Looks like it may be the end of the road. They night they spanked us at Spotland is now but a distant memory.

The drop in TV revenue is a scary amount.

United's income stream from that source dropped from around £717,000 in League Two to £280,000, which included a one-season parachute payment.

That's a Nadriello, Mills and Grimes per season! #obsessed

To think that just one week's salary for Wayne Rooney could secure their season and probably their future.

It's sick.

I thought exactly the same thing. You're right, it is sick.

They ain't the first, they won't be the last. Dropping out of the FL can kill a club very quickly. Those crowd stats are scary. Half the crowd disappearing in four years.

don't see the relevance of Rooney's wage in this. It's an easy excuse for clubs to hide behind.

A club will to a certain extent be able to predict its income over a season. It can only be boosted by cup runs / player sales etc. It's the outgoings that have put them where they are.

If a club has to pay a maximum of £200 per week and rely on twelve month contracts just to survive, then they have to do that. Should we get promoted, we'll be paying what we can afford not what is the going rate for League One.

If you gave every club in League 2 a million quid every year, there'd still be exactly the same number of clubs in financial trouble, just with the same old players on higher wages.

My point was, that for the sake of 1 weeks' income for a single player, for the same amount of money a whole company and all the many employees could possibly be saved from oblivion and the dole queue.

It simply illustrates the complete disparity between top level football and those doing the same job elsewhere.

It's not meant to be a criticism of Rooney taking the money or an endorsement of the way that Hereford United has been run. It's simply an illustration of the differences between the 'haves' and 'have-nots' in English football.

The 3-1 defeat there at the back end of our promotion campaign was as drab as they come. A lovely sunny day, great stopover in Hereford sampling the local ciders but a truly awful game on a bone dry pitch, watched from a stand not much better than the cattle pens in the livestock market nearby. A definite air of terminal decline even then.

The 4 - 4 draw I saw there was one of the better away days for Dale. Even the referee was applauding at the end.

Used to love the Hereford bull being paraded round the touchline and the logo for Sun Valley foods on the players shirts................involving beef products of course ! Good job the bull never realised.

I dont blame Rooney either but if I were a shareholder I would be wanting to know which idiot agreed to pay him.
Clearly the Premiership takes too much money out of the game and I think the amount it pays into the lower leagues pot has actually decreased over time as earnings have gone up.

They should be paying £100m a year into grass roots football rather than supporting relegated teams. That would pay for 150 3G/4G pitches a year and the effect on the technical aspects of our game at junior levels would be huge. Meanwhile local players continue to struggle on Firgrove and the like. Utterly scandalous

Well said 49th i could not agree more....
There is not enough money dropping down the leagues and i cant see it changing TBH...
Grassroots level will take years to sort even if the money was forth coming.....

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds
