There was that time when we had a movie star centre half partnership.
Harris n' Ford.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Bruton / May were the centre half pairing in my first Swans team. Great memories - loved that team.
Rajkovic is my all time favourite centre back, but agree with Sherpajacob about Irwin - though injury did cut his career short.
Remember signing Chopper from Reading and him having a nightmare debut for us against...yes, Reading! We got right royally thumped if memory serves me right. But he went on to forge a great partnership with Walker. Although it wasn't top flight, I'm plumping for these two.

John Ford ? Full back I thought ...,
Mostly, but he did fill in in the middle quite a bit too.

Fordy was one of my favourite players
Sh"t but always have 100%
He was OK. Had one very good season which pursuaded Bradford to pay £200,000 for him.
Not a bad investment from Frankie Burrows that. Him and Williams for £10,000 the pair. £460,000 back.

I've seen quite a few centre half pairings throughout the years watching the Swans. In my opinion, Mel Nurse was the best centre half I've seen, and this was at the end of his career when he came back to Swansea. Leeds v Swansea FA Cup 3rd Round 1970, stands out for me, my first away game! What a performance Mel put in, it took Leeds (Allan Clarke feigning injury) to get Mel sent off for them to win that game.
Mel and Ante, now that would have been some centre half pairing.

Ante is by far the best individually, but I never really rated Irwin.
Bound and walker were good at lower levels but not top flight material.
Melville oozed quality, which is why he was quickly snapped up and competed against the very best.
When watching Costa last month, I would have given anything to see him try to take on Ante on his prime. Only one winner.
Well said ... Ante is the best I have seen and the Ante/Colin pairing gets my vote, but Irwin was not always convincing. It would have been good to see Ante deal with guys like Costa.

Respect your take on it Paul. Ante was a no-nonsense and proper hard b'ard, for me. Commanding in the air and equally good on the deck. He was up against some decent forwards in the then top flight. I didn't see a better CH in Division One at that time. Like I didn't see a better forward than Curt. Great memories mate.
