Southampton Set To Raid Chelsea Again 2nd Aug 2021 08:45
After the capture of Dynel Simeu from Chelsea last month, it seems that Saints have reached another agreement with the Stamford Bridge club for another of their promising youngsters who find their way blocked to the first team as the Blues return to a policy of buying expensively. 4

Just been reading that this is a real coup. Most of our young players from our academy haven't been good enough, so why not try a couple of sought after prospects from other clubs? A good idea when short of money. Let's hope these young players are cracking players and they break into the first team, all a for a cheap price.

Hardly a raid. There's a buy back clause so if he's any good he'll be straight back to them.

How does that work? They can buy him back for say 10 million, when he gets good?

Exactly that. Except the figure seems to be £20m. So effectively it's a loan with an immediate recall clause.

However, given the depth of their squad, it unlikely that he'll get into their squad in the next season so we should have him for at least a season and it won't tie up one of our permitted loan spots doing it this way which will help give how penniless we are.

I would say he’s pretty good considering Chelsea have a very strong academy and he was voted the best player in it last season .😬

Good signing, this makes a lot more sense than loaning Williams from utd for almost the same money.. even with the buy back clause

Chelsea also have a history of not using the buy back clauses e.g. Ake

How do you know that? Is there more information on the deal?

We already have an excellent right back in Walker- Peters, so are they going to start the season with Djenepo at left back, FFS?

What about our new French LB?

KWP - RB
Perraud - LB

New bloke to cover both?

Assume Djenepo would only play as a LWB if we are playing 3 CBs.

👍 thanks, I see it is everywhere now, £25m. If he is good enough to realise it, it will still be a good deal, as he looks like a low risk investment.

Yep. It's effectively a loan but we get the money from the sale if/when they want him back and it doesn't tie up a loan spot.
