Based upon his previous honours and achievements with LFC I thought he was a good signing, until I watched him play for us. I’ve never heard a Saints player receive so much dog’s abuse from his own fans.
Personally I don’t recall too many accolades as described by Mark.

For all his rather different appearance particularly hair ( or lack of ) wise, Jimmy was a damn good footballer.
You don’t get a Division Two champions medal and a Division One champions medal with Liverpool unless you can play a bit. He got both in 61/62 and 63/64 respectively.
He was also a very important part of the team that finally got us promoted to the promised land of the top flight for the very first time in 65/66.
What he possessed was a wonderful footballing brain that enabled him to pick a pass beautifully.
If ever the expression “ Don’t judge a book by its cover “ applies, it most definitely was Jimmy.
In his prime, I’d have him in our current team as the first name on the team sheet, he really was that good. [Post edited 5 Feb 18:05]
