in the league.

Think that was 14/15 when Liverpool were mid table most the season?

West ham fans were not happy about Craig signing , but I told the ones I am in contact with that he is perfect fit.
Proved right and now the fans have taken him to their hearts. They love his no nonsense defending , the way he always talks to those around him, even on his debut. He gets stuck in , been MOM at least once and pushed close for another. Told them he would also get goals if set pieces keep coming.
Really pleased for him. He could become another West Ham hero like Dave Cross and Alan Taylor.

It was. I suspect Lambert probably reached higher during his time at Southampton.

Tangled up in blue.

I cherished thoughts of Dawson returning home like the prodigal son to finish his career with us. The way things are going he will be forty before his standards drop to our level.
Dream on!!!!

That's good to hear

He spent a fair chunk of his career being asked to play fullback (at WBA), then turned up at a struggling Watford. No wonder Hammers fans were dubious, but perhaps he just needed someone to put him in his right position in a team that wasn't perpetually struggling

Norwich had a good run one season when Holt was leading their line...saw him tying Man Us defence in knots at Old Trafford, but not sure they ever got as high as fourth place.

Ricky played for Saints for five seasons between 2009-14

First two of those were in the third tier, the third in the Championship and the final two saw them finish 14th & 8th in the Premier League. I'd be surprised (unless it was within the first handful of games) if they featured in the top four

I might be wrong, but I think that last season they were in and around the top 4 for a long time under Pochettino before falling away around February.

Just had a quick skim through and they were 3rd after 11 games but then fell away a bit earlier than I remember as they were in mid-table seven games later.

Checking the 11v11 website, after 12 games their record was:

W7 D4 L1 - at that point they were fifth!!

They then lost 5 of the next 8

Edit: just seen your post above - that's it then, third's probably the best one of our exes has achieved!

You only posted so you could mention a former Spurs manager...

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

1990/91
Division 1
1st Arsenal
2nd Liverpool
3rd Crystal Palace (Captain, Geoff Thomas)

Thought John Pemberton might have made it two ex-Daleys, but he was sold to Sheff U in summer 1990..

And going one better than Geoff Thomas, full back Tommy Mort was sold by Dale to Aston Villa in 1922. He played there until 1935. Villa finished second in both 1930/31 and 1932/33.

Cheers.

Billy Whitehurst only had a few games for Liverpool in 1928/29 after leaving Dale. They ended up fifth. Good effort, but not even the top Daley that season as Villa and Tommy Mort were third!

I certainly do.

Wouldn't have minded seeing Billy W in a Dale shirt, though. A pretty good footballer as well as being big and hard as nails.
