British police 01:44 - May 22 with 2133 views | Bicester_North | Not sure how they have been so heavy handed and over the top at football, yet when there’s disorder on the streets lately such as in Swansea the other day, or in some of the London or Glasgow incidents, they seem to back off and leave the rioters to it Even in the 80’s when there were riots quite a lot I don’t recall the coppers running away even if they took a lot of injuries Not saying policing is easy, but have they got soft? In this Swansea riot nobody seemed to have any fear whatsoever of them. Yet at football they were top heavily nicking and/or tw@tting people for any slight sign of bother.

Yes Theresa May's so called legacy. They do seem to go for non politically sensitive targets these days though, and as a result levels of disrespect for authority, common decency and the law are increasing rapidly. Just as an example, I just saw the headline article on the online Daily Echo this morning about the mob of 'teenagers' (or whatever they're called these days)causing chaos in Royal Victoria Park and leave piles of litter and crap on the ground. Where's the police? Yet if it was a normal Saturday with saints at home, there would 40 plus coppers at the ground. Easy to confront football fans, but not a mob of disrespectful, obnoxious, arrogant dickheads.
British police on 10:03 - May 22 with 1926 views | kingolaf | Law and order is an absolute joke in this country. The force has been politicised by successive governments. Their main remit should be stop crime and protect the public. It all started with Blunkett’s PCSO’s, and has been royally mucked up since then.

Our local PCSO’s used to be very good. The numbers have been cut back no and we rarely see them any more.

British police on 12:24 - May 22 with 1825 views | Saintsforeverj | Every time there is large scale disorder, whenever the police have got "heavy handed", they have been criticised, with officers ending up in court. So the police stand back and just contain because they are scared of the consequences, yes for upholding the law. So we will see more and more of this. It doesn't matter how many officers we have, they are all walking on egg shells, worried about harming a rioter and then losing their job or worse. In the 80's police were able to do their job, as were teachers and others. It's now about using a different, less confrontational approach, and people take advantage. [Post edited 22 May 2021 12:28]

Absolutely, it's more about it being a lose-lose situation for the police. Get involved and they get criticised and hauled over the coals. Sit back and it's chaos. Get involved with football fans and no one cares. It's also the traffic police, where are they now?? Local police stations being shut doesn't help and that started many years ago. Get them back open, get a few police walking / cycling locally on the beat and away from paperwork. The Swansea thing is baffling though. Get the shields out, baton them and push them back.

Exactly right. Football fans, well nobody will care if an officer gets rough with a typical skin head thug. But if its women, young people, religious groups or whatever, the police stand back and we all know why. We arn't going to have people wanting to be police officers, we have a teacher shortage, and the rest because they can't do their job. And it's all because of the do gooders, actually causing more violence and chaos.

And they need to do a job on these thugs. It's even happening on our door step. "We will look to work with local partners to consider the most effective long-term solution.” Just baton the thugs, water cannon them, and get them home with a massive fine. The world has gone mad. These thugs are rubbing their hands together at how easy it is. Let's have another meeting and fill out some forms to decide what to do 🤔 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/19321557.amp/ [Post edited 22 May 2021 17:58]
